Love is in the air Does anybody have a vinyl addiction?

For some reason all my extra money goes to vinyls. Its a habit that I can't seem to quit. My food money, gas money, and worst of all, girlfriend-go-out money, all goes to new vinyls. What the fuck is my problem.

peace,

Steve

ONE TIME I DIDN'T BUY BEER I BOUGHT A RECORD INSTEAD. YOU KNOW YOU HAVE AN ADDICTION WHEN VINYL TAKES AWAWY FROM YOUR ALCOHOLISM!!!!!!!!!!1

Posted by Steven Hays on Mar-04-2003 02:57:

No, check this shit out. I am a grand in debt in a credit card, I have a brand new Dell computer that needs to be paid at least a grand more, and I'm 300 in debt on my Structure credit card. I would so have all them paid off and some money to spare if I had no vinyl. I've been spinnin' for like 7 months now and fuck, I have almost 200 records. The shitty thing is, I only play maybe like 30 out of em all. I'm doing a medical drug study to pay off my debt right. It pays really well, and I encourage everyone to do it at least once. And whats even more fucked up....I'm thinking about the $1200 I'm gonna get and spend it all on music, and not my credit card debt. But I doubt I will be that stupid.

peace,

Steve

Haha, a medical drug study to pay off debts? Now that's what I call an addiction. But damn, $1200 for it, I don't blame you! And yes vinyl purchasing is definitely an addiction. I keep a notepad file where I have all of the vinyl listed I wanna buy. I'll buy like 20 records, take them off the list and within a week it's larger than it was to begin with! I need to put gas in my car sometime this week, yet I'm wondering whether to skip a class to save on gas so I can purchase another record!

We should start a VinylAddiction Support Group...haha

you know what man? i suggest you stop buying vinyl. I am in a similar situation to you, been spinning since the summer when i got my decks. Except i only have about 50-60 records. After buying my initial learning records, (which are actually really good tunes, i will never get rid of and am very careful with) i promised myself i wouldn't buy any more vinyl until I was out of debt.

it was HARD! my buddy came and gave me a sob story about travelling to brazil and he needed to sell his sampler, so i bought that for $300 off of him. then my girlfriend got our MD player stolen, so i needed to buy another one of those for $320. numerous other shit came up that i just HAD to have (snowboard boots, hotel reserveations etc). but you know what? finally, just TODAY, i paid off my whole credit card $1200! I'm so happy, now i can finally go buy a big stack of vinyl!

seriously man, pay off those cards, starting with the highest interest rate first, and THEN indulge in luxuries.

while you wait, start digging through your crate and memorizing your tracks, i bet you haven't even played some of them!

Hi...my name is Steve...and I too am a vinyholic!

This is good guys. I look around this thread, and I see courage. And that courage gives me strength. Together, we can change ourselves. We can overcome these obstacles.

Now, lets pair together and tell our stories.

Posted by Steven Hays on Mar-04-2003 04:40:

I tell you what pisses me off most about buying vinyls. The instances where I have the money or lack of for the matter to buy them, and the day after I buy them, a couple new releases come out the next day. Grrrrrrrr....so I go back and buy them too...LOL

Mmm..Once, I did not go out drinking with my friends because I wanted to use the money I would've spent to buy some new vinyls.
Being a vinylholic is curing my alcoholism...hehe..so its not such a bad thing after all.

i think this is a rethorical question.

I totally am a vinyl addict but that happens to you as soon as you get your tables but you gotta admit its a kick ass hobby, beats wasting your money on drugs(not that im a drgy lol) or books for school ..

btw i haven't bought a vinyl in so long, mother fucking debts.

LOL! I do the same thing!

Posted by Phu on Mar-04-2003 07:37:

Sometimes i even save my money up and don't eat just to buy vinyl and i have about 1000-1200 vinyls. I've invested about $25.000 dollars on vinyl. Now thats an addiction.

Posted by Tony Morello on Mar-04-2003 07:46:

my problem is the other way around
now i spend more money on having fun than buying records
but i went through a phase liek that when i first started, buying records whenever i had any cash
i figured if i'm not going to be playing out all the time, no need for the latest tunes, i'd buy a couple new records a month... this way i know the records i have inside and out
but now that i'm starting to get gigs i'm going to start buying records on a regular basis now

Posted by payne on Mar-04-2003 09:36:

yep im an addict too

My plan was to not set foot in a record store this week because i needed my money for car rego and paying off parking/speeding fines... Yesterday i stopped off on the way home and bought a few, couldn't help myself

Not that i'm a druggie either, but i spend ALOT less on substances because i'm always thinking of the number of records i could buy with that money

Hi I'm James, and I'm a vinyl addict too.

When I realise that I really really love a track I have as an mp3, just out of interest I go to juno or chemical and see if they have it... then I get anxious to buy it up because I figure I might not have the chance to do so if I wait around! This has gone on for the last 7 or 8 months and I now have about 80 vinyls.

I DON'T EVEN HAVE DECKS.

Posted by clubsolutely on Mar-04-2003 23:13:

guilty

yes im a vinyl addict too... if theres a new track around and i like it.. i will open juno and buy it! can't help it damn it.
i have now 200+ records.

of course.. that's not really a support group, rather where we brag about our addictions i guess... sorta like alcoholics gathering to say "oh yeah, i drank a 40 of rum, standing on my head!"

Posted by JayKuE on Mar-05-2003 02:11:

yes, it does take courage to step forward and admit of having this disease. i suggest we all put on a brave face and now hold hands. *grin*

i've only had my decks for about a month, but have splurged in the wax since to now own 50 vinyls. like most of you, i'm spending whatever moolah i have in my wallet in the record store. its such an indescribable feeling, walking out with a nice new tune, or 2, or 3, or hell even 10, in your hands. but what johnsmith says is right, if you're having trouble financially, you should settle with the purchasing, spin and memorise ur tunes a lot more. think you should only buy the tunes that ur absolutely love too. steve, u say u only spin 30 of ur records? why not, sell the ones you don't spin to buy more that ur sure u will spin?

cheerio

im addicted to vinyl aswell....unfortunately, i have almost no cash to spend on vinyl, so i used to write down vinyl i wanted on a bunch of index cards. recently, i typed em all into an excel document to categorize them by producer, or label....i have just over 100 on my list so far....but every day, the list grows
