Almost May GAS Thread

So yeah, I thought having I will have Omnisphere 2 tomorrow would make me satisfied but after I watched the Roland demo of the JD-Xi I am GASing so hard right now... Say what you will about it, that its a toy with shiny lights but at $500 getting a mono analog synth, a full polyphonic digital engine with some great sounding presets and quick programming capability, 808/909 with a builtin sequencer it is very hard to turn down. The fact that all of the digital parts are individually tweakable down to the individual drum samples is also pretty cool.

I was thinking about getting a TR-8 but at the same price point as the JD-Xi which also does 808/909 etc its kinda hard to turn down.

It looks like its just a fun synth to jam out with and get away from my computer screen with.

Oh shit.

It takes a lot for me to say this buttThat thing is an Electribe killer right there, but it's actually like an electribe, with a built in analog monosynth, a (really good sounding) Vocoder, and a fully digital synth with FX matrix.

How the fuck are they doing that for $500. I've never really been on to have GAS, and not really ever that impressed with synths, but that thing is pretty fucking incredible.

That is exactly what I said after watching that demo. And apparently everyone wrote this thing off at NAMM this year

i have recently gotten a TR-8, it's awesome. i don't know how a keyboard synth could possibly substitute for a hands-on drum machine. love working with the faders. i have a volca sample with 808/909 samples, but that doesn't compare either.

i got a waldorf streichfett yesterday. still to put it through its paces.

01. Weiss INT 202 Thunderbolt to Firewire Interface for my PMC's, been thinking about this one so I'm not clear on it yet. Its def better than the Hosa converter but I wonder if its better than my Lake People C430 Mk3.
02. Even more treatment, my room is halfway finished.
03. Omnisphere 2.
04. Komplete upgrade from Kvr used.
05. Just bought Vovox Initio power cords from vintage king, we'll see how they sound, most likely it'l be a return. sucks that their sold out at all VK locations so I got a wait.

Have a bonus incoming in work so I might go for the Tanzbar after all but i will need to pick up an expansion device also

Was looking at the TR8 but having to use it as your soundcard is non-runner for me

For a live setup yes, it does not replace the TR-8.

For just jamming out of the box, the JD-Xi is a quite good value proposition.

Just spent 1300 on a new PC, so yeah. No GAS for me for now

It's fucking MASSIVE

Good for you guys.

Today I found out I'm going to have no job this autumn and I currently can't afford to pay my rent.

damn, hard times huh? i was in the same boat not long ago except it was pay cut and my wife lost her job, we lost our house. we were able to come back though, just had to strategize. come up with a plan A and a plan B in case plan A falls through. life seems like it's in cycles, where it's good times and very hard times. as soon as you feel comfortable then something happens, at least with us. then it gets down to sink or swim, and we have to bust our ass and sacrifice stuff. good luck man

======================================

i've been GASing for a Moog Sub Phatty for a long time now. a few months back i could've gotten one but i got a Waldorf Pulse 2 instead because it's more versatile but i'd still love to have a Sub Phatty.

Omnisphere 2 is at the top of my list but i won't be able to get it anytime or anything else anytime soon. the new features have me wanting it but at the end of the day the main thing i love Omnisphere for are its sampled waveforms and sounds from vintage analog synths. Omnisphere's synth-side is great, it's so underrated and unacknowledged but it's so extensive and sounds so good, it's modulation capabilities were ahead of its time. now they've taken it's synth-side even further which will finally get people to pay more attention to its synthesis capabilities. but having said that, i already have great-sounding synths with plenty of modulation capabilities so that's not a big seller for me anymore like it was years ago. the furby and melodic stalactite sounds seem interesting but what about additional vintage analog sounds (i'm thinking Juno or Jupiter-8, etc)?

This looks awesome. Seems like I can connect it to the x0xb0x/TR-8 via MIDI, and include the synth parts from the JD-Xi without having to use an external MIDI sequencer. For that alone, it might be worth it, not to mention all the other features, including the drum kits.

Sorry to hear that. What's the jobs market like in Finland? I thought the economy was doing OK?

So, lately I've been GAS'ing a bit for a Nord Lead 3R or 4R and I just stole a 4R off a guy for about half the price of a new one.

i've always wanted a Nord, i love the character of the sound you get from them plus their weighted keys feel great. i've really been GAS'ing for a Nord ever since i found out a Nord was used for the sounds i loved from the album that really got me hooked on electronic music back in the 90's - crystal method's vegas album.

I've just bought a Rode Procaster for voice, and it rocks. Pretty similar to an RE20 for 1/3 the price.

I also bought a facking TB>FW cable for 25

I heard the demo's for the tanzbar and i like its character much better than the flimsy tr-8. I just put mine up for sale and will settle for tanz in the future.

Posted by rubez on Jun-16-2015 14:23:

how is the TR-8 flimsy? sounds like you are talking out your butthole.

and how can you compare its character to something completely different?

other than the real deal, there isn't another drum machine that does the x0x sound better.

let me guess. it has something to do with that magic word analogue?

You have a reputation for being an idiot and i'll just pass on your questions.

and? are those two separate statements? i'm the idiot?

don't bother trying to justify your silly comments, you have already come off as a retard.

and by the way, you couldn't tell the difference between samples and analogue if your life depended on it... talking about "character" n shit!

This is pretty rich coming from you.

Posted by cryophonik on Jun-16-2015 16:11:

You don't need to be a brainiac to know that the TR-8 is built like a flimsy POS. Roland cut corners on construction to keep the price tag down - a lot of companies do that. Unless your only frame of reference is a Korg NanoKeys, the TR-8 is not considered a solidly constructed piece of gear. This isn't even worthy of debate.

Posted by Innocence Lost on Jun-16-2015 16:17:

On a side note you need to use as sound card when using windows which was a complaint i been hearing from some here in the forum.
