okay, ry... you've expressed it enough - WE GET IT.

every other week nevio has had the night off, and we've seen you at the club how many of those nights? exactly.

Okay jon, we've re-arranged the lineup for this week - and you are the opening dj instead of Nevio!

oh wait, opening slot isn't worth your time.... i forgot.

BAHAHAHAH

Posted by jon jon on Aug-01-2006 14:09:

Jeff, are you seriously slagging the clubs clientele for pointing out the obvious? You have the biggest uphill battle defending Nevio's opening sets.

Like as if he'd be opening for Dj Vibe if he wasn't the owner of the club.

edit: lol the truth hurts

If you noticed, when the comments began pouring in from random TA's (most of which, had attended the club once since opening), i held back and didn't say anything. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if they feel the music isn't up to par then of course - speak up, and let it be known. Now, it has become overkill - somewhat of a joke, or a cool thing to say/bitch about. At the end of the day, Nevio is a friend and a work associate. The guy has put an incredible amount of himself (physically and financially) into this venue, and the constant attacks I feel are becoming a little bit over the top.

so what? if a baseball player works his ass off day in a day out but everytime he steps up to the plate he strikes out what happens? buddy get's sent to the minors. the amount of work nevio has put in is completely irrelevant.

the club is a business.

the business is tunes.

the tunes suck.

i'm sorry jeff, a change needs to be made immediately.

and for the record...i do not think i am any bit cooler for saying nevio sucks.

I respect that, but as the saying goes "it's nothing personal, it's business". Booking yourself to open for Dj Vibe could maybe be a mistake? And maybe our comments (which to be fair are NO different than us ripping on the Guv, TiL or anyone else) could be warranted.

Jeff, I don't think it's an attack against his character, but more against his sets. I respect Nevio for putting all the effort that he did into starting Sonic, but his effort doesn't mean much to me when I don't even go to the club that often anymore because I don't want to have to endure another one of his sets. This is coming from someone who waited almost 3 hours in line on opening night, was a regular at the old club, was more excited than anyone for the club to open, and went to the new club every weekend for the first 5 weeks in a row. This is not coming from someone who has gone to the club only once.

When it comes down to it, people are going to the club to hear good tunes, not sit there and endure Nevio's sub-par sets because he's a "nice guy". I don't think people are bashing Nevio because it's the cool thing to do, but more because they want a better opening DJ for the sake of the club.

you hit the nail right on the head with this.

we want sonic to survive and thrive....

Posted by DigDeep on Aug-01-2006 14:25:

In no way do we need explainations as to why you guys feel the way that you do. I'm just saying, all of you have already expressed your feelings multiple times in other thread - and posting things in massive bold font, is doing nothing but beating the subject to death.

If you guys are doing this to infact help the club 'thrive and survive' how about being productive, and suggesting other possible opening dj's? This would definately support your claim that you are doing it for the good of the club.

Doing that would be futile given all the political BS that goes on behind the scenes. Who knows who's actually allowed to play at Sonic?

Come on Graham. If this was the case, wouldn't it make this entire thread pointless? Many people suggested Lawler to play Sonic, but we know he plays Guvernment when he is in Toronto. If people truly wanted better talent to tend to opening duties at Sonic, they would suggest those who they felt were worthy.

off the top of my head, I'm really feeling Teeloo's Kitchen and Johnny Digits at the moment.

Nathan?

This is going to sound hysterical, but Ry Diggs? lol I think he's sick.

I actually never put a lot of thought into it...

edit: Copeland even?

Ok, that edit/repost tripped me out for a good few minutes, lol.
