1993 - 2013 production technology
hi there, i am new to this forum, but not new to trance music...

kinda wondering how you managed to spend 20 years and thousands of dollars of gear and still sound like rebirth. Never ceases to amaze me how people can manage to be so bad yet think they are so good.
Aw cmon now...it isn't THAT bad. This guy obviously has more skills than I do..lol. It isn't my cup of tea,but hey...to each his own.
And personally, I'm pretty envious of that gear (even though I would have no freakin idea how to use it..lol)
Perhaps he is just coming out with a best of scenario, who's to say what his motivation is.
Never heard of Mr. Bode before this, so I didn't really have high expectations, but I checked out the trailer, then a bunch of his tracks, and I liked it a lot. Very organic sounding stuff and the guy certainly knows a thing or two about putting together some solid tracks.
I do hope that this isn't just another guy who stops in to push his latest release, then disappears.

music sounds incredibly stale and lifeless. Like someone sucked all the warm out of it. Sounds like a demo track that would load up in fruity loops before they called it FL studio.

yes, i did "RMB" in the 90s and i was often asked about my tech at facebook... i am quite often at gearslutz and talk about music tech, but not under my real name... so as i opened an account here i thought i could show that i am always willing to tell people what i use/used if they are interested...
of course you only should ask me if you like my sound... and its all fine to not like my style/sound i dont like a LOT of todays EDM, so to each his own...
could u tell me what was the "normal" gear in the early german happy hardcore/rave era? I really loved the sound from the time, around 94, so fresh, open, dynamic, almont no compression and everytging was sounding awesome. example members of mayday - we are different, and marusha - raveland f jones remix and your very own redemption, cause the german sound didnt sound very 909/303 roland like everything else did at the time. did u use more samplers/workstation-synths instead? mixing consoles? maybe post some early studio pics?

i did some auxiliary graphics (mostly the part flying through the nebulae with the shapes in it, all the really great stuff was done by aTom) and the soundtrack. this is actually a real-time executable (tech like in a video game), and i did none of the coding either... the physics simulation and the mandelbulb in particular are really intricate pieces to do in realtime, or were in 2010 when this came out. I'm very lucky to work with awesomely talented friends on projects like this.
Big fan of your work. The RMB-project was a great inspiration for me when i was younger. I always wondered about your track "Matisse". How come you used samples from Ronia the Robber's Daughter? Were you fans of the movie? I think it works great but i always thought it was a bit strange
Rolf has a big open sound I can only dream of.
for me even that it's not the kind of stuff i really like it sounds OK.

yeah, that Akai S-1000 was everywhere... some people used E-MUs instead (like klaus jankuhn > westbam/marusha...)
My early productions [RMB Trax] where with only an Atari, an S-1100 a Roland JD-990 (for all modulated stuff!) and a cheap "boss" 16 channel mixer. An Alpha Juno came and go...
Redemption was done with an Atari Falcon [8 channel HD recording! but miserable timing!] the S-1100, JD-990 and some FX devices (reverb= sony R7) and a not soooo trashy analog mixer (soundcraft i think)
Everything was still live + MIDI sequenced into an analog mixer to DAT.
Mid-90s the studio grew: Mackie 8-Bus, Lexicon FX, JV 1080, Analog Modular, TL-Audio EQ+Compressor...
The biggest differences to 2000-todays production are: no complex sounds/modulations, no super "big" sounds, not many FXs BUT everything went through an analog mixer - and that was often "in the red"
Since in-the-box is typical everything is full with modulated full-spectrum-noises plus FX on each track, everything compressed, distorted and limited DIGITALLY...
no wonder it sounds totally different.
But the biggest differnce between 90s and 2013s music to my mind is: There was much much less music then. Even the biggest label like Low Spirit had just a few releases every month... it was much more work and higher costs to release something.... that led to selection...
nowadays soundcloud, beatport, iTunes & co flood the "market" with thousands of new releases every week....
THAT makes a difference!
