Which djs are still playing proper trance?

Have listened to trance music since the late 90's and have followed all the big guns throughout the years. Which current djs are still playing the uplifting trance tunes that made people like PvD, Armin, Tiesto and Ferry renound?

I have my opinions, just interested in other people's views.

as far as i can see, there is no modern day equivalent. the sound is just far too processed these days. the almost-acoustic, raw quality that you only got back then was the one and only proper trance sound.

people will point to j00f, but they are guilty of this horrible processed sound i am talking about - it's awful, and rips the soul out of the music.

it's like it lacks any natural reverb or something, it's totally dead. i don't know... i wouldn't even call it music

i'd call it 'wooden', but that what be a compliment. it's like rubber or something

A little of topic maybe:
I saw Tiesto at a talk show yesterday on Dutch television. He said he gets bored pretty quickly (@3:30 1st vid) and in 2007 lost inspiration for trance music. Then he heard U.S. DJ's play multiple genres and mixing them up. After that he changed his style and found new inspiration, which not everybody likes, including me. But I can understand his point and choise.
His new track is called "Red Lights", not very special although I liked the vocals. (2nd vid)

On topic:

I like Airwave's sets a lot lately since I'm following him a little closer.
This one is from last week: Airwave & Quadran live @ Bonzai Retro 2013

Rong in Manchester had a "Pure Trance" event a few weeks ago, Solarstone played a 3 hour set. Check it out and decide for yourselves!

airwave. the man still making a good balance of techno/progressive/trance

I would say JOOF but he doesn't play that deep style live like he does on GTG. I'd like to nominate someone else besides Airwave, but he has done a great job of combining decades of EDM together recently and the key-tar that he uses with the tracks is awesome.

Can you please link to one of your favorite modern Trance sets?

I enjoy John Askew's sets, he has complained a few times about lack of viable tracks though.

Chrostopher Lawrence is nice too but psy-ish most of the time, and you guys hate americans

I'm liking Bryan Kearney, his set from Argentina was immense. Old and new trance. Well worth checking out.

ad flash from Russia, been hooked on his dj sets for over a year now. Quality TRANCE. I've converted a few of my friends into some trance from his sets.

I can't say anything about you but Ferry corsten doesn't play trance he's jumped on the electro bandwagon and so has Markus schulz. But with Markus schulz he only plays like 1 decent set every year, every other time it's crap.

Posted by Unique2701 on Dec-01-2013 22:30:

no one, cause no proper trance is being made anymore.

j00f is decent, if you're up for that dark prog psy/psy sound.

and ferry made my ears bleed the last time i heard him play.

There are still DJs playing the old school stuff...Like I said, Kai Tracid and Talla 2xlc.....and Miss Shiva on occasion...I would play the real/proper trance if people still booked me.. Of course, that's really my fault for not even trying, anymore....

Example:

The guys that are staying true to the sound in my opinion are the following:
Bryan Kearney, Sneijder, JOC, John Askew, Simon Patterson (sometimes) and am liking Will Atkinson too.
Would love to hear more updated remixes of classic trance tunes. Tunes like Strange World and Suburban Train would sound awesome with the right remixer.

found a real trance tune from 2013!

always happy to eat my words in this situation, i thought stuff like this was consigned to history.

excellent record, takes me back to the good old days, could be from 2005 or something, reminds me a bit of robert nickson crossed with andy moor

SO... what dj's are playing this record, and - is there any more like it??!

Posted by UrbanNinja on Dec-03-2013 20:55:
