RA's Top DJs/Albums/Tracks of 2012: Let the games begin!

It's that time of year again, kids!

http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1700

Funnily enough, I was at the Resident Advisor edition of the WHP on Saturday, and now I feel like I've seen at least 50% of the list. Scuba was a bit disappointing, Dettman was crap, Blawan was ridiculously banging for 9pm and Julio Bashmore stole the whole show. And yet I still haven't seen John Digweed. Mock-mock-a-mock.

Just as predictable as Dj Mag's list.

At least they make clear that it's a popularity poll that reflects the readers' taste this year and not a contest to find THE BEST DJ. Although every single year the people in the comments are way too stupid to grasp that.

Still the same old suspects.

Hawtin really is the Armin of that poll. Always hovering near, if not at, the top spot.

Same with Villalobos.

He was on the bill with Chris Liebing, Orbital, Apparat and Modeselektor. Hardly a surprise that he got the early slot.

Lol, those fucking punters up in front just standing and staring with sunglasses.

That's the scene in 2012 in a nutshell. Very stark contrast to 10 years ago. I dont see how anyone could say things are better now than 10 years ago.

AHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

there's so much comedy in that clip. The retards standing front stage, the 3 dj's that are obviously rolling face and trying to talk to Seth while he's got headphones on both ears and hands on the mixer, and the completely fucked transition into oblivion, the crowds reaction. My god that is gold!

It's funny, none of the other Visionquest guys even made it.

Did a spectacularly poor job of tailoring to the slot, though. I did find it enjoyable, but I wish someone in the techno room had been playing like that at 3am instead.

EDIT: Also, that Troxler vid is fucking hilarious. The guy's face at 5.48 after he's leaned over to try and fix Seth's catastrophic trainwreck is priceless. Troxler is clearly off his box, but it's like someone has told him how to mix and shoved him behind the decks for the very first time.

DID HE PLAY THAT ONE THING THAT TALKS ABOUT HIDING BODIES???

Possibly. A lot of memory-erasing stuff happened in the interim. I do remember him playing an awful lot of tracks that went BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM.

I get to see Flying Lotus, Teebs, and Blockhead next week in Atlanta. It'll be my first time at a proper "show" in like... a year. Unfortunately they are playing with a huge roster that appears to be full of brostep/trap acts.

I need to do some traveling next year, methinks.

How proper?

Come to the UK. It's what all the cool kids (Lews) are doing.

I saw Justin Sloe earlier this year, and Com Truise. I think that might be it. Was going to see Grimes but that skank sold out.

Go to a festival that has a Sunday School tent, and just stay there the whole time. Then you get about 500-600 people who are all there to dance and not just stand there looking cool.
