Weekly Techno roundup for the weekend

Hopefully this weekly thread helps other techno heads who may be wondering whats happening this weeknd and what to expect of some djs you may have never heard of. Anyway any recommendations for some good techno this weekend? I know Josh Wink is not hard techno but I am considering checking him if there is no techno worth checking. To all the others who have responded in the past- thanks for the suggestions.

Do you really need to ask whats going on every weekend?

Theres an event section and a party planner ya know....

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-01-2011 16:32:

didnt think it would be a problem- mainly to get opinions from people who may have actually heard of djs who I(or others reading this post) may not have heard- also to maybe get some discussions going. If you disagree then close it.

Posted by euphoria on Feb-01-2011 16:46:

The way it appears, well to me anyway is....

I don't trust my taste in music enough to make up my own mind so TA please make the decision for me and tell me where I should go lol

If you want to start a discussion... for example... say about Josh Wink. Why not post in the event thread? If there is no event thread be helpful and create one.

If it was once in a while, then fine but its becoming an event weekend thing. If thats the case make a "Tell Taurus where to go this weekend" thread and keep it all in once place please.

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-01-2011 17:18:

Well you are sort of correct that when I post a topic such as this one it is because I dont trust my knowledge (not taste since I know I like techno) in certain djs. So I am trying to pick the brains of people on here who may have prior knowledge of the DJ's and in some cases of myself- since I know some members here who are familiar with my taste in music and have actually recommended some good nights for me based on knowing me through past posts.
That being said I thought it would be more time efficient to post a topic like thi rather then going to each event I have i question and asking people what kind of dj's these people are. I have no problme posting a thread like "tell taurus where to go " if that is more acceptable- just tell me which forum that would be better suited. Also, in the past similar posts have gotten responses so I thought thats a good thing since it keeps people active on the forum. I dont really see the problem- but let m know what is preferred.

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-01-2011 18:23:

haha euphoria beat me to it...yea this weekly thread is beginning to get out of control..i see where you are coming from to get other peoples opinion about a dj that you may not be familiar with. thats cool and i dont mind sharing my personal opinion. but than again, thats my personal opinion which may be different from the way you see it in opposition to everyone else, as well.

you are being lazy; the best way you can learn about the dj is simply by researching the dj on your own...his productions as well as some gigs his been at recently to get a sense of what to expect. and from there you can make a more solid comfortable conclusion about how to spend your night.

like i said, i dont mind telling you how to guide you through the weekend (also bc it gives me something to do here at work) and what i believe you should be checking out but also it would suck, for you, if the event doesn't meet your expectations as i thought or would wanted it to be. also, everyones opinion may conflict so stop being lazy and instead of creating a weekly thread...go on youtube and stay there.

as for josh wink- i'd say go! i believe i'll be there simply bc i havent seen him in a while- although, i did catch him at DEMF but that was for a measly hr or two which wasn't enough for me tbh- soo, with that being said the fact that he'll be spinning for 6 hrs at the bunker and for just $10 (early bird tix, if still available)...i don't see myself passing on that. but then knowing you from your previous threads, i wouldnt recommend him to you bc he simply doesnt fit your taste of "hard techno". hes more on the minimal side...but dont be stuck on just one genre, instead branch out and get a feel for the various music.

You suck- just kidding- I hear you I actually had a hard time finding stuff from the guys on that BlkMarket Party (Dan Bell, etc) . I may check out the Josh Wink party if I get motivated to trek back out to BK- Im outta here.

My $.02.

Resident Advisor is very techno skewed, so if you're ever really all 'i dunno what's good' just see what's the most popular techno event.

The blkmarket party looks to be pretty decent. So does Miss Jools. Though I don't know any of the dj's all that well.

And finally, I saw Wink once @ Sully shortly after "When a bananna was just a banana" came out. I enjoyed the album by my friend and I where very 'meh' on his set. He seemed to play to a more eclectic and classic acidy techno housey something something. I can't remember exactly what I didn't like it just stands out as one of the performances in the last few years I left being disappointed. Maybe it was a fluke or the crowd influence, I feel like you get more old timers at sully than Bunker.

And maybe it's just me, but the techno scene seems impossible to keep track of all the different DJs coming through. I've been listening to a lot of it for years now and I usually have to google around for more than half these guys each week. And they all end up usually sounding about the same any way, ha.

was that the Blkmarket party?

Posted by lounger540 on Feb-02-2011 19:12:

Which, Wink? I wanna say it was Basic NYC since it was @ sullivan room. I think I saw him and Dahlback a few weeks apart, both @ Sullivan Room, and didn't like either. Maybe it's just that club...

