Not a fan of the name but topping "Footwork" is a toughie. I think "The Underground" would've been cool, and ironic because the club is a loft. I already love the space (have been twice already since the fw team took over) and am really excited to see how they make it better. Steph told me they are renovating every inch of the club when they shut down for 3 weeks after new year's. New sound (PK system from the island) and new lighting are just a start. I'd really like to see them take out the lighting system they have there now (seems really dated) and put in a nice led light system. Lighting that you want to take a video of.

With Guv shit listed, a venue this size with great bookings was needed. Ryze has filled a void and it'll be great having both clubs to pick from in 2014... I just wish one of them was open past 5! To see the talent they bring in play proper extended sets would be a treat. What happened to the Toronto of yesteryear with clubs like Boa and System sound bar that were open till 9am? Does Toronto have stricter laws now or are club owners just not interested in working that late? I know we have zone - but they only bring internationals on New Year's now. I don't buy the theory that Toronto doesn't want to party that late. Sure, Footwork was rarely busy when it shut down at 5AM, but if they put the headliner on at 4AM, it'd be a completely different story. Coda is shaping up to be Toronto's stereo (our closest thing to Stereo before anyone jumps on me )... it'd be amazing to have hours that were at least similar to it.

for tenaglia at maison around 6 it was still pretty full...guv was full last time i went (phone got stolen from my pocket so its shit listed too for me) the bottle service crowd/younger kids seem to be staying out later i guess. so coda is going to be new footwork renovated i guess? that layout kinda confused me, and ya name is kinda lame. a no texting on the floor/standing still in front of the dj booth policy would be nice ! a techno focused club next please =)

coda...

Wait, so is this just what the new Footwork is going to be called or is this a whole new venue?

Posted by Special K on Dec-16-2013 13:53:

^^^

Seems like it (Coda = 794 Bathurst)

Re: hours of operation.

Mehhhh 5am is enough. I'd rather have the headliner go on at midnight / 1am and play for a few hours then 4/5 am. A venue with stereos hours would not interest me at all.

Id def prefer something like output where you can buy alcohol and party until 5/6 am.

Agreed, the Output model is perfect. Party til 5/6 and be on your way.

No need for crazy afterhours like Stereo in Toronto.

I think they're open till 7am most nights which allows them to book a lot of djs for 6 hours. It doesn't have to be crazy stereo hours but a club that does extended sets like this would be great. Those who like to party harder can stay till 7 or 8 and those who want to leave at 5am can, still having seen seen at least a few hours of the headliner.

Getting back to Coda, I'm really curious as to who they will bring in for the opening weekend. Should be massive!

Love the name, but I sure hope 'CODA' was thoroughly vetted lol

A simple Google search results in 'Council On Drug Abuse'. I'm guessing it was not.

Bummer. I was hoping they'd keep calling it Footwork. It's a good name and a strong brand.

That and we could always use another top-notch club.

Agreed. Finally attended Stereo for the first time ever in early November and while it was one of the best parties I've been to since I can remember, I wasn't a big fan of the hours. Getting too old for this shit lol

I like the name a little more now

Really stoked to see the outcome of this.

Given that the parties involved are experienced and really know what they're doing, I expect great things!

I like the name Coda. I think it is catchy and underground at the same time. I was never a fan of the name Footwork. But it caught on everyone. Moskito was a really lame name. Ryze is not any better!

I would love to see the Footwork crew do some legit renos and make it look anything like stereo - classy and yet afterhours! That would be epic! PK sound's sound system was pretty good from what I caught on Canada Day at the Toronto Island. Then again that was an outdoors space. Hopefully they are as good for their indoors sound as well.

After clubbing around in different cities and Ibiza especially, one thing I have certainly noticed is that the sound systems in all the clubs in Ibiza is far superior to what we have in Toronto. Footwork had one of the worst sound systems imo. I'm sure it won't be the same with Coda!
