A savant!
I put Uni on hold after my first year, and went travelling for 3 years.
To answer your questions:
Yes, hit on girls.
No, don't dress like a douche.
Hats are optional.
3 ring binder.
Get MS word and use your laptop - as a student you should be able to buy it cheap.

Sometimes I contemplate going back to get a doctorate, but I would have to have enough cabbage in the bank to give me a few years off with no worries. I imagine similar situations, although there would be older people in doctorate programs at least. I would speak to as few people as possible, and definitely not dress like a 21 year old. My days of making new friends are over.
i took a hiatus as well...i was still taking a couple classes in the meantime, though. i'm going back in the fall to finish, though. i'm gonna be 23. hopefully not too old to meet some of those tasty freshman bitches.

Laptop for note taking = awesome, for in class notes and book notes. You can print the notes out and put them on flash cards to carry around with you and review (and it saves a lot of time). Not to mention that I personally, can type a hell of a lot faster than I can write.
You don't need word to use your laptop. Notepad/wordpad works just as well. With that being said, you should be able to buy word for relatively cheap.
Paper notebooks = not necessary IMO.
Just be yourself, and if you're more than 10 years older than the chicks... don't be creepy.
I think the hardest thing, for me at least, about going back is realizing how much dedication it all takes. You can't go home and just forget about it like you can with a lot of jobs. It's also harder as you get older to feel like you're a part of the experience. Join some clubs/groups or something to get more involved with like-minded people.
Anyway, good luck!
