About the ClubSpace set by Tiesto...
I noticed flaming going on between Tiesto fans and non fans.
He is being hated on because his sets are very similar recently.
Predictable tracks like Carrera 2, Mindcircus, Lethal Industry and such are popping up more than once in his tracklistings. Can anybody say ISOS3?
People are hating on him because of this. What they don't realize is that there are 2 points to this...
1. His sets ARE similar in a way...there's no denying that because of the popularity of his tracks and those tracks DO rock the crowd.
2. People don't give a fuck about his tracklisting when they see him live. It's safe to say that trance DJ's and producers attract the most crowds out of any electronica genre, and with a name like Tiesto who is at top of his game, he is pretty much in a position to spin whatever the fuck he wants and still get the buzz from the crowd like no other. You try playing his tracks, and see what kinda response you get...or better yet, see what objects you get thrown at you.
The verdict is, Tiesto draws people on his name, not on his mixing skills. His transitions are anything but skilled, his fades are boring, and his tracklisting is getting very, very old.
But then again, those tracks never seem too old when you are watching him live.
Hate on him or not, Tiesto commands and receives respect. That's that.
I'll see him live in a month and I DO expect to hear some of the tracks he's been spinning recently cuz:
1)like djohn said he can drive the crowd (me) crazy when he throws down some of these tracks
2)NO one out there can mix the tracks and create so much NRG like he can
But in another way I wanna see him throw some new stuff I've never heard b4
But his tracklist changes a bit from time to time, I've seen Warrior-If You Want Me and couple other new tracks in his tracklist
Again like djohn said no matter what the fuck he spins, people will still go crazy seeing him live!!
Afterall Tiesto is a very skillful DJ and I have much respect 4 him!!!
alright...
see the fucked up thing - -
in Colorado...where im from, tiesto is unknoww. yes, there are areas of the world that DONT know im....strange but true. and i think that makes him cooler, but some may disagree w/me
As for Tiesto dropping the same tracks time & time & time again, I think people got that wrong. Ive only heard one or two Tiesto sets with-out a new track in. One new track per set is good enough for a live crowd, I seen him twice now and both times he played new tracks, First time about 3 new tracks, Second time atleast 8 new tracks.
I think the main reason people hate Tijs is because most of his remixes are shit, but i dont judge him on that, I love him because of his amazing sets !
Yeah. Like I was saying, all I'm trying to do is get my opinion across both ends of the spectrum.
But with the track dropping at his recent sets...it's gotten a little bit stale hasn't it? Remember PvD last year? Epic Monolith, Empire, Dreamland, Massive, Into the Night...same format, different placements, maybe a couple of new tracks here and there. Oh and how can we forget his golden years of 2000? Tell Me Why(Vandit Mix re-edit), Cream, For and Angel, that En-Motion song who's title I always forget etc you know the rest...
Anyways, I kinda disagree with the part about mixing his songs...the tracks are fairly simple to mix, but that doesn't mean it's easy to make them sound good. I'll give him the proper props he deserves: he does make simpleton transitions sound good, although anybody with 2 ears and 2 hands can pull them off with enough practice
His sets are amazing, oh yeah...I saw him live for the first time @ Coachella, and after that, I haven't heard a recorded set the same way since.
And your right. His remixes lately are shit.
But oh well. We all love DJs for what they can do for the crowd. And Tiesto does that just right
there's simply not enough supply for the demand of 'new' tracks.
it's virtually impossible to expect to hear different tracks in every set because
1. there isn't an army of leprachauns producing qual trance 24/7
2. the number of sets he plays
and i really think armin has effectively killed off hearing new tracks from dj's, with asot EVERY week playing JUST RELEASED tracks, you're pretty hard pressed to hear a dj spin an unknown, newly released track (other than their own of course).
This is a nice thread,,, you guys raised some good points. I saw Tiesto this summer and he played pretty much all the same tracks that were played in Ibiza this summer etc. I also saw him last December and I though his set was far better,,, he played some dope tracks like King Of Clubs- Revelation,,, Push- Strange World,,, Insigma- Open Our Eyes,,, etc. Although one thing I noticed was that the vibe and energy of the crowd was exactly the same. Tiesto is with out a doubt one of the most loved Dj's by the dance community,,, I don't think anything is going to change that.
peace.
bah
he just needs to update his box... i mean im sure those tracks are the best in his box and hes doin a fine job with them but perhaps its time the box got a overhaul... simple as that
hes probably been very busy
! but then....
it is his job afterall....
and if you noticed, every single dj is spinning the same tracks over and over again. like ferry, he played eon - pocket damage for every single tracklisting I've seen in the past 6 months. wtf?
this only leads to one sad conclusion.. there is very few quality trancers being produced nowadays.. the scene is slowly dying.. at least as we know it. It's becoming everyday more progressive and less "trancy".
