behold the power of cheese.......

what is consedered cheese????????????
say u have a track that is mint, super sweet track, if it is played, pounded and trown in every mix for months and months, and everyone wants it and buys it, does it become cheese?????????????

Posted by djshorts on Jul-20-2002 04:56:

well when it comes out its great but when its on mtv and shit and they maybe add a vocal thats when it becomes cheese.

ie ian van dahl

castles in the sky great tune but because there so commercial no one wants to listen to em!

Posted by Arbiter on Jul-20-2002 05:23:

Only the most jaded people dislike a song because it becomes popular. True cheese is cheese because it has blatant pop influences in an overt attempt to appeal to the commercial market (i.e. castles in the sky). A track is either cheese before anyone knows what it is, or it is never cheese.

Cheers,

Arbiter.

dont get me wrong, i love cheese........................on my nachos

Posted by neovalkyr on Jul-20-2002 06:11:

lol i love the name of the tread. cheese is powerful IMO.

Posted by LordCrimson on Jul-20-2002 06:43:

ok, the next question to this is...once a tune comes out and is considered 'cheese' does that mean they are labeled as such on any future releases just from that one tune?

LC

P.S. i used to like the ian van dahl example, but i agree...it got overplayed (need to get rid of all the remixes i have..lol)

Looks like some people are using the term "cheese" just to prove
that they listen to that KEWL UNDERGR0UND sheit that everyone
should envy, that makes me sick.

No matter what you listen to there is something harder and darker
but as long as ppl dont listen to that eurosheit with that blue
guy that sings "Im blue daba-di-daba-da" everything is okay.

right on.
the whole cheese debate stems from elitists imo. True, there is commercial trance that has pop influences as aforementioned. However, I wish people would just listen to whatever the fuck makes them feel good, or what appeals to them, instead of worrying whether it's 'cheese' and not looking 'cool'.

Posted by dJohn on Jul-20-2002 07:54:

To me, cheese is the sound of the song. Commercialization accompanies it ALOT...but that's only because of the trendy sound it has, hence my point on the sound.
Blank and Jones 'The Nightfly' is a perfect example in my books. It doesn't get commercial MTV time, but it sounds fucking cheesy as hell, which is the reason why I don't like that song.
Most of ATB's stuff is cheese to me as well...it's so saccharine and boppy that it's hard to take seriously.

Posted by arjoderoon on Jul-20-2002 10:30:

and what about all those covers coming out? like aquagen - hard to say i'm sorry, that safri duo cover and there are many more covers from pop tracks from the 80's that were covered by "trance" producers
i think those are pure cheese... and only made for the money. it is an easy way to make mone cause that dont have to write that song. the only have to give it the trance sounds.

by this definition, doesn't that make pretty much every remix ever cheese ? If someone remixes a tune, ie Rank 1 - Awakening (FC remix), he doesn't write the song, just gives it the classic FC sound...

Posted by Verona^My on Jul-20-2002 17:05:

cheese, yeah sure, anything by Dumonde. that stuff just cheeses my ears. And a guy mentioned Eyal Barkan. Wow, that is cheese...

And some guy claiming his music is trance under the Chevornum name... Yikes, you need to smoke a lot of reefer to think that's trance.

Mint tracks are MINT!.....good tracks then commercial radio takes over and hammers the 4 min edit of the track and then it becomes cheese.

Posted by ricky on Jul-20-2002 18:23:

Then again some tracks are not played very much but still as cheesy as your momma's macoroni and cheese:

Mauro Picotto - Like This Like That
(By far the epitomy of cheese)

Posted by kr00t0n on Jul-20-2002 22:13:

I dont believe that a song can BECOME cheese.
If it gets overplayed, then hell, its been overplayed.
That doesnt make it cheese.

Cheese is a sound to me, like:

Ian van Dahl's originals (I like the remixes)
Anything by Lasgo
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun *prepares for flames*

These tracks all possess qualities that annoy me.
IvD has such boring and uninspired sample usage.
Lasgo just totally suck with crappy samples and shyte vocals.
Southern Sun's vocals just make me want to run in front of a bus.

hahaha

funny because it's true.

Posted by Blue. on Jul-21-2002 23:18:

Iio - Rapture was good and so is Sound Of Goodbye although they are playing that now and it will kill the classic .

first off... lol that running in front of the bus line is hella funny...
Second, when i think of cheese... the only way i can describe it... is when u hear a song and its just giving it all its got.. then just picture some hero breaking out to save the world and fight all evil... NO, the hero isnt a savage beast like russell crowe, its actually a big, blond haired, blue eyed, smiley ass prince from a god damn disney movie.

He pops out to save the world and ur just like WTF? Where is russell crow!?

Thats exactally how i feel about cheese.... a lot of it starts off alright, but when the song is over its just like.. Come on give me a break, what was all that crap about?!

Good example (just my personal view, not a fact or anything) of cheese/uncheese would be ian van dahl - will i that is so cheesey u could spray it on a cracker. Then listen to the flutlicht mix of that song, i Love the flutlicht mix of it.
Freakin great song.

but just cause something is cheese doesnt make it bad all the time. if you like a song then like the song, just cause its cheese dont mean anything... if u feel its cheese, then give it to the rats.

This reminds me of a party i went to last night where BT spun and some other people like deepsky... PeoPLE were dancing their arses off...the thing i loved the most was watching people who had NO idea how to dance, dance their hearts out... its so natural and just a person exploding... doing what they like.....Same thing with cheese...so what if its cheese? if u like it, go eat it up.

Posted by Cobalt on Jul-22-2002 01:01:

I hate it when people diss Southern Sun!!!

Some people actually don't like it, but the vast majority are just part of the 'cool' anti-hype group surrounding the track. If Oakie hadn't killed the thing by pumping up its release for months, we would be hailing it as the incredible tune it is.

Posted by Flec on Jul-22-2002 03:10:

i was about to give my 2 cents about cheese and then i realized im really to tired and lazy to give a damn about letting u all know my opinion :P

Posted by BenTech on Jul-22-2002 04:11:

cheese is ok

I like some cheesey songs

but just don't fool yourself into thinking that its great trance music cause it ain't

but that doesn't mean its not ok to listen to it

well its a little bit of too much play and just straight lame tracks...
when darude - sandstorm came out, it was alright but then it got on the radio and everyone started playing it.....then you just get sick of it and it gets lame
now straight lame cheese tracks like dj alligator - blow my whistle...dude...........i dont even wanna get started on that one

Posted by bluejay on Jul-22-2002 15:41:

god people, like a FEW of you said...cheese is not because it gets more playing time...

I agree. It doesn't matter because a song such as Perpetuous Dreamer - Sound Of Goodbye is an amazing tune and many people think of it as a classic but they are overplaying it on the radio now, does this make it cheese? Nope and if you throw away this decent tune because you think it's now cheese then you're a dumbass.
