Newbies Vs Nobs

Am i missing the point here? Is this forum not about learning to make music to the best of your ability?

I thought asking questions would be a good way to learn? There's no such thing as a stupid question. If you dont know something you dont know it and asking someone is a way to find out, simple!!!

So why when someone looking for advise to they just get criticized by people who think they know it all? If you know it all why are u here?

Think you need to remember there was a point when you knew nothing too.

Awful atmosphere on here at times, just wish people would only reply if they had something useful to say!!

It is a tough atmosphere but I have seen every single user, including regulars get chewed out. Keep in mind it happens to everyone on here and don't take the forum too seriously or personally, while also considering the content of criticism you are receiving and looking at it objectively.

Most of the newbies questions can be answered by google.

This dude expects us to do his work for him and email him the sounds. And, this is for the most basic lameass sawtooth bass sound ever created. We have little tolerance for that shit, yet several people still tried to help him help himself.

When I was first starting out in music, there was no internet. We learned the manly way - by picking up an instrument and figuring it out, even reading the manual, if necessary. a stupid question has more chances to get stupid answers, is linear logic. You'd better try with google first for your simpler demands and come here with something interesting to talk about in order to get the positive input you want.

Asking questions is a great way to learn. Unfortunately, more often than not, other methods of learning are ignored for the sake of expediency in asking questions. 100% of the time, lazy questions are asked to obtain easy answers. I gave an answer to the OP's question. The OP has ignored that answer. He continues bumping the thread with examples of what he's looking for while refusing to accept the answers given to him. This isn't a one-off occurrence. This happens every time someone posts a question like his. The correct answer is provided and subsequently ignored.

It would be one thing if he inquired for more specific information regarding my answer but he hasn't even done that. He's simply ignored the information presented. The assumption I'm left with is that he has such a deficit of knowledge that it is impossible for him to recognize the answer he has been given as the correct one. Otherwise, he recognizes it as the correct answer but is unsatisfied; possibly thinking that there is yet another answer which is easier to apply to his problem set.

False. Stupid questions are questions based on assumptions that pose their own deficit of knowledge - such as your thread concerning "risers and falls". If I show up to a hospital and ask how to reduce a compound fracture of the femur, I'm not going to get the answer I'm looking for. While many of the questions people ask are, in fact, simple, their answers require fundamental building blocks of knowledge that would take multiple paragraphs to elaborate on. Some people here are classically trained musicians. Some have professional credentials or credits on their resumes. There are people, like myself, who are self-taught. All of us have taken years - not days, not months, but years - to learn what the fuck we're doing. It's not that everyone knows everything and doesn't want to share that. It's that we know that the questions you're asking present such a monumental deficit of knowledge that answering them is fucking pointless (See earlier Case in point). When you're given an actual answer, it doesn't line up with the one you were expecting, and you consequently dismiss it. You already seem to know everything by virtue of having learned nothing at all.

A doctor doesn't just up and decide he's going to be a doctor and immediately start practicing medicine, simply because he knows a femur isn't supposed to protrude through the quadriceps and out through the front of the leg. Music, while not having the academic requirement for beginners that medicine does, takes years of practice to learn to get to a point where you can even start asking questions that aren't stupid; questions that are taken seriously, here.

No, we don't. You need to take into account that most of us have learned by research, experimentation, piano lessons, and just fucking doing it. Some of us have been doing this since before usenet. It's questions like yours which help facilitate that atmosphere. They foster a counter-productive intellectual entropy - all heat, nil result. It is fucking retarded. Yes, this is a music forum. Yes, people are here to learn and teach. No, we are not here to address your fundamental ignorance of music theory, synthesis, and related topics just to help you figure out a quick route to sound like motherfucking Avicii. We're not here to parse through your fumbling illiteracy as you flail about trying to make "risers, falls, swoopers, ploppers, bammers, tweakers, goobers, gobbers, gabbers, rolling-bass-lines, breaks, and drops."

People are rightfully irritated. We come here to participate and learn from each other. Each of us has specializations the others lack. But all of us have done our homework. We've spent years getting to know our craft, refine our methods, and achieve our styles; along with whatever accomplishments that came along with that.

You come in and don't want to spend one fucking hour, finding an answer to your question on Google, and perhaps another two, actually reading and understanding it and you ask stupid fucking questions, as a result. Simply put, you are the cause of the problem that you are describing. Your OP is essentially one niggling, passive-aggressive, and disrespectful "Fuck You!" to everyone who you think hasn't answered your questions. They fucking well have answered your questions.



You're just too fucking stupid, ignorant, and illiterate to understand just how acceptable those answers were.