People who bitch about Tiesto sucking..obiously don't respect trance.
Tiesto is a great DJ..one of the best there is. So they should all stfu.
Most people who say that..chances are tbey have never seen the man live. All they care about is..say..Armin playing the newest stuff. It's stupid..and some just say he sucks because others do.

Just about everyone has criticized DJs for playing (more or less) the same tracks over and over again at different venues. News flash. DJs don't perform sets for us to download and compare against the other dozen-odd sets we've heard in the past few months. They perform for the live crowd, the crowd who hasn't heard their various other sets in other places. So why wouldn't their sets be similar?

Who gives a shiat that his tracklists are all the same. Its not like the same hundreds of people travel to every single one of his performances. Therefore wherever he spins, the people there hear something new. Its not like he's playing for the guys at home downloading his livesets.
im seeing tiesto the 4th of octobre again, and i would love it if he plays some 'old' (what is old??)tracks, maybe like his magik 6 cd, or his energy 2000 set. that would be very very very fucking brilliant.
but i dont think he is going to do that.
but yeah his sets sounds the same but as he already mentioned in an interview. its a small group on the forums who are complaining. there is just a major difference between listening a set on the radio / computer, and being there where the set is played.
so dont complain and just go to the sets (i think)
and i think he should indeed update his box with records: put back in the golden classics from '98 '99 and '00
that would be awesome if i hear rank 1 - airwave again, arrakis - the spice (men i would really go nuts)
i too saw him AT coachella........he blew my mind.......
then i saw hime last month in Vancouver BC and i wasnt as impressed...
i think his is getting TOO BIG......i hope he doesnt pull an Oakenfold on us......
tyler
i have yet to see him live yet.. but to tell you the truth.. i like those songs that he replays.. carrera 2, leathel industry.. etc. thos choonz are mint... yea i know it gets repetitive but... if u dont like it .. there are lots of other dj's you can see... man, all i know is that when i go see him he better play those songs because those are a few of my fav choonz... would really make my night to hear em =)
I was at space and i saw tiesto last month. i must say that he was incredible. it wasnt the his mixing skills that blew me away, but it was the energy he had while he was up there. he had a huge smile on his face and was going nuts during the set. he was pretending to play a keyboard during midway - monkey forest. and during another song he pulled on the 18 wheeler horn right at the climax for about 30 seconds and danced around as he did it. he loved being up there and that energy transfered to the crowd. and while his tracks have been pretty much the same i didnt seem to mind it while i was there dancing. i am glad he played lethal industry, mindcircus, and solarcoaster. there are great songs that sound even better on a real system. for all you who are complaining about the same tracks being played...go see him live and watch him spin these tracks. once you are there and dancing you wont care. you will just be smiling and dancing to great trance music.
umm when did tiesto remix, Paul van dyk, john digweed, and sasha track????
wtf is taht radio dj saying???
I agree with Starglider and Racoon...Hes playing for a live crowd, not some weasels sitting on there computers, who have 3 new sets of his in 2 weeks. Although, I must admit, he is less likely to have new unheard tracks in his livesets then other djs. eg. avb, cosmic gate, blank & jones.
JESUS
Yeah. I guess you guys are right. Other than his tracklist being a little repetitive, who gives a fuck about how fresh his set is...it's not like he spins so people can download them, he spins for the crowd.
And he does that just wonderfully. I too saw him @ Coachella(yeah Hondaswapper!!!) and....yeah. Lets just leave it at that. Suburban train AND 643 in the same night in a 2002 set? FUCKING-WOW(it was the first time seeing him live and i was under some 'substance infleunce' at the time so that made it about 100 times better...hehhe)
I liked his set @ Space. If plays something similar when I see him in October than I will be
Remember he's playing for the live crowd, not the dl's who compare every set he does.
I adore Tiesto. He's my second favorite DJ, and for good reason. But he hasn't rotated many tracks in his box since, oh, May or earlier. I really think he ought to introduce some new material and not overplay what he's currently pounding. Perhaps he's trying too hard to define the 'summer sound' of 2002. I'm ready for some fresh Tiesto mixes, and I say this as a fan.
imo i think Tiesto needs to get his records updated.
I think you should stop bagging him out for playing the same stuff. Look at it from his perspective. When he plays, hes there to entertain the whole crowd. Now theres a small number of us clubbers out there who actually go and download sets from djs off the net. The majority of clubbers dont. Because he plays in different places and different crowds all the time, i don think he really worries if he plays a similar set at another party because the majority of the clubbers havent heard those particular tracks yet. Its just because we listen to so many of his sets that they begin to get boring. Now if he were a resident at some club, and he was playing the same stuff every week, Then i think you'd have grounds to complain.
Thats my 2 cents
