Slacker - Start A New Life (LP)
Sample/buy it HERE (digital) or HERE (CD) (only ~$13.00!)
Slacker is dropping a bomb on us this February, his first LP...and it won't be proghouse (barring the rare exception perhaps) but everything downtempo.

| Slacker will issue his first full-length release in February. The Slacker project was originally a collaboration between Shem McCauley and Simon Rogers, with the pair releasing progressive house tracks on labels such as XL, Loaded and their own Jukebox In The Sky imprint. Now the moniker represents McCauley alone, and after a two year break in Thailand, he's back to the UK and ready to get back into the music scene. Instead of concentrating on the progressive house of his past, McCauley has instead decided to concentrate on crafting a full album in the vein of classic '90s works like The KLF's Chill Out and Future Sound Of London's Tales Of Ephidrina. "Stylistically, it might sound like a big change," explains McCauley, "but for me, its like expressing the stuff I was never previously able to." The resulting work is entitled Start w New Life, and is quite a diverse effort, encompassing beatless piano tracks ("I Have No Memory"), slo-mo funk ("Just As I Am"), skittering Arthur Russell-sampling breakbeat ("Come With Me") and lush choral electronica ("Help Me Here"). Tracklist 01. Start A New Life 02. I Have No Memory 03. When I Was A Child 04. Come Back Home 05. Just As I Am 06. Come With Me 07. Hymn To Her 08. See The World 09. A Million Dreams 10. Help Me Here 11. What A Dream I Had |
Holy cwap, looking forward to this!
I'll give it a listen. He was great with the prog sound of the 90's so hopefully he's just as gifted with the electronica sound.
Tasty!
Awesome.

slackerrr!
yeah!
I nearly forgot, his Myspace has 5 samples: http://www.myspace.com/slackershem (and apparently Ipoons has them available exclusively for now).
judging by the samples this is a definite buy
Very interesting.
Big Slacker fan so I'll definitely be looking into this.
Hmmm I wonder if McCauley can do it alone...
I have a few slacker titles that are complete fail. Being that this is downtempo I'm gonna at invest some sample time

Most of that is from the 90s.
To be fair, he put out a few lackluster numbers earlier in the decade. They were disappointing compared to much of what you listed. I apologize in advance for not being able to reference one at the moment but discogs.com holds the answer(s).
Yeh I figured as much, I never checked any out because I wouldnt have expected them to be that great
Still be interesting to see how this LP goes.
always loved this one - be interesting to see how the new stuff sounds

Did Slacker ever release "Goddamn Noise"? I can't find it on Discogs.

It took them nine years, then.
I wasn't expecting much but the samples sound pretty good - I'll probably grab this off of beatport or something.
