CA doesn't want any more raves
Anti-Raves Act of 2011 Introduced in California Assembly
California State Assembywoman Fiona Ma (D- San Francisco) has introduced a bill that would ban raves on public properties, and severely restrict events in private facilities. The move comes months after the death of a 15-year old girl at Los Angeles annual Electric Daisy Carnival due to an ecstasy overdose. Two death at another electronic music event at San Franciscos Cow Palace were also cited. The bill makes it illegal to hold an event containing more than 3 1/2 hours of pre-recorded music during the course of a night, with fines up to $10,000 or twice the actual or estimated gross receipts for the event, whichever is greater.
Raves are a state-wide problem and require a state-wide approach, Ma said in a statement. Its time that the legislature says enough is enough and provide law enforcement with the tools to shut down events that have displayed a pattern of fostering youth drug use.
The move comes after the City and County of Los Angeles lifted the temporary ban on booking rave events at the Coliseum following the post-EDC outcry. The Coliseum Commision (sic) pointed to the improved safety situation at raves following Electric Daisy Carnival, and the measures enacted by the Los Angeles County Rave Taskforce (sic) as due dilligence (sic) to lift the ban.

Kind of ironic since alcohol is probably (I'm still trying to find statistics on it) more costly in terms of lives and medical care than MDMA is.
inb4the17sss-spots it's a Democrat sponsoring the bill.
Just ban 'Go Ventures'.
Problem= SOLVED.
Good, it's about time they became interesting again!
i can understand why, i spent this last week here in LA and Bas came to meet me with candy raver beads on then proceeded to ask me for free clothes.

I'm more surprised that this was sponsored from a politician from SF. They don't get much liberal than that.
I'd like to see the fatality stats from other music events of similar size and to what cause those deaths are attributed.

the legislation is a little late considering raves were in vogue 10 year ago.
Tell that to the promoters of massive raves in LA who are grabbing cash hand over fist.

That's just hell,
why don't they just ban music with electric guitars? There's more speed and nasty drugs at those sortof events.
I really, really, really fucking hate that EDM equals excessive drug taking. You do know this is kind of the reason Armin "invented" #trancefamily, that the fans are there for the music, not the drugs.
P.S. I think you might wanna watch this video about video game violence:
Just replace video games with trance music and EDM in the context.
The culprit here is clearly the little teenage shit.

People actually call them "raves" still?

True, but it's also all night one offs with music by DJs, so aside from the nostalgia how is it different?