[edit]
Found it, Wink @ Basic NYC Feb, 09 . Which places it a few weeks before Dahlback, 3/6/09, but I remembered wrong as he was @ Cielo.

yeaaa..that was with basic @ sully back in uhh cant remember the date exactly but i do remember that it was during the week of save the cannibals bc they didnt let me into rebel since my ex wasnt on the list and she didnt wanna pay so we ended up hitting up wink. that was the last time i remember seeing or hearing of wink in ny.

yea btw, that blkmarket party with bell and even the house assasins with miss jools is all minimal techno so nothing "hard pounding" nostalgia for you mister. hit up miss jools tho on sat and experience a new scene (which i much prefer over anything).

wow, i don't really see hte problem with this thread. in fact, i'd been gathering info and researching DJs from the other threads taurus has made. the best way to learn about a scene, new djs, and new venues is to learn from people who are more experienced and/or have different opinions from you, and check out their recommendations.

hell, i'd like it even more if there was one stickied "weekly techno shows" thread up here... it'd let me know about my options, and would help me even find new music. i think that techno is well enough defined that people would know what to post in there.

i kinda dig this but the main problem is that there's a constant conflict between user and promotion... so if a thread like that were made it would just turn into a "promote techno shows of the week!" thread. i'm not saying that i have anything against promotion here, just that it's difficult to separate the promotion from the general suggestions. the best thing you can do is keep your ear to the ground...if you check out the promo threads and investigate you'll discover new shit...and if you trust a certain users tastes- take a look at what they're attending! it could help, too, if some of the users who did promo threads would write up shit like "if you dig that dark thumping tech vibe you should def look into this guys stuff, cuz i think you might enjoy it" instead of copy/pasting generic promo data.

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-04-2011 16:24:

VINDICATION!....thank you Bear and Lounger- I also did not see what the big deal of this thread was since it sparks some discussion and also gets opinions from people who have actaully heard these people live. Beleive me proir to posting it I did try soundcloud and youtube to hear some of these guys play but either the clip was from years back, or its just singles that they have done, etc it never really gives you a good feel for there sound. I know in the past a few members here have commented on my taste and actually suggested I skip an event since it may be more of a funky - housey techno event and I appreciate it since I wouldnt really have enjoyed myself. That being said I love to listen to all types on my mp3 player but when i go out I go out to listen to the type/genre I like to hear and some pople here understand that and can give good suggestions.
I like the idea of a weekly techno thread - just for people to discuss DJ's etc, sometimes you do not want to go to every party thread and have one off questions when you can get all the information in one thread. I thought the point was to have people discussing things not limiting it.
Great suggestion Bear.

lol i see it differently than you guys...i dont care about a "weekly techno thread", thats cool..i dont mind giving my opinion, in fact, im all for it.

but, creating a thread every single week? thats not necessary and we dont need this place having 5 threads of, hey whats going on this weekend...that creates a mess here (also find it quite annoying). not to mention, the farthest that thread will get is no more than a pg, two if that.

make this your official thread weekly, bump it every now and than and problem solved.

also, bear...who are you & where did you come out from?? i find it funny that within half a yr of being a member & only under 10 posts...you only pop up to bitch...at least taurus is an active member, therefore i can tolerate him a lil more.

Posted by TaurusNYY on Feb-04-2011 17:09:

I dont think Bear was bitching at all...hes like a cobra waiting for his moment and then he strikes lol...tolerate me lol thats just wrong- so fine Ill update this thread every once ina while to keep it going and see if people join up. What does bump the thread mean? I personally think this should be a permananet thread- for all us techno heads.

lol my bad tolerate wasnt the correct word i should've used, no pun-intended.

bump the thread simply means, when you see the thread dying out- in other words, fading away, getting to the bottom of the page- "bump" it (post on it) so it becomes one of the first threads again so it can receive attention, once again.

I have to agree with Z and edubbz.

I understand that you might not be as familiar as, for example, edubbz with the techno djs that come around NY, but how do u think he got familiar with them? Looking up the djs, going out, d/l'ing sets, etc, etc, etc. You're just lazy. I could give you my opinion every once in a while, but the truth is only you know what you like. Wander around soundcloud and get your hands on everything you can get. How do u think we did it when there was no internet?? MIXTAPES. Passed on from person to person. No lie.

We are willing to help, but it's kinda retarded to just expect us to tell you where to go. Totally lazy clubber.
