Your crazy driving stories.

inspired by the events that happened to me on Dec. 27th 2011.

I was driving home with my girlfriend from my parents house for christmas dinner.

It was pretty mucky out, rain, and the snow had been turned into slush.

Driving home on the 407, following a bit too close to the guy in front of me (but not too bad)....suddenly he breaks, and swerves to the right.

Two headlights are now speeding towards me. Some asshole is driving the wrong way on the highway!

I checked my blind spot quickly, and turn sharply into the left lane. saving the day.

insane.

So you didn't see anyone in your blind spot?

Traffic jam on Victoria bridge, here in Bris. We were right in the middle of the bridge at the time. There had just been an accident at the intersection, inbound, and all traffic had stopped.

I was shotgun in my friend's car, and the chick in the car in front of us had her hand on the horn constantly, for 20 mins or so (like that's going to make the traffic move). The guy in front of her eventually got the shits.

He stepped out of his car, walked back to hers, pulled the keys right from the ignition, and tossed them off the side into the Brisbane River. Calmly walked back to his car.

We were in absolute histerics.

Obviously, otherwise there would be more to the story.

So you're saying you couldn't see anybody in your blind spot?

Posted by BTG on Jan-02-2012 06:26:

That is correct. nobody was in the left lane. Is this hard to believe for some reason?

lol

Thread has some lulz potential.

December 30, 2011 -
I'm driving out of NYC with my brother in the passenger seat at around 3:50 am. I'd had ~2 or 3 drinks and was totally sober by this point. My brother managed to put back quite a few more. I thought he had fallen asleep but just when I got onto the GWB, I heard this strange noise next to me. Looked over and he had thrown up on himself and in the car. He didn't even say anything. Just sort of stared down. I said 'well...i'll stop at a gas station as soon as we get off the bridge'.

We did that. He took his shirt+sweater off and tossed them in the trunk. We cleaned up a little and then got moving. He was sitting there with some vomit still on him and some of it still around his seat, though. I'm tryin to get the fuck home so I haul ass. Get pulled over and the cop clocked me at 85 in a 50. First thing he asks is "Have you been drinking tonight?" Before I can even respond my brother leans over and offers "I have, officer". He coolly glances over and replies "I can see that." In retrospect, that moment was fucking glorious.

He let me off the hook completely.

I agree.

I drove home one night after getting stupid drunk at a bar, and the whole way home I was like "HOW COULD ANYONE GET A SPEEDING TICKET WHEN DRINKING?!?!"

that was the first and ONLY time i drank and drove.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-02-2012 07:09:

Did you see any cops in your blind spot on your way home?

Blow me.

I did read that part, FYI. Heaps of my friends (two of them dead now, from drunk driving) say the same shit though, and have been busted bigtime for being over the limit. "Oh, I'd had a few drinks earlier, but I was totally sober when I got behind the wheel".

Fucking bullshit, IMO. If you go drinking, then don't take a car, at all. Taxis are expensive, but so are funerals.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Jan-02-2012 07:39:

I've made that mistake before, trust me. I'm pretty fuckin accurate with it now though. I had a drink when we got in the city at 10:30 and then another drink that I finished sometime before 12:30. Didn't hop in the car until after 3...Was sober.

I went out one night with some skeezy nz boy racers. It involved going to McDonalds, throwing a sparkler bomb at the cops, someone driving a 4WD straight over a roundabout with hedges on it, and doing skids/handbrake turns. I of course was just a passenger/observer to all this madness.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-02-2012 07:54:

I was the passenger in a car with my friend driving who was beyond wasted. He turned left on red and we got pulled over. He then proceded to blow a .21 and got taken to jail, and the cop just drove me home.

Fair enough man. Didn't mean to get a tirade going here, sorry, I just miss a couple of my friends who thought they were fine to drive at the time

Did you know your friend was that smashed?

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-02-2012 08:00:

Not really. He was the most sober out of all of us

Ya know, I don't think he saw anything in his blind spot actually. Fancy that.

Yikes. I hope you were very young at the time. I haven't been in the car with a drunk driver at the wheel (knowingly, I guess) since I was 19. Obviously, I have a bit of a history with this kind of thing though, maybe other people don't give a shit as much.

I've had some pretty hardcore arguments with drunk friends about this, and forcibly taken their keys away, and hidden them so they couldn't drive somewhere

Posted by aquila on Jan-02-2012 08:23:

I once tried overtaking some slow wanker hogging the inside lane of a dual carriageway. Screaming past them at 110Km/h I discovered some other slow bastard in the outer lane, swerved to miss them, spun on the wet highway and rolled 3 times down an embankment.

Fun times.
