Coffee shop etiquette

So i set my book down and i go order my coffee. There were 2 tables open (2 4 top tables). One was close to the wall next to the outlets and the other one was next to the ordering station where there is a lot of traffic. I left my book on the one next to the wall. As i order my coffee i noticed the hipster douche with his Mac setting himself up nicely on my previously claimed table.

I politely grab my book from the table and move to the other table next to the counter.

What would you have done COR? Part of me wanted to just go sit there and wait for him to come back and have this Chevy Chace. I was nice i guess.

i think it was fair game since your claim was weak, imo

you need a jacket or something at least. or a big open book and a water bottle or something.

Make sure to urinate on the table next time. Let the hipsters know what's up.

A) its 80 degrees -- i would have to be mega-hipster to be carrying around a jacket and a scarf to put down on the table

b) I had just arrived so my book was closed -- opening it to a page would be pretentious.

c) Water? I am going to a coffee shop to drink coffee -- why would i also carry around a bottle of water? Maximum hydration? I am reading a book not running a marathon.

I dismiss your points good sir.

sorry nchos you got unetiquetted. sure it was a douche move by the guy, but you need more of a marker then a closed book on a table. When i study at the library i toss closed books off tables like theyre shrubs and veins while exploring a new jungle and take my new claimed spot like im King. You should have had it opened to a page and face down, so someone knows you're reading or were reading. You got told son!

edit: the truth is you should have waited. and when he came back explain to him whats up. if he gives you attitude you lash out with fists of fury and tears till the cops come. then run out with his laptop screaming "YOU ALL DIDNT SEE SHIIIIT!"

tough luck then. i mostly always carry a bottle of water in my purse, especially when it's 80 degrees out.

as the previous poster said, your only option is urination.

Proper territory marking is part of any good coffee shop customer's skill set.

Posted by Vivid Boy on Sep-25-2011 18:09:

you carry a murse? you must be quite the sight when you're out in public

Posted by nchs09 on Sep-25-2011 18:19:

Wait i am confused. I thought you were a dude now. Why are we carrying a purse still?

Or maybe i have it backwards?

Posted by Vivid Boy on Sep-25-2011 18:24:

lol nobody knows what it is

Posted by malek on Sep-25-2011 19:50:

its also a douche move to let a book on a table to claime it...

you haven't bought anything yet, you're entitled to shit.

Posted by KilldaDJ on Sep-25-2011 19:52:

put all your shit on the table, coat over the chair, fags keys and shit

mark your territory, if in doubt square up to the hipster prick and tell him to GTFO as you were there first

Posted by Vivid Boy on Sep-25-2011 20:16:

i would have thrown his shit to the GROUND! and then turned on everyone and yelled "GET OFF ME SON! THIS IS MAH TABLE!"

You're a fucking bender for even taking a book into a coffee shop.

But i like to go read at the coffee shop

Posted by Quazar on Sep-25-2011 21:11:

I like reading at coffee shops, too. What's wrong with that?

And yeah, you can't really claim anything until you've purchased something.

Posted by Ygrene on Sep-25-2011 21:15:

Proper etiquette would have been you picking up and carrying your claimed table with you while you ordered your coffee.

Posted by Meat187 on Sep-25-2011 21:18:

You should have spilled you coffee over his Mac. Fucking hipster.

Actually he's not entitled to shit. He had not completed a purchase, and the bathrooms are for patrons only.

Did you need the outlet? If so, you should have plugged your charger in and claimed the outlet. If not, you should let the guy have it. It's not coffee shop etiquette but it is coffee shop karma.

He's using a Mac. He's got enough problems in his life already.

Man, I've tried to be a Mac hater. I really have. But I have to admit they are just better.
