WTF new FB privacy settings??

Fucking bullshit. You can't block people on your friends list anymore, and you can't stop friends of friends from trying to add you to their list. Also, your friends lists will be available for all to see if you leave your public search settings open to everyone. And your name and profile pic will always be available in a public search (I think, I may have misread that).

These are the EXACT things I liked having control over. Pretty pissed.

Posted by LKD on Dec-10-2009 15:08:

well why would you have someone on your list if you want to block them anyway?

my settings were pretty open before but now the whole profile pic in public search is a piss off

Do you share the same level of intimacy with everyone you know? No, you don't. I've never blocked anyone on my list, but I can see why others would want to.

No wonder all these ppl i dislike are trying to add me this morning ...

Posted by FunkyCrew on Dec-10-2009 15:20:

uuh what?

I don't see anything different, my privacy settings are still tight

Posted by cammaxwell on Dec-10-2009 15:27:

I took a quick peak at it yesterday and you had the option of leaving everything as is, so I don't think you're losing any setting at all...

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-10-2009 15:29:

No there's definitely a couple things that are different. It looks like everything's the same, but it isn't. Didn't any of you get the little message today when you logged in?

yea and it gave the option of "original setting"

EDIT: just logged out of FB and did a search for myself to see if the profile pic shows and yea it does...ugh

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-10-2009 15:38:

Yes I know that...but all of the original setting options aren't there/aren't the same. Make sure you go right into to your privacy settings too...because other shit was changed on mine as well that I had to change back.

Posted by kaniz on Dec-10-2009 15:38:

You can also do "Custom Settings", and then set "Only Friends", but add in a list of blocked people.

Posted by Coxx on Dec-10-2009 15:40:

new fb settings are fucked indeed i dont like how if someone does a public search
they can see your profile pic... facebook search results i have it set to friends of friends however
someone does a public search they wont be able to see my profile...

has anyone notice that the notifications are backwards plus you can't block ppl from seeing your status

Posted by 1dawoman on Dec-10-2009 15:42:

What's the rational behind making these changes? One of the things I actually liked about facebook was the option for being unsearchable...

Posted by Geoffb3 on Dec-10-2009 15:42:

FML this is going to take awhile to redo.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-10-2009 15:47:

It's the changes to the search visibility and friend addability that I'm not pleased with. Before the tightest search setting was to not be visible AT ALL, even from friends. Now the tightest setting is only friends.

And before you could have it set so NObody could add you/you had to add them if you wanted them on your list. Now the tightest setting for that is friends of friends.

The message said that they wanted to make it easier for friends to stay in touch with you or some fucking retarded bullshit.

Posted by LKD on Dec-10-2009 15:52:

I'm just pissed about the profile pic thing....can't put up a silly pic anymore in case some stupid recruiter looks you up on FB (damn double standards of companies)

Posted by Coxx on Dec-10-2009 15:57:

if you go to privacy settings contact information and add a friend
set it friends of friends so when someone does a public search
they can't add you only send you a msg

Posted by iLLnaDa on Dec-10-2009 16:00:

uh oh all those creepers are prolly having a fab time creepin yo asses hahaha

It really does only take a minute to do...but I don't appreciate the sneaky way they've gone about this. If you got the message from them, it gives you an option list to "keep old settings"...but only for certain things. So if you don't go back into your privacy settings by yourself, you won't see that there are still other settings left open.

Your absolutely right. Everyone I blocked from sketchy pictures that only a certain group of friends can see, was totally open for this morning. And friends that I had on limited profile weren't limited anymore. I agree, they can be friends, stay in touch and all, but there's no need for people like my older relatives and co-workers to know some of my extra curricular activities.
