Be Cool! TXTA Random Talking Thread

We need at least one non-event thread on here.

To start, does anybody know of a good place to buy wine? The only big place I know of is Spec's, but they're a little lacking in the rarer stuff (about the only thing they don't have). Houston preferred but, like I mentioned, I'm looking for pretty specific stuff, so anywhere is helpful.

Too early for a pity-bump?

No, so long as you have an answer for me. I want some good wine, dammit! I'd just order it, but, somehow, I doubt that Fedex gives a shit about sediment.

If it weren't illegal for me to ship alcohol to the USA, I'd send you some from here. Australia has some awesome wines.

I've never tried any, though I've heard good things. Aren't you guys better at whites, though?

Never tried AU wines?

Australia makes excellent whites AND reds. Top class, I'm not kidding.

I must say though, that for the whites, New Zealand probably does better than us. Or they used to, anyway. There are also some EXCELLENT South African whites. I'm not too good with S.A. reds though, I haven't tried many of them.

Whites ftl.

I'm on a Bordeaux kick. I still have about 50,000 of them to work through before I get to Australia.

Fair enough. You'd enjoy your whites more if you lived in a warm climate for most of the year

Edit: Although, isn't TX hot as shit, mostly?

Not dry heat though like Nevada but it is nice and extra warm, it barley even freezes in my city. Up in the Panhandle it's a different story though.

Wish I could recommend some win but I don't drink it.

Do you prefer white or red wine?

Posted by Sushipunk on Feb-01-2011 22:02:

I like both, really. Depends on the situation.

Stu, you're not from Texas. How could I send you wine if I do some research on it and find a good one?

Posted by civicstyle on Feb-01-2011 22:16:

Where oh where did the TXTA's go?

definitely red. I just don't see the point of spending good money on white. So boring.

I have a friend that works at a wine bar, I haven't talked to her in awhile and I think the winebar closed down but she would know a good red wine. I'll see if I can find her on facebook for ya.

I know the stuff I want (rare, classic french Bordeaux...specific ones). I just don't know anywhere around here to get them.

I just got ahold of one of her friends via facebook, maybe he knows were to get what you're looking for, he is a major wine drinker also.

I'm looking for a '95 Ducru. That's the next one on my list.

Ok, I will ask. Haven't talked to them in awhile so they need to accept my friend request.
