I lost over 500 songs once due to a virus. And maybe 1000 due to a worm. I was deleting files because they were hidden and after I found out I unhided like 20 songs out of all of them so that was too late. Just think of it like starting from scratch. And forget about the past...

Dunno what happened I was listening music outside when I came back in my house I went to search for some track and all what I see is that all my mp3z turned into folders with chinese signs or whatever it fucking is ...like this

~░ʼm"│.hk ----> every mp3 is named like this and became a map, omg....

sigh....2000+ track gone in one fucking moment...im really sick of it.

(shaking head) I can't feel sorry for ya......

With todays convenient and fairly cheap storage utilities, you shoulda backed it up.

Some people just don't learn till it actually happens........

You know what? CD-Rs don't crash/get infected

Posted by Asperge on Aug-04-2002 14:35:

that's why I have about 75 cd's of mp3's

but that's damn shitty!!!

was it a virus or something?

Posted by THE_Chris on Aug-04-2002 14:35:

Have you tried going into DOS and renaming the extension to .mp3??? Could it be as simple as that??

Dont lose all hope just yet.... perhaps the virus left traces of the files. If you have a disk restore program it might be able to get them back.

Posted by netw3rkd on Aug-04-2002 14:41:

only 12 gigs? i could redownload 12 gigs in about 2 days

Posted by HomeFry on Aug-04-2002 14:42:

yeah, you should think about partition magic and other file utilities that will allow you to restore and/or undelete files...

I acidentally FORMATTED (not quick either) the wrong drive... 30 Gigs gone... and with partition magic, i got 95% of them back... the only reason I didn't get 100% back was because i played with the drive myself before using the utility and therefore wrote over some of the deleted files...

Just stfu man if u dont have anything better to say....

Posted by netw3rkd on Aug-04-2002 14:53:

you can also just create a .bat file and have it rename all the files back to .mp3

Posted by THE_Chris on Aug-04-2002 14:55:

I'd bet also that if it was a virus, it just renamed/modified the files in the Windows File Allocation Tables, which would mean the files are still there.

I remember once I had a virus that changed all my MP3's to .inf files. I renamed them back to .mp3 and they all worked again.

Try renaming just a few of them back. Its worth a try.

That is why God created CD-R

Do you know what kind of virus did this??

If you have a virus scanner, do a scan to find out what virus you have, then go to the Synematic (spelling?) website and download a fix for it. Those fixes can sometimes recover damaged files for you.
