Anyone here into rally cars?

Ok well I basically know shit about rally, just which companys make the good ones....ive always liked rallys but never really got into them really until the past couple days when i drove my bros, wifes honda civic 4wd on some off road places, anyways Im gonna start saving for a nice rally car and I was wondering if anyone here is really into them at all.....I was probably looking into a subaru, but whatever, I want one because NO ONE here has a rally car, just a bunch of rice rockets and trucks so thats one of the reasons I want one besides them being fun, fast etc...

impreza wrx sti is coming soon...

evolution vii or viii to be released in january 2003...if you live in san jose...the capitol mitsubishi's reserve list is very short and they are getting like 8 of them

Yeah, I love those Subaru Impreza WRX STi's...I just saw one at the local car show near me...took alot of pics of it. They also had the real rally car there. If I would ever get one I'd get the exact same decals that the rally car has.

The people were nice as hell and gave me a Impreza WRX hat and poster

go for the evo 7.....if and i emphasize the if part, if you can afford it...but fuckin nice to drive, all the power and cornering is absolute superb...i drove the evo 6 which is a bit lighter but nonetheless both the evo 6 and 7 are very similar...if u can't afford it, guess its gonna be the imprezza wrx...if not buy a car which has 4wd and put a bolt on turbo

Posted by TranceAllstar on Jul-22-2002 05:25:

yea it sucks im only 16 right now, I have a car its nice Sterling 825SL, but i want a rally , i still need to fucking take behind the wheel, sad i know. Anyways Im gonna start saving now I have about 1000 but im getting a new comp and after that its just saving, i need a job too haha...Im looking to put in about 10k so most of the newer cars are way off my budget shouldnt take that long if i just get a job and save save save, that and my sterling will probably get about 3-4k

Posted by kolkiewolkie on Jul-22-2002 08:59:

you are 16 and want a rallycar????

well, you REALLY must have good control on your right foot then... else you WILL wreck yourself because rallycars are FAST

dunno in the states, but here in holland you definately have to bring AT LEAST $38.000 to get urself a evo VI (used) or 50.000 dollar to get a new mitsubishi evo VII... personally I like the looks of the evo VI more..

impreza rock the world too, but over here it is plain impossible to get it insured below your 24th year

but rallycars.. subarus do it well, and a couple years ago toyota's we're used for rallys ALOT here in europe.. think about all the celica models

other models that are used alot in rally over here are (I think) not available in the states (usually smaller cars, low weight etc.)

in holland this year a new rallycup started with the focus, so I guess that should be a solid base too, allthough you wouldn't say it with it looks...

//going to look for some pics (edit: site doesn't support linking, so I made links.. hopefully that works (let me know)

latest impreza:

I totally dig rally! it heavely rox... better than formula one IMO... soon there's a rally in my backyard! oh yeah, there are so called WRC (world rally cars) but they are not available for normal people AND cost a fortune (some where between 100.000 and 200.000 dollar!!)

o yeah, this is what rally is supposed to be :

and on tarmac this is what it is now :

sorry, but couldn't find a decent pic of a celica, but they are REALLY usefull for your kind of purpose (look out for the 4wd ofcourse )

only one pic works and thats the top one.....anyways yea im only 16, i know how to drive tho, anyways i wanna start saving soon and get about 10k and get something then hop it up from their....but i love the subarus, they are like all really exspensive though....dunno what else would be in my budget....

I have an ex rallye car

Colin McRae won Subaru's first ever WRC rallye with it, although mine doesn't have the 280hp turbo engine

Posted by Surreal1221 on Jul-23-2002 07:11:

damn ricers using the term 'rally cars' sigh

They are 4WD vehicles. 4WD. . . not rally cars. let move away from talking like ricers now.

dude, since I take it you meant this seriously: you are wrong!
and you didn't look on the pictures (the NOT-supported pictures).. because it is an civic shuttle (like midi-mpv)... and that one was most definately available with FOURwheeldrive

normal civics indeed weren't

Posted by Kia Kaha on Jul-23-2002 11:24:

I nearly got squashed by a rally car when I was a kid ... one of the stages of the Rally of New Zealand used to go right past our front door on the farm where I grew up, and me and my little sister used to sit out by the farm driveway and watch all the cars go past. Anyway one year this Scandinavian dude lost control right as he was coming round the corner in front of where we were sitting, and his car went right up the bank and into the air and landed on its roof about 4 feet away from where I was sitting ... man it was so freaky ... my mum came and gave us both a good paddling, for sitting on the outside of the corner right where she told us not to sit

yeah its the best car i've driven so far.....didn't drive it hard because only test drive from dealers, but the acceleration is so strong and the cornering from the 4wd, it makes you drool...but most powerful is when you get down to the freeway and you put your foot down...oh my god, too bad dealer was there as i would have thrashed the fuck out of the car

ahhh man...can't wait till i get to test drive one.. btw outside of the states, do you guys refer to these cars as full time 4wd, 4wd, or all wheel drive? because here 4wd and awd are completely different drivetrain systems

<-ricey max boost graphics?
indeed!

Are you talking about wanting just a 4x4 car that they base the rally cars on, or a proper rally car - multipoint cage, plumbed in fire extinguisher, kill switches etc?

If you *do* want a proper racecar to drive around in the novelty soon wears off I can tell you... No carpet or interior trim so it's as loud as hell, a pain to get in and out of, stepping over door bars and belting up 6 points etc.

You'd better have good roads too, cos 35/40 profile tyres and 400lbs springs make it a bit bumpy!
