Love Poundin' Sensation CLAVIA new upcoming keyboard at Musikmesse. Nord Lead 3X???

http://www.nordkeyboards.com/

Clavia will show a new keyboard at Musikmesse Frankfurt on april 6!

They say: "Nord________? Countdown to ecstasy!"

With this phrase, looks like a new earthshaking synthesizer is on the way!

What do you expect?

I will love the Nord Lead 3X! Same engine as version 3, that great unison detuned lush/juicy flavor, in 192Khz crystal clear DA converters, full of effects and computer connectivity!

I've been watching some of the speculation about this synth for the last few days and it seems that most people are guessing it to be either the Wave 2, Lead 4, or possibly a G3.

Personally, all the toy synths hitting the markets these days have left me a bit cynical, so I won't be surprised if it's something more akin to the UltraNova - i.e., a scaled-down/dumbed/down synth with a minimal interface, cheap plastic construction, a USB port for a software editor, and a few neat gadgets (or cheap trinkets/shiny things, depending on your POV) slapped on for the synth newbies, all economically priced at around $600.

OTOH, I'd love to see a true successor to the Nord Lead series (e.g., 3X or 4). The Wave didn't really float my boat and was a step backward from the NL3 IMO. I also hope that, if they release a serious synth along the lines of the NL- or G-series, that they also release a rack/module version of it. From my observations, Clavia really shot themselves in the foot by not releasing a rack version of the Wave.

It's about time they released another Lead.

So true. The lead series are iconic in dance music, I'd be dissapointed beyond belief if another one doesn't emerge soon. I'd just like twice the polyphony of the lead 3, and all the same features/sound.

Well said. I also want to see some true analog or at least hybrid synths. I don't need outboard gear to run a digital signal when a modern processor can run pretty much anything with ease.

"Hey guys, here's a new full keyboard digital synth that looks cool, only does what all other softsynths do and has USB connectivity. Please deposit $4000 into our bank account, thank you!"

I guess the one thing that's helping me keep the faith with Clavia is that they don't have a history of putting out cheap crap. I hope it stays that way, particularly if it has the Nord Lead name/legacy. But, then again, I'm not in the market for a new synth any time soon anyway, so whatever it is, I hope it does well.

You guys have to keep in mind that clavia was rebranded to nord. So the nord label isn't anymore exclusive to their synthline. Every product runs under the nord label now.

hopefully its something else than 3X, cause 3 was their worst synth ever imo.

I don't think clavia are famous for their analogue gear... They do awesome VAs with awesome interfaces.

I agree that I'd like to see some more innovation in terms of hardware though. A lot of manufacturers are still living in the days when hardware genuinely sounded better. Now software can achieve the same quality, I think they need to move to doing things in hardware that ONLY hardware can do. Things like control, analogue sounds, interesting interfaces are where hardware will always have an advantage, and I think synth makers need to start working those aspects harder to keep ahead...

I'll probably still just get the Nord Lead 2X and pretend I'm The Thrillseekers

im hoping on a nord lead 2x SE/Signature or something lol. basically a 2x with USB and onboard efex like reverb/delay/chorus/distortion.

i'm hearing workstation from a friend at m-audio.

Posted by cryophonik on Apr-04-2011 18:29:

I'd be pretty shocked if they produced a workstation - can you imagine a workstation with one of Nord's infamous minimalist LCD screens and no effects?!

Anyway, I think I figured it out. They keep touting this as the "Countdown to Ecstasy", which is obviously a hint.

Ecstasy is obviously closely associated with trance culture, and the Nord Lead series went: NL1 > NL2 > NL2X > NL3 > NL2X >....????

Therefore, the countdown to ecstasy will be the NL1e Trance Edition, which is basically an NL1 with a new UltraHyperSaw, a trancegate, and a picture of Tiesto on each knob.

LOL

Very inspiring!! I think the knobs will break very often!!

Posted by Zak McKracken on Apr-04-2011 19:41:

i rather thought the extacy thing was relating to even more sensible knobs than the nl3, which reacts in different ways regarding how you threat it. more like nipples. pinch hard for acid and hardcore, lick it gently for that sensual house feeling.

Yep. Organs and pianos. On a side note, I actually like the sound of their pianos (and organs) and, soundwise, the Nord Stage was a strong contender when I was in the market for an 88-key synth/controller/"piano" last year, but Nords have the f#$%ing worst feeling keyboards in the universe. The action is terrible and they just feel cheap - it's like nobody at Nord has ever played a real piano or something. So, that made my decision to buy a Kurzweil a no-brainer.
