Hackers - Wtf
Ok, let me ask you guys this, for those of you who may know.
Is it possible for someone to upload to you a virus. If so, how can this be done, and what ability does the person have to have to be able to simply infect you that easily?
I was just threatened by some kid, saying I have one more hour to go b4 I should start looking for a new PC...fuckin people nowaday
Anyhow, please let me know any details you guys know as I don't know shit about this sort of thing. I have ZONEALARM up at all times also...
There are some programs that I make available to the interenet to act as a server...one of those happends to be program that runs this game for online gaming...I'm assuming if anything that could be his way into my comp?
Don't mind me, I'm just very protective of what I have, and need to know anything I can here.
Input would be nice.
Thnx.
Cheers,

If you have a firewall set up, you should be fine.
But yes, people can upload files to you.
never DL a .exe file unless it comes from either a big corporation or a good friend. People can code self-activating trojans and stuff. They should use their programming talents on good uses.
Right, but outside of accepting a executable file, how likely is it someone has the ability to upload something to you through a open port? As in, if I'm not doing anything other then being connected to the interenet.

remember to turn off windows file sharing or use a strong password for your hard drive shares because i remember there was this one day where i opened up my computer and i saw that i had a share open to some guy's ip, a share that i didn't connected myself, that appeared out of nowhere.
i opened it up and went through all his files just as easily as i could go through my own hard drive...didn't change anything though, i disconnected the share and pulled my ethernet cable out all paranoid
Ok, how do I manipulate my file sharing?
Please fill me in.

Ok, it looks like i've cleared up what you stated.
There are two options to either check or uncheck, one is allowing others to access your computer files, and the other to allow access for someone to print to your printer....correct?
Both those boxes are unchecked so I'm assuming i'm protected from that aspect?

I wouldn't worry man. There is no way to infect your machine with a virus unless you execute it (ie, click on a .exe file or view a .jpg)
Just make sure Zonealarm is configured properly (nice and secure) and then don't be worried.
yeah leave them both unchecked. if you dont use file sharing...just remove it all the way
I agree with the others, youre ok as long as u got firewall protection.
Most ppl who make threats often pretended to be hackers to scare you. A real hacker wouldn't warn you, he would just do it.
Its more likely some will break into you online email account and if you use the same password and username for other online services, they break into those and cause you a headache by stealing your identity and causing all sorts of mischief.
So, its best avoid making enemies, cause you never know.
tell him if he hacks your computer you'll shove it in his asshole.
yea say that you have viruses shoved up your tight butthole daily so infect away

Yea, best bet is not to get into any sort of conflict in the first place. However, that may not always be an option as some people are shitheads no matter what...
Either way, I dont open up anything thats an .exe, even from friends...
for this reason; there have been numerous times where a vuris will take over someones email accout and maliciously send itself out to that persons entire email list...smart visuses*
Anyhow, I think I'm all set, I had his IP banned from the place where he started all this nonsense, I have a feeling he's pissed, hope he doesnt know whats up, and he's all talk
An yea, I agree with you igottaknow, he would likely have went ahead and done it rather then talk it...right?

Ok, this guy is attacking me right now.
I can see him trying to access my computer 10 times in the last 20 minutes. What a little fuck, like he has nothing better to do

log his IP, do a WHOIS on his IP and report it to his ISP. if he is a moron and used a static IP, then they will track him down and kick him off the internet.
Also, I would ban the whole IP range so that if he is using a non-static IP address, then you will still have him banned.

i'm pretty sure this is not your case, but in case of, here's a little tip in addition of all said from others:
if you are on winnt or win2k, check if IIS is installed and running. If yes, shut down that shit now.

Oh shit! Yeah good point about the IIS dealy in win 2k. MASSIVE SECURITY HOLE!!!
Seriously, you should always run windows update. That exploit has been fixed but if you haven't patched it, it is a potential weakness.
Someone tried to hack me right now..
You were last attacked on: 26.07.2002 20:43:52

Recent attempted hackers: 1
Most frequent attacker: 217.129.142.229
Hacker was using TransScout trojan.
Mohahah, nice to be firewalled...
Just scan his IP using Norton now, and I can find out where he's located.
