are you a cd or vinyl dj?????/
im strickly cd even though i want to start mixing vinyls soon. just don't have the money to start a collection now. that is why i mostly dj for parties, graduations, and new years
vinyl all the way baby... although i do have cd tables for those 'hard to find' vinyls...
...
Vinyl all the way baby! But hopefully I will have enough money soon to add one of those fucking awsome Pioneer CD things to my 3 Channel.
I do vinyl for the better sound quality but really want to do CD cause of the cheaper price.
Vinyl all the way !!!
CDs for lower cost?? HUH?
good CD decks cost MORE than turntables, are not as flexible, and it's a bloody nightmare to find good tracks (especially the full versions of the tracks with the intros/outtros for mixing) on CDs, especially new releases!
of course, you could be saying lower cost because you plan to burn your music from MP3s... and for that, i would have to backhand you like my grandama did when i smarted off to her.
support those who make the music you love

I recently migrated to the vinyl DJ team.
I was mixing MP3s (using an MP3 controller and external mixer). It was ok, i learned some basic skills.
I finally purchased some TTs and gave it a shot, I'm glad I did, I LOVE spinning vinyl.
I may purchase some CD mixers sometime in the future, just like pneumo said...for those "hard to find" vinyls

I'm planning on buying vinyl later when i get a job and so on
I got a Job ... but vynil is expensiv but im a vynil Dj ...
I wanna buy a CDJ to plug in my 3rd channel ! ....
vinyl here
I'm also a vinyl addict
but I also have a cd player lying around in case I need it
vinyl
vinyl here!
I meager, but ever growing collection of vinyl here. At my friends wedding the guy was using cd decks... riiiight
hehe
I can't believe this question is still being asked
people who spin cd ( the small djs like us ) do it for money reasons ( with the added help of being able to play rare tracks )
if you want to be serious about mixing, go vinyl , off course you need the money
I've got CD decks for a month and I've only used them twice cos I just love using vinyl to much. Be warned if you do start using vinyl it is very very addictive.
vinyl, but I am hoping to buy a cd deck soon too, just for those occasional HARD to find tracks!
both actually....i've got two vinyl players and two cd players...
before, i was only using cd's but after joining TA.com i started to use a little bit vinyl too...now the only reasion i have cd players for is those tracks that's not released on vinyl or not released at all
anyway we all need one cd player for unreleased tracks.
the only time i use a burned cd is when i haven't got to buy the single, OR that it is not released, as i said...
cheerz!
vinyl
i have no clue how to use all those gizmo's on a cd tt
Vinyl vs. CD
Being a Dj that started out Dj'ing as a hobbie & having a huge CD collection, I started out using CD's. After learning the basics of beat matching & mixing with CD's, I then started a collecting vast amounts of vinyl. When I finally got 1200's, playing vinyl was a snap!
There's pro's & con's to both formats...
Although I prefer vinyl & use it as much as I possibly can, I do use both formats. For a Dj to only use one format, in my mind, limits the Dj.
There are some tracks that you can only find on vinyl and the same can be said for CD too. As well, certin remixes are sometimes only available on either format. Because of that I am currently in both a record and a CD pool.
There are times where vinyl is just not practical, such as a social/mobile event or club where the music format is Top 40/Urban/Other. Again, CD's are problably not practical for a Dj that plays large scale events such as raves, underground clubs/events, ect.
Just my $0.02 worth
