thats damn good timing then because i go to see him friday and i am not looking to be disappointed.

Posted by UWM on Dec-03-2002 01:39:

I agree his mixes have been really good latey on radio shows, with top track selection. Only thing I can slight him on is that with these shows he does most mixing on computer. Who knows what you are bound to get live. Just keep him away from the Charlie

Posted by ViciousLoad on Dec-03-2002 01:46:

Excellent,i expect Oakenfold to come back strong like he was before. He will be put back to the top of my list..

Posted by Space Cadet on Dec-03-2002 02:11:

I don't think thats going to happen though. I must agree his mixes have been really good but I just saw him here in Brazil last week and in Miami the week b4, man did this guy blow!! It was fukkin horrible at one point he actually spun jump around, u know that old hip hop song, horrible. And he was soo strung out all he did was do his jesus pose on stage(by the way I have most of his set taped and filmed along with Pete Tong on 4 different cameras) Don't get me wrong oakie 2 years ago was my fav DJ by far, but I have to say the last 4 times I have seen him ever since the music conference he has been getting worse and worse. And I guarantee that at the end of his set he will play his new version of the prophet, which honestly I think doesn't even come close to the original, he added some weird noise and distortion it sounds really crappy. Well who knows hopefully he will spin a decent set but don't keep your hopes that high.

Excellent news! I love Oakie's old stuff (ie Cream Anthems, Flouro, EM World Tour).

Can someone mention a couple of his recent sets that are worth downloading.

what?

like he used to be Carl Cox on stage or something? he has been mixing with computers as long as ive seen him.

MOST dj sets are based on a DAT, thats how acapellas and effects are often brought in or difficult mixes are accomplished before hand. its not always the case with every dj, but with these big djs doing the same set night after night it is.

and to all the people that think Oakenfold has 'come back' you need to avoid the whole fair weather fan attitude. every oakie set ive been to he has ended up finishing the set with 98/99 era trance, so i dunno how he has 'changed'. |

Posted by UWM on Dec-03-2002 04:39:

I was just stating that basing his mixing off of his radio shows might be a mistake since it is all done by computer programs. NOTHING manual.

well this is also pretty popular. its much easier for a DJ to do an EM by sending a tracklist and letting someone else do it - Oakie isnt the only guilty one! in fact most EMs are done this way unless they are pulled from a gig prior, and then the manual mixing needs to be near flawless or else they wouldnt use it.

im not necessarily FOR comp mixing...its not really as easy as pushing a button, and a bad trainwreck can piss me the hell off. if its on a CD i own or my computer, id rather listen to a flawless comp mix than pure shit...

i fully understand and am just expounding on what youve said|

Amen to that!! I get so sick of these Oakey is back threads, I mean since when did he leave. You mean because an artist tries to new things and experiements with realms of music other than ure favorite all of a sudden their garbage? I think not maybe he's starting to play some 99 esque stuff but to constantly change from Oakey blows to Oakeys back threads and atittudes quite frankly is sickening. Ive been an Oakey fan since 98 and havent changed since. Now dont get me wrong im not trying to say i love everything he does, i didnt lie bunkka as much as the next guy buy as a fan understand artist will and desire to experiment. Now that hes done with this lil phase hes ready to reclaim his throne as number one. You all shall see.

By the way a great set to download this year is his creamfields i cant simply say enough about that magical set!!!!!

Posted by teo on Dec-03-2002 09:40:

aah..oakey...i saw him back in september...he was good i could say but not as good as he used to be...he spun things like beauty never fades, obsession, magic impulse...and at the end couple of olde trance tracks...well of course i was a little bit dissapointed i was hoping for a more trancy set, but my prog-fun friends liked it a lot...

to u trance-addicts dont expect to much..he will spin his usual prog. shit and u will be dissapointed by his mixing(im sure for that)...

later...

The past 2 State Side live sets from Oakenfold have been incredible (10-5-02, 9-11-02). This is Oakenfold of old. However, what da hell is he doing spinning with a live band? Do I really want to spend $40 through Ticketshafter to see him spin a set for only 1 hour, and then play with a band for another hour or so (actually, I won't be spending any money, since I'll be handing out flyers and seein' it for free, but hey, that's beside the point!). Good thing Hernan Cattaneo is opening up. That will make up for it.

Oakenfold apologists have consistently stated that he is merely "trying new things", or is "going a different direction". While I would like to buy that, I tend to see a different picture, one with a $ sign in it. It's pretty obvious he sees a financial jackpot here in the U.S., and knows that pop music is the popular taste here (unfortunately). So he's going the way of Moby (which he sadly toured with last summer), and sees himself as a future MTV icon. Bless his cracked out little heart, I'm sure he means well, but he really should stick to his guns, get his nose out of the shit, do what he does best and get back to his old form (which was seemingly evidenced in these State Side mixes). I really think he'll probably come full circle, and realize where his true form is. Just think how much of a following he'd gather if he came back to his old ways of acid trance.....

Posted by UWM on Dec-05-2002 18:21:

Hey man, if you could come make a huge gathering in the states and pull in millions of dollars you would do it in a second.

Do you think my toothless, poverty-stricken arse is going to argue that? I agree with you fully. But since da man already has oodles of cash flow, why change his style when it was such a success? I know he's trying to get more of a following, but in my opinion, I think he'd make a better name for himself as well as the electronica scene as a whole if he shyed away from pop, and kept to his Trance guns. God knows we have enough pop culture over here. I really don't want to see someone I admire fall into this pop pit over here in the U.S. because of $, when he can represent the dance culture so much better with his original flavor of music.

I dunno. It's easy to criticize the decisions of those with $ when I have none. Kinda like the corporate CEO scandals over here. Strange.

I would give ANYTHING to hear his remix of Staring at the Sun
live.

ANYTHING

oakey sux like a dyson! always will!

Posted by George Kendall on Dec-05-2002 23:58:

Yup oakeys lost it and its never coming back

Posted by BLATTMAN on Dec-06-2002 01:15:

i just saw him live in NYC the night before thanksgiving...ive seen him 3 years in a row on thanksgiving. The first one was unfuckingbelievable. the 2nd one was OK, pretty disappointing though, and this one was a little better than the 2nd but nowhere near as good as the first. He spins way too much progressive stuff. I guess we are all jsut used to the old stuff liek waht was on tranceport, and we expect that from him everytime. He has a lot of talent, because we have seen that. But he sure as hell doesnt use it anymore. He is showing signs of life, but hes going to have to do a much better job to get his name anywhere near my top 10 again
