Dunno What happened to GU 002?

I've been looking everywhere for reasons for this and have come up with nothing. I have come to the conclusion that Global Underground number 2 doesn't exist. Now I would just like to know why it doesn't exist?

Posted by Renegade on Sep-17-2002 08:07:

Yeah, you're right, it doesn't exist.

The reason I've heard was that GU02 was a "T-Shirt" or something, not actually a CD, so there's GU01, a T-Shirt and then GU03.

And no, I don't get it either.

Posted by jc on Sep-17-2002 09:46:

who is GU1 mixed by?
anyone know whos behind GU anyway?

Posted by Bedrock on Sep-17-2002 10:35:

GU002 does it exist

its Nick Warren live in Copenhagen

GU001 is by the late Tony Devit in Telaviv

GU is an initiative by 2 blokes from Newcastle,UK (The Fat Boys), they go round to the major dance centres of the worlds with some of the best dj's ever promoting the sounds of progressive house, progressive trance, nu-skool breaks and tech house. Dj's include Nick Warren, the Late Tony Devit, Danny Tenaglia, Sasha, John Digweed, Deep Dish, Dave Seaman, Paul Oakenfold, James Lavelle

GU Nubreed's are an initiative to show up and coming Dj's such as Lee Burrdige, Anthony Pappa, Sander Kleinenberg, Steve Lawler and Satoshi Tomiie

Posted by matt_a on Sep-17-2002 10:46:

I thought GU 002 didn't exist. I thought it was a T-Shirt as in all the booklets and covers for them it is a shirt. I heard that GU 002 was cancelled so they turned it into a shirt. I also heard it was meant to have been done by Judge Jules. I'm glad they made it a shirt.

Bedrock I've never seen nor heard anyone ever mention Nick Warren in Copenhagen. Not even anyone on TA. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. Not on the GU website either.

Yeh i heard that 007 was 002 and that Digweeds 006 was actually 001 but was released later or something. Mixed earlier but released later. There are some copies of 001 floating around with Digweed - Sydney on the front. I'd like to get my hands on one of those even though Ive already got 006.

They def did fuck it all up.

BTW Bedrock you forgot 023

: : 023 : : James Lavelle - Barcellona

indeed!!

but the story about Judge Jules doing 002, and then it not going through, seems the most likely...well, to me anyway.

Posted by Bedrock on Sep-17-2002 12:53:

yeah and Nick Warren GU024 - Iceland

aswell as Danny Howells Nubreed

and... The GU Prototypes by Seb Fontaine

I'm sorry but I could never see Judge Jules doing a GU at all. And especially that long ago... its just not his style of music

This mix is looking FOOKING BRILLIANT

never have I seen a GU mix with so much breaks and tech house on it!

THIS IS REVOLUTIONARY AND WELL TIMED I MIGHT ADD

read the reviews, you'll know what I'm talking about

Posted by matt_a on Sep-17-2002 13:12:

I'll have to listen to it first. See if it's worth $40. Seamans 022 wasnt. Some tracks rock but not worth that. Ill see about this.
Havent heard much tech house and breaks. Sounds cool. Nice change. Though I'd still like to see some more good prog.

Posted by Bedrock on Sep-17-2002 13:18:

I think prog is going thru a bit of an identity crisis at the moment, A lot of the recent compilations seem to be showcasing 'progressive music' but in the forms of breaks and tech house, even deep house.

if you look at Lavelle's GU thats definitely highlighting the importance break-beat has on the 'progressive music scene', Chris Fortiers Bedrock showcases the tech house aspect, and more recently John Creamer & Stephane K's Bedrock compilation showcases sleazy dirty deep house which is not unlike Steve Lawlers Lights Out compilation.

I think you'll find in the next year or so, a huge multi-genre fuzion of progressive music, I think Seaman tried to do it in his Melbourne compilation but it didn't go down to well, but slowly people will come around and realise that there's many different forms of 'progressive music'

yah, that's what I mean. Judge Jules and GU just don't go together...and so it never happened. Ahh, it's all just speculation I suppose.

I'd like to listen to James Lavelle- Barcelona. It looks like it's filled with plenty of stuff that I've heard very little of. I want to expand my musical knowledge. Same with John Creamer & Stephane K's Bedrock compilation and Steve Lawler's Lights Out. The type of music on those CDs are all new to me, which is great.

Posted by Itchy on Sep-17-2002 14:00:

yeah lawlers lights out is a damn good CD imo, and my hat goes off to satoshi tomiie on his GU nubreed installation .............spectacular

Posted by Pointy on Sep-18-2002 02:03:

Bedrock.. have you actually heard the GU023 release? Is it even out??

The story behind GU002 is that the American label Kinetic was put in charge of distributing the GU's in the US. They started at Digweed's Sydney set which is 006, and before this.. all GU's were imported from the UK into the US. Silly americans labelled it 001, and then New York 002... Global Underground caught on and fixed up the mess, and resulted in us now having a blank 002?! Thats what i heard anyway!

its not like any GU before...

Posted by Pointy on Sep-18-2002 03:18:

All GU's have been mixed on protools since 006 i believe. Paul Oakenfold asked by special request to mix 007 straight off vinyl though?
