Got a spare $5,000? ...Voyager XL

I've been watching the thread over on gearslutz about this synth since last week. A $5K monosynth in this economy doesn't seem like a very smart business move. Seems like Moog would be smarter to follow in DSI's footsteps and make more smaller and more affordable versions of their synths. Oh well, regardless of how well this synth sells now, it will undoubtedly be selling for $40K on eBay twenty years from now, so maybe I'll buy one and store it away.

$5000 is a lot but you get it with a cute cat.

you would think they would make the patch bay digital. Seems a little too nostalgic and gimmicky.

You it really doesn't matter. There are 500 people out there who will shell out for this just because they have to have it. that's $250,000 without even having to market it apart from just announcing "it's here".

When we launched the normal voyager in the UK at an event with Bob, we sold out (40) of them in less than an hour, and they couldn't even demo it there.

It also doesn't cost them a huge amount to do a new version - all the technology is the same, it's really a new chassis and small CV patchbay which is not the expensive bit.

ugliest synth ever. wouldnt keep it if i got it for free. analog synths are ridiculous today imo.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-13-2010 22:34:

I don't like keyboard synths as the keyboard is always rather cheap. I am much more a fan of rack synths if you have to have hardware. I suppose perhaps this will be a big seller for all those hipster indie electro pop bands playing live although for some reason , I see them spending the money on ugly clothing and settling for the cheapest korg synth on the market.

I kinda really want one of these, actually. I've had a high res image of one as my desktop background since it as announced last week. I think it would just be SO MUCH fun having a moog with a nice big keyboard like that and the modular capabilities. It's really a piece of synth gluttony.

Exactly what I've been thinking for at least a year now but they have yet to comply. A rackable Little Phatty would be pretty awesome, especially if they could be poly chained. Or, even better, come out with a tiny unit the size of a mooger-fooger for, say, $500, that has a nice moog filter, two envelopes, a bit of modulation, and a single osc. Basically a modern-day micro moog without the keyboard. GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY HERE, MOOG.

Maybe if bob wasn't dead they would release synths as fast as DSI....

Actually, the LFO (Lazy Feline Option) costs $500 more.

I once saw 4 black guys rape a white girl on her prom night. I laughed but I wouldn't say it was funny. Actually it was pretty funny.

Can't route external signals into a digital patchbay.

Yeah, that works for DSI because they have a lot of features on their high end synths that they can cut out and strip back for the budget synths. What extra features does a moog have? If they took features you'd be left without an oscillator

I think if moog were smart they'd get back into cheap and modular gear. If your not going to do polysynths you have to do modular IMO, there's growing interest in that market.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-14-2010 10:32:

sure they can. Just have the inputs and then have that patchable as well via digital. They are just being lazy. Haven't you ever seen a patch bay on a big console ? Totally customizable without having to move cables.

No you didn't.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-14-2010 10:44:

no I really did laugh. She wasn't a very nice person and something about 4 black guys made it racially charged thus quite funny. I used to think rape was only funny when it happened to a clown. Not anymore.

Posted by kitphillips on Sep-14-2010 11:20:

^^^ Offensive IMO. About as unfunny as you can get.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-14-2010 11:24:

I laughed. Perhaps you should dislodge what ever it is that seems to have creeped up your anus.

Posted by Fledz on Sep-14-2010 12:08:

No you didn't. You didn't witness it and you didn't laugh. Stop being such a try hard.

Also, just in case you didn't get it here's a translation:
Nobody believes you.
Nothing you say will make anyone believe you.
You're full of shit.
You're also an idiot.
