MOVIES - 2011 Edition

We had a movies thread where people talked about movies they have recently gone to see, rented or are excited for. It was getting pretty long, and hasn't been resurrected for awhile, so I thought I'd start a new one.

I'll start:

The Loft:
Ian and I rented this movie a lil while ago. Unfortunately the trailer probably won't help much b/c it's a foreign film, and there's no subtitles in the trailer. I posted the synopsis though. REALLY great movie.

Synopsis - 5 friends who are all married and know each other very well decide to rent a loft together. In this loft they meet their mistresses. Everything is OK until one morning the body of an unknown young woman is found in the loft. The 5 friends begin to suspect each other of murder. And it becomes clear that they don't know each other as good as they always thought.

The Last Exorcism:
I was really stoked for this movie after seeing the trailer, as it seemed like it had the potential to be the next great exorcist movie since The Exorcist was re-released. I was a bit doubtful though b/c Eli Roth has disappointed me in the past with good ideas, but not great execution. I was happy with the outcome of this movie, however I wish I knew it was handy cam. I HATE handy cam movies - I have ot close my eyes through past of it b/c it makes me sick to my stomach. This was one of the better handy cam movies I've seen, with not a lot of juggling around, though some part were tough.

Devil:
I didn't really have high expectations for this, but my friend wanted to see it so I did. It was entertaining, but I would definitely not recommend it to anyone. Acting was definitely meh. I really liked the way they did the opening credits though.

Machete:
Was very excited to see this, only to be incredibly disappointed when it wasn't in theatres anymore in Windsor after only 2 weeks!

Machete was AWESOME in the old school B movie way...

I heard the Exorcism was brutally bad and the same with Devil which sucks 'cause I really wanted to go see them...

I wanted to see Machete aussi!

HappyHappy

I CANT WAIT TO SEE:

LET ME IN

Based on teh Sweedish movie LET THE RIGTH ONE IN, it's an American remaking of it directed by Matt Reeves.

The movie is based on the book of the same name (Let the Right One In) by swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist.

I havent read the book yet (been on my list for abt a year and a half now), but hope to by the end of October. It's next after I finally finish reading Anthony & Cleopatra.

Its essentially more of a Stephen King, horror-esque take on a story that involves a vampire. Very dark and creepier and intense. (Note: it originally came out in 2004 in Sweden, so it predates Twlight, lol)

I saw that trailer yesterday.

Its practically another "War of The Worlds"

What Dan Rather said was quite funny though. Plus at one point, I heard a similar sound that was used in Transformers, which completely threw me off.

It'll be interesting to see how this movie pans out. There's already talk of a sequel due to responses been so positive about this one.

If I may add... can't a move come out where the humans DON'T WIN for once? I mean think about it. Another species come and wipes us out... no heroics to save the day !!!!!!!!!!!!!

+1

Inception was amazing.
Despicable Me was great.
Alice in Wonderland was good.
Get Him to The Greek was a great comedy.
Takers was quite good.

I just can not wait for Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D. I've been bugging Cineplex/IMAX for over two months to put the tickets on sale already. There better be a midnight showing!

Check your local listings. I'm not sure if it's still playing elsewhere - but I have a feeling it was pulled everywhere.

Also looking forward to Hobo with a Shotgun coming out lol. I hope they make all of the "fake trailers" into movies that were at the beginning of Grindhouse.

We always win over species that have vastly superior technology in movies... fuck that. You know in real life situation we'd probably get our asses kicked. No one would know that humans ever existed.
