Frexit 2 5 0 ?

So at last we reached Friday episode 250.

After a week of rain, rain and more rain, we'll have a storm at Sunday, so I hope at least we can enjoy the Saturday.

Tomorrow football, last week's match was cancelled as the field turned into a swimming pool. In the evening going to a friend's Birthday party.

Any plans you like to share?

Maybe till next week, we'll see if it's gonna be Frexit or not.

Dinner with friends/birthday celebration tomorrow night. Skiing Sunday. I intend to enjoy both very much!

Floorplan tonight. At long last. This storm's playing hell with my travel arrangements though. If it hits before 5am then I could end up stuck in Manchester on a comedown, which would not be ideal.

I've come to change that and say every week that I'm working on tracks that will most likely never see the light of the day, but I'm having lots of fun producing them.

Floorplan were good, but not mind-blowing. A bit too much "breakdown techno". Still had a good night though, and managed to get back before the weather really turned apeshit.

I would not call them a mind blowing act either. That kind of gospel infused techno is all about the physical and just getting the fuck down. Unless they didn't play their usual grind and groove type stuff. Funk and soul samples, etc.

Yeah, there were a lot of funk and soul samples. Quite a lot of filtered disco house as well. They played Bucketheads - The Bomb, for example. I guess there were a lot of good tunes, but hardly any tunes that made me go "Oh yes, this is a monster."

Sounds about right. And I'm pretty sure they play mostly the same tracks a lot (heard them play The Bomb myself, each time I have seen them and back when it was still just papa Hood), which is the one unfortunate thing about their act.

I don't get DJs who rinse the same tracks for years on end, especially the ones who play out every weekend. Don't they get bored of hearing the same tunes?

Especially a guy like Hood, too. But perhaps he's just enjoying his daughter discovering, playing, and catching the feels off his old stuff. That must be pretty sweet.

if you think about it guys like eric prydz and junior jack come to mind , they both had massive top 40 hits early on in their careers , and then instead of trying to rival it they went in different directions ..

to the point where I never saw eric play "call on me" once...in fact his first ever show in canada he was boo'd in montreal for not playing it , that takes some self restraint , not giving into to the fans like that, but also shows he had a different vision one where only he was in control .

but in the same token , pleasing the crowd isn't neccesarily bad either

Depends on what kind of night you're looking for. I do like that some acts are very dependable, like Floorplan. Some nights you just want a guaranteed good time, without the extra work of feeling out the music and crowd.

when i go see rob hood or floorplan, thats one of the only exceptions where i don't mind the small record bag. my ideal set from him would be all his/their old stuff, repeated.

disagree with prydz comment. he only plays his stuff, just swaps out a few tracks each time for other ones. i've left early every time he's played. i did like a lot of his older songs but when it comes to playing them out, he's never done it for me

i understand where you guys are coming from and i don't want to go too off topic, but one thing ill say is i don't mind a Michael bay movie sometimes, i thought Armageddon was dope ....not always in the mood for an art project or realism.....sometimes it just needs to be entertaining ..and you can apply that same concept to a dj set in a way ..or a hot dog from a food stand

What are you blathering on about? We�re just talking about a techno DJ playing the same tunes for years on end. I�ve no idea what popularity or musical junk food has to do with that.

I don�t even play out and I get bored of playing the same tune after a few months of dropping it in sets just with friends. I just find it weird that a touring DJ who probably plays every Friday and Saturday can play the same tracks over and over and not get bored sick of them. They don�t have to be big popular tunes.

That what makes a tune timeless. DJing is personal, not everyone treats the music they play as disposable. I still play the same tracks I've played for years because I love them.

In fairness of the argument being made, Floorplan consistently play well over 50% of the same music every time. It's more than just a handful of timeless tunes.
