Uplifting Trance Vs. Prog Trance or House watever u wanna call it!

This war has gone on long enough, and after that horrible PvD thread mess, i was driven to ask the question Epic Vs Prog. Its time for a fuck the bs vote right now. Plus i would jus like to see how many of us 13,000 Ta's listen to epic and how many of us listen to prog. So i cast the first stone, my vote is for epic trance!!!

P.S. some of u may say its pointless or been done but i just want to say i dont give a shit, i wanna know, so if ure to high and mighty for this thread dont post.

yo vanfecto...much respect.
u know me...i dig oakenfold tooo..

but thing is epic trance has gotten a bad name...ermm cheese.

id call it euphoric trance

only artists i listen to in depth
oliver lieb
matt darey
michael woods

subpar
pvd/tiesto/avb

par
corsten

crap
(insert here)

i like progressive....hell look at my recent favs...but fact of the matter is..5 yrs from now..i wont be able to turn on a prog tune and like it..IT bores me after a while.
The sounds are complex and i like...but its overall depth and heart does not compare to the soul of trance(QUALITY trance dammnit)

just like tranceseeker..psi..etc would come in here defending the almighty prog boook of thoughts

ill come in here and rant about the real trance....THE FUKIN REAL TRANCE !!!!

still have a spot for prog in my heart.....but trance willl never fade way

I seem to get pretty bored by this progressive vs. trance thing..

Let everyone listen to his own favourites... djeezz..

On-topic: my vote goes to progressive (as one could expect maybe)..

That took a lot of thought, good work my friend

And, I'd have to say that currently my vote would go for epic/uplifting trance!!!!!

Posted by SanduTje on Dec-05-2002 10:05:

I think this thread will end up like a big flame-war just like the PvD thread.

So i suggest ignoring the ones who provoke that.

I agree. There's no need to fuel this prog vs. trance battle. I like both altho I listen more to progressive/house.
I don't wanna choose sides. It's not an 'either your with us or against us'-sort of thing.. Trance is great, so are other forms of music. I try to appreciate as much as possible.

Posted by ManWithNoName on Dec-05-2002 10:29:

why argue when it is clear that both genres are so much better than rock, pop, county, jazz etc

Posted by burns on Dec-05-2002 10:42:

Bedrocks going down down down down

Im staying out of this one

Every man for himself

Personally, I perfer progressive house. I dunno why but I just can't stop listening to it. I don't mind trance every now and then though. Btw, Oakenfold is a good progressive DJ, but, in my opionion, a shit producer now. Just my personal tastes.

look at my current favorites, j00 decide!

Prgo is good while Trance moves your soul

Hey i dont think anyone is against PROG here, i think its nice to listen but with prog its just like any other genre of music like rock, rnb or breaks....there are good tracks and the good tracks are good....
But these listed genres hasnt got the depth and complexity that epic/uplifting trance music possesses...trance music moves people with or without drugs in a different way to other genres of music

READ MY SIG it explains it all

I don't see how that explains anything.

my vote also goes to upliftin trance/epic
i've tried prog, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Posted by Prototrance on Dec-05-2002 18:01:

Am I like the only person here who like trance and prog (all forms)???? What I listen to/go clubbing to depends on my mood.

P.S - Bedrock - I dont say this much but you really are a **** and I think you should seriously consider leaving tranceaddict coz all I ever see you do is start arguments.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Dec-05-2002 18:11:

What does it really matter what we like most?
I don't see the any point in this thread.

No, I'm right there with you. I like both as well, although I tend to think I'm starting to lean more to the prog. end. There's still a lot of killer trance out there, but the bells, whistles, synths., and vocals tend to sound all the same after a number of years. However, PVD's mix on 16-8-02 threw my ass right back into Trance for awhile.

I dunno really. Last weekend, Dave Aude came through town and threw down a helluva great dirty house/prog. set that was just beautiful! A little while ago, Hyper came to town and showed me a side of Breaks that I didn't know existed, and was 20x better than his stuff on his Bedrock CD. Variety is key. I'd love to have a good Trance DJ come through my way. Tiesto's coming to Denver here in a few days, but there's no way I can make it out there.

Posted by Prototrance on Dec-05-2002 18:17:

Right we better stick together mate, coz everyone else is totally divided!!
I just like variety in dance music. And I respect innovation which is why I like prog'.
Also coz I love dance music so much I listen to all the sub-layers in tracks, which is what prog is about, it's not as Obvious as trance.
Then sometimes prog isnt enough, and its on with the huge synths and huuuuuuge breakdowns.

Like I said before, depends on the mood.

There was already a poll in the music related polls section.

It stands at:

Prog 4
Melodic 30
Both 28
Neither 2

I prefer melodic most of the time, but generally have the ability to appreciate both.
