Falling asleep at the wheel
So today I was on my way to work and probably had the worst case of "dozing off" at the wheel. to the point where I "woke up" and the drivers side was over the white line on the right hand side....literally just a foot more over and I would have flown off the road (one lane road on either direction in the middle of the woods). I don't quite understand why I dosed off....I'm a little sick right now, but this was really bad. And I wasn't really *feeling* tired....my eyes just got heavy and the next thing I know I was almost off the road. Very scary experience
anyone else have anything like this? I'm wondering if I have a certain vitamin deficiency? The drive to work is very boring (and I've only been here for a month, now)....it's all highway driving on a 4-lane or 2-lane road in the woods. My truck is very comfortable....maybe I'm just overly relaxed?
How can you guys do that?! Loads of friends have done the same, and many crashed, but I can't see how you can even relax when you're driving - it's so uncomfortable!
I guess I just can't sleep unless I'm lying down

Holy shit, I'm glad you're ok! What a terrifying thought.
And I agree with Lira, I don't understand at all how people can fall asleep at the wheel. I have a hard enough time falling asleep lying down, in complete darkness and silence.
Take a multivitamin daily and eat right.

When I start feeling sleepy on the road I start singing along with the music. Seems to keep me awake. But yeah long drives with big boring roads with no corners seem to do it..

It reminded me of this. Hunting and chilling
Happened to me about 5 years ago. It was in the middle of the day, maybe 2 or 3 PM, and I just completely dozed off for a second. Luckily my brother was sitting in the passenger seat and noticed right away. I slept well during the night so I definitely wasn't sleep deprived, I just remember it was a really boring drive from like Columbus to West Virginia or something. Thankfully it hasn't happened since.
Last night
I was running on a collective 9 hours of sleep for the past three days, and driving 100 miles at 3 in the morning...Never again.
Maybe you are narcleptic bills

You guys have obviously never worked long hours/night shifts at a physically and/or mentally demanding job. I've dozed off at the wheel quite a few times after night shifts. It has been very hard sometimes to keep my eyes open - and I only live a 5-7 minute drive from my work.
And yeah it's scary as fuck.
Luckily I can say that I've never dozed off behind the wheel, not even for a second. I don't always sleep that much, and I'm often the driver after a night of clubbing. I've been asked many times how I do that, working by day, then heavy clubbing and driving one hour back.
A one hour drive in Holland is considered pretty far, though it would be considered peanuts in any other country I guess, especially in the US.
Also, like Lira, I can't sleep if I'm not lying down.
It never happens to me, because i'm not a dick that drives impaired, and being too tired to drive fits that mold.
yeah unfortunately i've done this a few times. it is very scary. it's only happened to me when i'm exhausted and sleep deprived (i.e. up for 36 to 48 hours etc), but it's something i don't plan on doing it again. i've had a couple of close calls where literally i feel myself completely nod off and then come to...
never again.

I've only ever done a complete doze-off while driving once, and I was lucky because I was stopped at a red light. I couldn't have been asleep for more than 10-20 seconds, and then the engine of the car next to mine woke me up when it accelerated on the green.
I've driven really long hours (Toronto ON to Appleton Wisconsin) and come to the point where the road starts wavering and my head starts doing the bounce. When I've reached that point in the past I stop at the next available parking lot and sleep for an hour.
It didn't happen to me yet, but I can imagine. When you really get tired stopping for like 10 minutes can help, my dad used to do that when he got tired while driving to customers. Problem is you need to recognize that point. Easier said than done I'm afraid.
Also I can image it's scary as a posted a vid in this thread recently of a Russian woman falling asleep on her scooter:http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...s=#.UFYoNkkn0uM
No lie the best advice on this I've ever heard is to start tugging it. Tug, don't finish, and you'll arrive alive every time.

Uh, that guy is a fucking moron. Shouldn't have moved that chick after an injury like that.
You really shouldn't move people at all after an auto accident, correct? Because of the risk of amplifying internal injuries?
It's a difficult urge to resist, I'm sure- most peoples' instinct is to get people to safety, and that means getting them off the busy road. Also, most victims are delirious and want to remove themselves/meander around in confusion, so forcibly keeping them from walking around could not only be a chore, but might cause them further injury. :/
