Questions to the Canadians ordering Vinyls from the UK

Is there any way around paying the Canada Customs handling fee and tax, when they deliver your records? I see on their site that you do not have to pay any fee if the goods are under $20 CDN which chaps my ass as i've got 14 records coming for th UK.

Do I suck it up and live with this fee?

I wonder how come the records compaines just dont but the price for all the records as like 1 doller. I heard that groovetech does that but i'm not intirely sure.

Because if they do that, your package will be worth $1, therefore when it gets lost well you know...

anyways my buddy always asks bangingtunes.com to put gift on it and your custom fee will be free! I dont know about other companies.

Posted by mikefasssy on Mar-28-2003 07:21:

well, i have been testing chemical, if you order 7+ records, customs has open the package all three times, they didn't for for a 3 record package, and i am testing a 5 package right now!!

that gift thing sounds interesting.........

Posted by Mark on Mar-28-2003 09:41:

chemical never have custom fees to pay for anymore. apparently they worked out some deal with our postal services or something and that their packages go straight through. atleast thats what i've been told by brisky who posted that info on this board a few months back.

as for other companies? suck it up and pay for it. there is no way around it. jordan, that 14 vinyl order is going to cost you some coin.

Posted by trancearmada on Mar-28-2003 12:53:

for me it's been random, I would get a package of 20 records and not have to pay anything at all, sometimes I get a package of 2 records and they still charge me the customs fee and tax.

but don't forget about the NAFTA & Groovetech.... NAFTA being the free trade for North America so technically u are not suposed to pay anything for a package comin from the States

Same with me. Whoever said that Chemical goes straight through, that's not true, I ordered 10 records a month ago or so and got slapped with a customs charge.

But then again, most of the time I don't get charged with Chemical.

HUH? I just ordered 5 vinyls from the States 2 weeks ago and got a $14 customs charge... what gives?

EDIT: and I was wondering about it too! I thought, "what about that Free Trade dealio?"

ok, i'll ask again, how much was the fee for those 10 records?

The thing that pisses me off most, if that it's so random. Why pay sometimes and not others?

Posted by mikefasssy on Mar-29-2003 07:40:

yea it works out to about 2.50 per vinyl.

yeah I talked to a rep yesteraday at Canada Post and she said that no matter where the package comes from if it's valued more than $20 in value most of the times there will be customs charges (always had to pay $5 charge to the customs for them to open the package, those bastards make a fortune on it) + GST + PST.

I don't get charged duty on orders on Only-DJs for some reason. But everywhere else yes.

On a side note, has anybody noticed now that the war has started it is taking alot longer to get records from Europe.

Posted by Joca on Mar-30-2003 01:53:

I've ordered from Dancegrooves twice andI haven't been charged any fee yet. Dancegrooves and Only-dj's are both located in Holland so maybe that has something to do with it.

Posted by Mark on Mar-30-2003 02:16:

you will get an invoice from PBB very soon if you ordered from dancegrooves.

Posted by Joca on Mar-30-2003 05:46:

PBB?

i think you're thinking of the deal or whatever they made so we dont' have to pay european taxes when we order vinyl

i don't really understand all that mumbo jumbo

i just know that i want my vinyls to get here asap...
ordered on the 24th and i need them here by the 12th...stupid war

last time i ordered on a monday and they came 11 days later (the next friday)
is this normal for chemical? that's the only other time ive ordered from them...

no, i'm talking about customs. i've ordered from chemical well over 20+ times. they never charge you VAT just like juno doesn't. again, its not about the VAT, its about the duties you pay.

Same here... the only time i haven't been charged $$ for customs is when i ordered from Dancegrooves.
Last chemical for 5 records: $8 customs.

I've never got a bill from PBB, when i order from Dancegrooves, and i've ordered a few times from them now going back a few months.

yeah that's really weird, cause I had like 6 orders coming in all from www.only-djs.com all within a month and I only paid a customs charge on one package only! this was all last month...

Posted by Mark on Apr-01-2003 01:13:

i think only the people working there can answer these questions. i haven't gotten away from PBB once. 3 orders from DG and 3 invoices from PBB. chemical on the other hand, i had no trouble with duties since june of last year. since then, i've had atleast 15+ orders from there and only 1 had taken unreasonably long to arrive and it still had no extra charges. juno is just dependant on order size or how often you order from there from my experience. perhaps this is based purely on luck.

Anybody know what prices are associated with bringing 8 vynals from juno.co.uk? I mean, what is ALL the fees that you get charged?!

$5 CAD - Customs charge
+ GST + PST

so:
5 + (x (0.15)) = y

x - being the initial value of the package
y - being the final dutties due to customs
