And you thought pop-ups were the bane of surfing...
I can't believe I just got this on my computer!
Look closely and you'll see what I mean...
What won't they stoop too???
(hint: look at the title bar)

How are we supposed to make that out?!
i started getting the same stuff firestarter

omg, they are actually directly spamming ip adresses now, that's amazing.
I was wondering how long it would be before they started doing that.
Oh well. i think it's time for DOS attack on those mother******s.
I guess the ones that are a little more technically inclined will understand (that's nothing against you Cuba).
Basically, it's a built-in messenger service, runs as a service and runs under the hood of most Windows based systems.
I just can't believe I got one like THIS...
I wanna know how this fargin' bastages did this...
for those who aren't in the know, this means that window pops up on your screen that is NOT a webpage, and you don't even need IE open.
it means they have your IP in a database somewhere and are directly sending messages to YOUR computer, not your email address you happen to check on that computer.
to put it in laymans terms, it's the difference between getting junk mail, and having telemarkets call you at home.
ah, i just had a brilliant idea. Everyone who gets one of these messages should DOS attack the server.
in case you don't know, here is some info on DOS attacks: http://www.denialinfo.com/
an ip message cannot be sent without a from address. this address can be extracted, and then targeted with a DOS attack.
Somebody should set up a website to gather all the people who have been targeted, and organize them together for a synchonized attack.
in fact, even better would be to hack the person who's doing this, then steal their database, and send out your own message to all the people's ip's in it.
you could say something to the effect of:
"Somebody has stolen your ip address, and now posseses it in their database. This is unfair and an invasion of privacy. We would like to get even with these people. We are setting up an attack against them. please go to the following webpage, www.stopipspammers.com, and sign up. you can download the client, and we will make these bastards pay"

alternately, we could have people call up that phone number and ream the shit out of the people, and have them pull their heads out of their asses and realize this is not acceptable behaviour for any company.
OMFG
I just got another!!!
Ok...I'm going to email like they suggest...
I was hopeing it was a one time thing....
BASTAGES!!!!

I recently began getting these too, actually I've only had one so far, but Im thinking it won't stop there. BTW, shouldn't your firewall block that?
Tucows just registered the domain, they're not hosting it.
AND
by replying (I hope u used a junk mail account) you're just giving him a connection between your IP & an email address you check so they can sell that spam list too.

Heres an idea if you have a static ip, ask your isp about how to change your isp and if they can change your ip more frequently instead of a 2 day ip or something, because i think cable modem ips change from time to time. ask your isp for ways to stop ip spamming.

It's probably better to report them to the bbb(better buisness berau) or some other goverment related thing, they probably have firewalls n shit that keep them fairly safe. Plus reporting them is a more permanent solution.

How to turn off Windows Messenger Service What Windows Messenger Service Allows to Happen on Your Computer Should a pop up box appear on your screen with the words "Messenger Service" in the title bar such as the one below, chances are that you have Windows Messenger Services enabled. ![]() In their initial state, Microsoft Windows operating systems (98, ME, XP, 2000, NT) allow anyone on the internet to pop up Windows on your screen. There is no need for them to know anything about your computer and your computer does not care who does it. Even less savory individuals may pop up messages on your screen that try to fool you into taking actions that may not be in your best interest. The important thing to remember is that anyone, anywhere in the world can pop up one of these messages on your computer. At this time it looks as though all these messages will have "Messenger Service" in the Window title. It would be wise to verify with support staff any such message that appears on your computer that instructs you to to take actions that may divulge sensitive information, change your password, leads you to a web site, or take other, unusual actions on your computer. Also know that spam senders are using the Windows Message Service as another way to distribute their advertisements. Keep in mind that faculty and staff are advised to check with their computer support staff before disabling any service so that you do not inadvertently disable a service that your department uses. Disabling the Messenger Service To remove the ability for anyone in the world to pop up messages on your computer, you can disable the Messenger service. Its easy to reverse at a later time if you wish to do so. Windows 2000 Click Start-> Programs-> Administrative Tools->Services Scroll down and highlight "Messenger" Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. Click the STOP button. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar Click OK Windows XP Click Start->Control Panel Click Performance and Maintenance Click Administrative Tools Double click Services Scroll down and highlight "Messenger" Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. Click the STOP button. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar Click OK Windows NT Click Start ->Control Panel Double Click Administrative Tools Select Services-> Double-click on Messenger In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop, Then choose Disable as the Startup Type Click OK Windows 98 & ME Windows Messenger Service cannot be disabled |
hah, i never thought having dynamic ip would be useful..
I'm on a network with a router that has a firewall. Will I be safe from these spam messages? (perhaps since they would have to know my internal IP as well?)

Finally, I disabled that thing, Though you gota feel sorry for those using win98 and ME, Theres no way for them to disable it, Unless they upgrade to XP.
