An idea.

I am so sick of the drama around here. Here's an idea.

It's Monday. Start making a track unlike anything you've ever made before, in terms of production, songwriting, genre, everything. Do something completely new. Surprise yourself.

In a week, next Monday, post your progress here. Whether it's a complete song by then or a 10 second snippet, show it to us. I say as a community we share a collective attempt to step out of our comfort zone. Let's all give each other some feedback, some criticism, see if we can all learn something from the experience.

I really think we're getting to a point where we could all benefit from shutting up for a week and making some fucking music for once. I'm going to do this, I think some of you should too.

i definitely would if i had a desk. im currently in my sofa working on my master of science, watching rambo 2, listening to rockabilly on spotify, chatting on facebook and trolling TA, so i think it will have to wait for my part as this is my plan for the next 3 months. id love to listen to you people in a week though plur

I say we remix the theme from Rambo 2

I smell a beatport top 10

I actually started doing this last night, making a house track at 128bpm. I'm definitely out of my comfort zone, I don't listen to anything like it so I'm very lost at the moment but still got a bit of a groove going.

I'll see how it goes I guess...

like it. if it goes to hell you could always export some loops out of it and contribute in the collab project thingy

I'm in, I'm gonna make a house track using only acetone rhythm ace samples. No synths just samples and fx.

If youre not familiar with it, its this :

60s/70s cheap-ass sounding thing.

Got a few already, but looped for 1min they sound a bit tedious, would be ok to chop up though I guess.

atta boy

I'm thinking about doing something techy and minimal, I think that's about as far away from what I'm doing now as I can get.

Awesome idea!

Despite my awesome rambo post earlier today I did manage to get a good bit of work done one some ambient/broken beat type track, completely different from anything I've done so far.

Maybe I'll try to make something fast and furious with a dance beat (I normally produce ambient).

Ah ha!
I'm thinking you might find yourself getting hooked, I know I did.

I started in trance but when I discovered more minimal tech stuff I fell in love the silence and space between sounds. Hard to explain really.

Nah, I've never found working with rhythm and groove more interesting than working with melodies and harmonies. Still it'd be nice to take a break from it for once.

Got a few hours tonight. Gonna give this a go :-)

Posted by Raphie on Mar-01-2011 20:53:

Glad to see you guys are actually doing this, good stuff.

I'm expanding my idea a bit, I'll post it later since I don't have much to show for it yet.

Didnt do what I said I'd do. But, I made an IDM/Glitch/Ambient/Whatever track, wich I never do.
It was great actually, I'm definitely making more of this.
