Ziptnf - Warp Drive [psydnb]

I couldn't wait till after my final exams to make this. Psychedelic Drum and Bass is a very rare "genre", as most psybreaks aren't quite aggressive enough to be classified DnB. Each one of these tracks are very unique, and as a result, different speeds. The tracks didn't lend themselves to much blending, so for the mixing I tried to make the energy transfer as unobtrusive as possible. You will explore a variety of psychedelic drum'n'bass interpretations, pushing the boundaries of this sound towards the end. I hope you all enjoy, this took a while to put together.

Vector Burn - Orchid (Mav Remix)
Deimos - Chest Pain
Violet Vision - Inside the Glass Shell
Silexz - Pandemonium
Scorb - P2P
Phace - Vintage
Principles of Flight - A Colorful End
Cybernetika - Hydroponics
Cybernetika - Vaporized
Tone Deaf Junkies - Noxious
Shift - U Can't Say
sLime - The mould
Psilodump - The Kung Fu Fish Eats The Buns
The Flashbulb - Lawn Wake IV (Black)

down like a clown

Thanks guys. A few of the transitions may be questionable, but just ignore them

Will I like this, based on what you've heard from me?

This question always perplexes me. Its certainly different then what you're used to but doubtfully inaccessible. I say try it, why skip out on something new that you've never heard before? Decide for yourself whether or not you like it!

Posted by Ian on Dec-04-2010 22:08:

wasn't sure if you'd be like 'yeah, that's not too far fetched from what you've played'

Stuck on whether to do my next mix or wait. There's a lot of goodies I can't get hold of yet that I want to use, but if I wait, I could wait months. This scene sucks

Not sure if it counts btw, since I have no idea what psydnb 'is' but I have been known to start a normal d&b set with this

And I like track 1

Nobody really knows what it 'is', since there are literally hundreds of different interpretations. But this mix is my interpretation, and hearing that track you posted makes me think you will find it at least somewhat interesting

Posted by Ian on Dec-04-2010 23:13:

track 1 was awesome

Love some of the fast transitions, sometimes they harm a mix but when you're dealing with such a variety of tempos as you are here, they work ok.

track at 48 minutes is awesome fun. I'm enjoying this set for sure, it's something I can't even bring myself to stop listening to to go piss, because I have no idea what sort of wacky shit is coming next.

55 minutes on. what a fucking trippy tune. Love it.

63 minutes too. that's weird as fuck, yet intriguing all the same.

I'm always interested in finding unusual tracks to spice up my sets. I'm looking forward to some fresh ideas of yours...

Looks interesting

Posted by ziptnf on Dec-05-2010 13:20:

Thanks for listening, Ian! I'm glad it kept you on the edge of your seat I'm also glad the mixing didn't bother you, I was afraid that the short cuts and full volume insta-transitions would turn you off. I thought this set was really fun to make.

Hope everyone else likes it!

I think that the way you've mixed it is exactly why it is so good. You've got a tricky set of tunes that you've managed to mould together & it's by doing it that way. I don't think you could've tried layering them for a long time without it sounding silly in places, so whilst it isn't the smoothest set ever posted, it does work and is proof imo that you can do something that wouldn't sound right with certain tunes and make it flow.

OH HELL FUCKING YEAH!!

Posted by Domesticated on Dec-06-2010 13:37:

Very interesting. I didn't like every track, but there was certainly some great ones here. It was nice to hear something really different, at any rate. I liked the big symphonic break in the middle, that was very well timed.

The last track was a nice exercise for me, too. I have a couple of Squarepusher and Venetian Snares albums, but I find I'm not always in the right headspace for them. Today was definitely one of those days. However, you worked up to the last bit really nicely and gave the last track a lot more context. I find that's the mark of a good DJ - they can make a things work by building the right mood prior.

The mixing wasn't your best, but I was surprised how well you managed to do without beatmatching. Most of them were actually pretty good.

Posted by ziptnf on Dec-06-2010 14:40:

Thanks, Domesticated. I knew there would be a couple tracks sprinkled in here that didn't do it for some people, but that's to be expected. Venetian Snares was actually a contender for this mix, but Psilodump beat him out with that crazy track off the second half of the Nya Albumet. This was ridiculously hard to mix, as it was difficult to tell when to keep the energy blasting and when to let it build back up again. Glad you listened!

Posted by montana on Dec-09-2010 15:51:

it was very nice. tracks were nice, mixing was as good as it could have been. those tracks at the end were immense

Posted by Magadansky on Dec-09-2010 17:25:

I have kinda mixed feelings about this. DnB is usually a party style for me, I cant just listen to it at home but this is what I did now. Half of these tracks were quite good and enjoyable but the rest were not really my cup of tea especially those glitchy ones and the ending ones. Mixing was ok for a dnb set, no complaints there.

Posted by ziptnf on Dec-09-2010 17:38:

Thanks for listening, guys. Glad you liked it, Tony.

Sorry the whole thing didn't do it for you, Mag, the tracks were slim picking. It took me well over a year to compile this, and even then, not all the tracks might have been right. It doesn't surprise me that the end wasn't your deal either, but I had to have it like that When are you gonna release a new set, buddy?

Posted by KilldaDJ on Dec-10-2010 09:55:

all over this like flies on shit too.

Posted by djnitride on Dec-10-2010 15:53:

Very nice, its hard to find any good psybreaks / psydnb.

The Cybernetika album last year was awesome.

Good stuff, downloading
