Progressive House, Progressive Trance

Allright guys.

Can somebody explain the difference between the two genres for me ?

Would it be fair to say that this is progressive house:

Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl Feat. Georgi Kay - In My Mind (Axwell Mix) Full Version HD - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...d&v=SZW7cW2QKf0

And this is progressive trance ?

Cosmic Gate & Emma Hewitt - Be Your Sound - YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxMt...player_embedded

Is it a case of Prog house having more of a bassline , and Prog trance being more melodic?

I love the type of music in the posted links, and have done for a very long time!
I just find it hard to distiniguish between the different genres.

Is it just a case of trance being more soothing ?

What would you class this as, house ?

The dry kinds are always require excess pushing yet do not need much wiping.

Neither of those tracks constitute progressive or trance at all anyways.

What would you say those tracks are then ?
And no funny answers.

Could you post a video of what you believe to be progressive house and progressive trance ?

I love how you got your username after all these years without any spaces or derivation. Cheers.

No, it wouldn't be fair. Neither of those tracks are progressive house, nor progressive trance.

Here is what I believe to be progressive house:

And progressive trance:

Posted by cropped on Mar-19-2012 20:31:

those tracks are more trouse if anything.

Progressive house has got a bit silly now since everyone labels a lot of arena house as progressive.

Prog tends to be more intelligent and less centered around one or two build ups in a song.

heres a few prog songs

Well what have I just posted then ? What genre is that ?
Would the Emma Hewitt song be uplifting trance ?

The Axwell remix is main room house, or "trouse" if you like. The Cosmic Gate track is Euro trance.

EDIT: Although calling the Cosmic Gate track uplifting trance would be fair.

Re: Progressive House, Progressive Trance

I don't disagree that this music isn't exactly very good, but I'm kinda tired of these smartass replies we keep giving new users. Discard your egos and actually answer his fucking question, please? If it isn't worth your time to listen to the tracks and give your answer, then don't bother replying. (Ninja Edit: Thanks for giving a good answer, Jack)

This is nowhere close to progressive house. It's like a slower, crappier version of melodic trance. It reminds me of some of those Future Trance compilations, with much less bass.

This is basically just vocal trance.

Thanks to you, my pride is destroyed and now I must humble myself by bending down wearing sackcloth.

Thank you.
How exactly do you tell the difference ? There are so many genres and sub genres I find it difficult to tell what is what.

SystemJ - So the axwell mix Is just house music ?
And the cosmic gate uplifting ?
Like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH_vvo89AQ8

I'm shocked you had any pride to begin with.

I take that as a compliment. You're a good samaritan.

ASOT, you can go to youtube, google, or discogs and type a year followed by the subgenre. That's how I discovered progressive house and progressive trance from different eras.

Ok, just to make sure.

This is house :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hHTykSWV6U

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUmvPgH5iD0

And this is Uplifting trance :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR9Z...player_embedded

Does uplifting trance keep the same beat throughout, just adding more 'layers' to it as it progresses ?
And house is 'louder' , having more bass ?
House has many different tunes throughout ?

i discovered trance through jesus.

I don't think so. Starting at the present and trying to figure things out backwards is how you end up with people who can't tell the difference between house and trance. The clearest way to learn anything about musical movements is to start from the beginning.

i'm abandoning this thread

Posted by aStateOfTrance on Mar-19-2012 21:49:

Do you guys appreciate this more ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxgWIEyttio

This is uplifting trance, right ? Has to be!

Im pretty sure I know the difference between trance and house, its just when you get these stupid sub genres I get confused.
