how to listen to so much music on beatport
some genres have nearly 1000 tracks released per week. how do you guys manage your time for listening to new tunes? I have my go to artists and labels but i always feel like i will miss something. I feel a little overwhelmed sometimes. Thanks
Use your keyboard so you don't have to move your mouse back and forth.
I use my left hand on the down arrow to scroll through each song, then use my right to quickly cut to the middle of a track once it plays (keeping my cursor right at the top where the music player is). Saves lots of time.
i do the same thing actually and it does save alot of time....still tons of tracks and this is just beatport!
Probably need to change your approach.
I don't imagine that you sit at Wal-Mart waiting for the latest shipment of goods to come in, so that you can examine every single item to see if you want it or not.
i only listen to music on youtube, manage your subscriptions so you only listen good music, have a good eye to see who uploads always great music and subscribe to him

there is stuff on youtube that you cant even buy on beatport and instead have to find it for sale somewhere else like juno or djdownload. beatport has turned into like the walmart of dance music.
Who said anything about searching exclusively on Beatport?
Actually, I think Rodri has a great idea, if you omit the phrase "I only listen to music on".
agreed. especially in the last year or so. there's been some sort of "urban underground revival" going on in dance music where people specifically specify they do not want their music on beatport.
What I typically do is run beatport in the background all the time even when I am not particularly looking for anything. For example... I load up a really long BP playlist at work and let it play out and when I hear something interesting I go and check what track it is, otherwise if it sucks I just ignore it till something better comes on.
since youtube is the place where most music is hosted i don't see why it's a bad place to look at... like every massive network 90% it's useless but having a subscription to a channel it's nothing painful, if you want to discover new good tracks it's better starting from there than going to the "trance" category on beatport, because every time i've listened to the top 100 trance charts i've only found 3-4 tracks worthy.
And when i look at a dj tracklist and see a track that may be interesting i look it up on Youtube, 90% of the times it's there. And there are a bunch of really old tracks from the 90's or even older that you can only listen to there.

It's quite good too and it's unreleased.
But if you think rushing beatport it's more efficient do it, i won't.
Browsing live sets and their tracklists are a great way to find the more creme of the crop tunes I find esp if you find a DJ you like who's more consistant at finding the better tunes of your fav genre.

I'd also get to know your record labels a little. If you notice a lot of tracks you like are produced by the same labels, you can just add them to your favorites list and get updated on when they have new releases.
I look at tracklists from sets of DJs I like, I find labels that put out music I like, and check the classics and top 10s of genres every once in a while.
I'd say the most effective method to look for music on beatport is definitely find some labels that put out the music you like.. a lot of the time, especially with the smaller labels, the "sound" of most of the tracks are similar, making it easier to find stuff you like. I've got 10-15 labels that I really like and check out every few weeks for new tracks..
Youtube is for fags.
