James Brown is Dead - LA Style ?

Maybe i'm showing my age, but I think James Brown is Dead - LA Style should go there. I don't recall if it came out in 91 or 92. Moreover, i'm not sure if it is trance, however you want to define it, but it was a pretty popular club/dance tune back then. It's your call. I'll suggest some older one's after i take my afternoon nap.

yeah dude, Pearl River is absolutely fucking incredible, that's getting a new remix too :O

1988: The KLF- What Time Is Love?

First trance record ever. And whoever said Last Train to Trancentral, that should be 1989.

Posted by phil6875 on Nov-27-2004 13:13:

Two more candidates

An absolute classic that should have been in the list by now,

Renegade Legion - 'Weeping Waste'

another classic by the same guy

Lunatic Asylum - 'The Meltdown'

both Sven Vath favorites from the 'classic' trance era 1992/3

Posted by josh rising on Nov-27-2004 15:26:

Thats a good list but damn you guys are still missing these:

1993:
Grace - Not Over Yet (Original Mix)
N-Trance - Set You Free

1998:
Kristine Blond - Love Shy

1999:
Lost Witness - Happiness Happening
Lost Witness - Red Sun Rising

2000:
Astroline - Close My Eyes

Glad to see Pearl River is finally getting some recognition though, one of my alltime favorites too.

Energy 52 - State of Mind

From 1991 I think...

Posted by Radagast on Nov-29-2004 20:35:

Let's do this thing. Add all, add some, or add none, it matters little to me. Just know that the first half of your list deserves twice as many listings as the second half, not the other way around.

You do not definde "classic" from a personal point of view. A classic all trance made before 1994, and all tracks that sound like classic trance after 1994. So if you wanted a list of classics you would add my entire list, but that's up to you.

Corrections: It's Caspar Pound not Casper Pound on Union Jack - TFMAAT, and Astral Projection - Mahadeva was released in 1995, not 1996. Dance 2 Trance - Power Of American Natives was released in 1992, not 1993. Also, you have Man With No Name - Sugar Rush listed twice in 1994 and 1996.

Better to have a gratuitous bumb, rather than another classic thread.

Indeed it did.

And "Flaming June" is from 1997, not 98.

Some classics from my personal point of view I'd add:

1992:
Cosmic Baby - Heavens Tears
The Visions Of Shiva - Perfect Day
Taucher - Happiness

1993:
Zyon - No Fate
The Visions Of Shiva - How Much Can You Take?
Sven Vath - L'esperanza
Paragliders - Bagdad
Art Of Trance - Gloria

1994:
Jens - Loops & Tings
Salt Tank - Eugina
Cosmic Baby - Fantasia
Man With No Name - Sugar Rush
X Cabs - Neuro
Way Out West - Ajare

1995:
Grace - Not Over Yet
Sunday Club - Paladian Dawn
Beat Foundation - Foundations
Sian - Dreams
Man With No Name - Floor Essence

1996:
Amethyst - Futura
Transa - Prophase (X Cabs Remix One)
Moonman - Galaxia
Moonman - Don't Be Afraid
Ariel - Deep
Fade - Heaven To Heaven
Chicane - Offshore
BBE - Seven Days & One Week
Digital Blondes - Antheum
Andy Ling - Anuna
Heliotropic - Walk With Me

1997:
Chakra - Home
The Space Brothers - Shine
Fade - No Resolve
Sunday Club - Healing Dream
Disco Citizens - Footprint
Qattara - Come With Me
Jayn Hanna - Lost Without You (Evolution Main Mix)
Lustral - Everytime (Nalin & Kane Remix)
Amethyst - The Tempest
X Cabs - Engage
LSG - Hidden Sun Of Venus
Johnny Shaker - Pearl River
BBE - Flash
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster
Loveclub - The Journey (Trouser Enthusiasts Remix)

I took this list randomly from the top of my head so I'e missed out a lot of them. I have many all time favourites from 1997, but most are probably too obscure to put in a list of "Trance Classics".

mate u know ur shit!!! all about moonman!

Posted by Peter K on Dec-01-2004 00:46:

Radagast is that a serious post??
Those aren't classics, they're merely tracks that s small majority of trance fans like.

Posted by ImadeTrance on Dec-01-2004 04:48:

I also love that Transa's Behind the sun song..i think it was 1998.

I'll go so far as to say that you're an idiot, and far from a trance fan. You don't know what a classic is. It doesn't matter how many people like it because the large majority of trance fans are ignorant fools like you. A small majority of trance fans like J.M. Silk - All In Vain, Rhythim Is Rhythim - Strings Of Life, Inner City - Good Life, or any of the tracks I posted, but that doesn't mean they're not classics. It means you don't like them. Reply when you know what you're talking about. The latter year tracks I listed are more classic than the others in the same years listed earlier because they actually sound like real classic trance.

Most of the tracks in the original list are listed because a large majority of pop fans like them, not because they're classic. Try that one on for size, spivey.

yes you are an idiot

Posted by Floorfiller on Dec-01-2004 05:30:

i'll have to agree with radgast on this one...

he may be an asshole...but he's got pretty good taste in music...just because you don't like these tunes...well...they are still classics...

Posted by Radagast on Dec-01-2004 05:50:

An asshole with good reason. I've almost literally spent the past two years of my life looking up (real) classic trance once I realized what an idiot I was prior. Fueled by the former love of a genre which had become lifeless to me I began a search for reasons why. I come here and i've got people who don't know what Two Full Moons And A Trout is trying to tell me what and what is not a classic. Added to the fact that it is extremely frustrating to look up an extinct underground form of music, it becomes increasingly grating to hear.
