Question Soda, Pop, or Coke?

how would you call carbonated soft drinks, as a general name?

for no logical reason, Americans are passionate and stubborn about the way THEY call carbonated soft drinks. it's called POP in northern states and midwest (washington, michigan, minnesota), while down south they call it COKE, even if it's pepsi; and along the east coast it's called SODA. so you'll get a funny face if you ask for a POP in New York or Boston, like this , or this .

FYI: as a Canadian, i call it POP.

well here, if its called Fanta, we call it Fanta, if its called Pepsi, we call it Pepsi, and so on!

normally Pop stands for them all as a general name, never use 'soda' but we normally just use the brand name as the name.

Guarana - better than Fanta, Coke or anything else. I don't know if that's sold in the US though... is it? Has anyone ever tried it?

Posted by drizzt81 on Sep-13-2002 18:58:

i guess we call it "Limonade" or "limo" for short

hehehe that is the category, if is it fanta, we call is fanta, if it is coke, we call is coca-cola or cola. If it is pepsi, it is cola too. :P

in montreal its coke.

when i was in toronto, the guy at the shish taouk place asked if i wanted a pop, i was like huuh????

pop sounds gay

reasons why pop is the best word for carbonated soft drinks over coke
1) 3 letters is better than 4 like in coke
2) pop sounds like something that will give u energy
3) you cant call Coke a pop because then the whole coke thing i am comparing too would be messed up.

thats about all i came up with.

I just call it soft drink

pop & soda????? WTF???

I live in Florida and we do not call all drinks Coke here. That's just crazy. If it's Coke...it's called Coke. But, if it's Pepsi...it's called Pepsi. Unless you are calling it by name (which I do most of the time) we call them soft drinks. Some people say soda, but the only people that call it pop around here are transplants from up north. Not that it's a big deal...just stating a fact.
