Dunno Real trance died?

I haven't listened to trance for about ten years. In that time, it seems like it has really gone downhill. It's not the same anymore. It has evolved, but not in a good way.

That's what I think right now, but maybe I'm wrong. You tell me.

In the 90s, trance had amazing melodies, and had the ability to be beautiful, entrancing, uplifting, psychedelic all at the same time without being cheesy. Here are two examples of what I'm talking about.

ADSR - Obsession

Quadran - Free Your Mind (Trance Mix)

It seems very different now...

Is that kind of trance still made today? I hope the answer is yes, but I'm not very optimistic that it will be.

If the answer is yes, please give me some names. I mostly like the harder, darker kind of trance, like those tracks above. They are good, don't you think? Why is it so hard to find that now?

Check out:

00.db (get the cd Heaven & Hell)
The Digital Blonde (All his stuff is great)
John 00 Fleming
Steve Birch

All harder darker trance stuff.

Listened to Steve Birch - Stargazing

Right now listening to Deep Eddie Zilker - I Love Mary Jane

This is good! Exactly what I was looking for. Do you have more recommendations?

Jesus! That's an old one of mine - like almost a year old. Meant to add more bass to the bass line but lost the source file.

I wrote it for my girl-friend - her name's actually Mary Jane

It's good anyways. You definitely know how to make a good song.

trance it's not an underground scene now worldwide, on some countries it's minoritary but there are 20.000 people trance events every week, something that didn't happen before until PvD and Tiesto appeared. Both of them are cheesy now , Tiesto it's not even producing trance and Armin van Buuren it's pop/trance mostly (his sets are cool at least )

Some producers you may like:

- Sean Tyas (Quality Euphoric/Uplifting Trance)
- Aly & Fila (Old productions mostly)
- W&W I think they're very good tech-trance producers although it's not like the old tech sound.

And for psytrance:

-Infected Mushroom (His last album "legend of the black sawharma or something like that it's pure shit, skip it)

-Vibe Tribe

-Electro Sun

What. He asked for dark hard trance and you post this, even after he mentions most stuff he has listened to sounds like it turned to shit? Can you read, or only write? And Infected Mushroom is an israeli trance DUO, two people(although many tour with them). And they have sucked for a long time now, basically since early 2000's.

i have listened to free your mind and none of the current producers produce like that so i could hardly recommend something that doesn't exists right now.

The darkest producers right now could be Simon Patterson maybe w&w and Markus Schulz on Coldharbour.

And i considered Infected Mushroom as a group i perfectly now that they're two teamed with the Korn singer often.

IF IM sucks... right now yes but i personally found Vicious Delicious decent and their older productions are amazing

Thats because you only listen to mainstream trans. Markus Schulz and Colharbour don't put out any dark sounding prog/trance anymore, its all pop fluffy crap. Also, I only said that about Infected Mushroom because you refereed to them as "His latest cd"

There is alot of trance like he posted still being made today, its just not being flaunted by trancecracker dj gods.

Yes, it's different now. But lol, that first one has vocals, some people here think real trance never had and shouldn't have vocals... ha ha ha.

Ehmm, serious, used to like that ADSR track also back in the 90's. Got it somewhere, but don't ask me where.
Personally think Reaky's stuff is pretty dark and hard (see recent threads with Reaky).

I like stuff like this which is uplifting too and maybe not what your are looking for. But maybe you do like it, to me this is still real trance:

Oceania - Never Forget (Arctic Moon Remix)

A.M.R.-As Time Goes By (original mix)

Corderoy - Kyrie

I do like the happy stuff too. It just has to be done right.

Infected Mushroom was good when they made The Gathering. Not so much now.

I also like goa more than modern psy. I guess I'm just jaded?

Becoming more popular doesn't have to mean giving up integrity.

Yes, it's mainstream and bad now, but there are always good things beneath the surface, aren't there? That is what I'm looking for...

Only if it's good.

But I did check your website and there is no music there. Just one promotional post on an empty forum.

If you like goa, check out this cd (2009):

Merr0w - Born Underwater. Intense, mildly dark, driving, and hectic.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Apr-14-2010 19:36:

Well this is my production

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA1tVY5jhRg

I tryed to make it different to what uplifting trance it's right now, i listen to mainstream trance surely not the commercial stuff though but the old sound was analog and now it's all about Logic or Reason Synths.

Yeah, I really didn't know this 'trance' fella all too well, to be honest, but I've heard only nice things about him. RIP, I guess.

Not bad, at all, but I'll bump your thread in DJ Promo.

Posted by floyd741 on Apr-15-2010 02:43:

Well I guess I'll do some self-promotion as well. Check this out: Horror and Moral Tyranny. It's got plenty of good trance and some other things like Acid Trax and Pioneers of the Warped Groove. I don't consider either to be real trance but they're close.
