it's all about the locals.
I just wanna talk about how much talent the locals have in oz. From house to uplifting trance to drum n bass to techno to breaks to prog to psy we have it all. these guys and gals are world class and everyone should slam down their $5 to $15 to support these guys and in some casses they play for free. umpteenth times the lcoal tear the shreads of the int's and deserve respect alot more than everyone gives them.
next time when a tiesto or dave seaman comes to town and u throw $60 to $90 down the shitter think about the talent we have here Right here Right now! because if you dont support these guys all you will ever see is the fine imported crap that comes from overseas.
I agree
I have quite varied tastes (mostly like trance) but on most nights can quite easily listen to DnB, House, Trance, Tek, Prog or Breaks. About the only thing I can't 'tolerate' for any substantial period of time is HipHop, sorry it just does nothing but frustrate and piss me off
I have had some great nights listening to DnB at Scubar in Lonsdale St and some nice Breaks at The Lounge in Swanston St. Some smooth minimal electro has also been heard at Troika in Lt Collins (I think).
Props to ALL the Melb DJs

yes! good thread! i completely agree!
Agreed.
Except I'm still gonna throw my $60-$90 down the shitter to see the likes of Dave Seaman. Just cause most int's are also awsome!
agreed, ben korbel for example.......

I agree. I think the only difference is the record selection. Im of the opinion that any clowns can get two beats to play at the same time if they practice long and hard enough. However they wont have the same selection of records as an international has.
Yep, agreed. Melbourne's techno DJs are the equal of anything I've heard, and Sean Quinn can throw down some world-class prog sets (pity he doesn't do it often enough... Summadayze and TT2002 were excellent tho).
Totally agreed, i love listening to local talent cause like hello they are here and sum new dj's that have recently moved from Bedroom Banger's status to playing to a live crowd, like the talent is supreme!!!
I don't mind seeing local acts, but when you have a choice of going to see Ferry or Tiesto or Armin for example, like hello the GOD's!!!!
You surely can't blame us...
Its like saying i rather go out with the nerd rather than the cheerleader... like hello!!
And noo im not saying DJ's are sluts.. or Cheerleaders.. ohhh you know what i meant!!!
my fav locals.
ben korbs.

Canberra has some pretty cool DJs that also do a lot of promoting of gigs and stuff.
Phil K was down a couple of weeks ago (or maybe it was last weekend ,hrm), and I enjoyed Jeff Drake's set after him better than his set.
The decent regulars that play all around the place are:
Ryan Pappa
Jeff Drake
Chris Fraser
Nash T
Saw Ben Korbel down here sometime recently (this friday night, hrm?). He played a interesting mix of breaks and hard house and some melodic stuff in there as well. A chick I met there who was down from sydney mentioned that he plays at sounds on sunday @ greenwood just about every week, so it sounds like I'll be catching up with her soon for some Ben Korbell and Kid Kenobi action.
Scot Alien is good, and i hear Tigger plays Acid Techno. Haven't heard any of his sets though.

Definately agree with you on this one, alot of melbournes talent is world class.. and many times have i enjoyed a locals set alot more than an international guest.
I don't go to TT etc just for the 'names'! I actually prefer to go to these 'raves' as I prefer the lg arenas, huge lasers lots of space!
I do agree that we have the best talent here in Oz, however I won't go to see them regualary while they are playing in small smokey pokey clubs!
locals!!!
steve strangis & dave begic!!!

I'd been up since 5am the previous morning and had a 12 hour very busy shift at work, was awake until I got home at 1pm, went out big last night / this morning too, so my recollection of this weekend is somewhat hazy. |
Ben Korbel..Hard House?..................haaaaaaaaaahahahhahahhahahahhahahahhahaahah
korbs would never spin hh'''./
now the term that most 'suits him is smooth melodic progressive....with bouts of 'driving' proggy house..

The "locals" are crap in sydney save the bunch down in altitude and even they've got limited access to the real stuff.
No i'm afraid i'm not a big fan of the "locals"
