So lemme get this straight...

- TiL is too pretentious and stuck up
- Guv has too many sketched out asians and is too packed all the time
- Fly has way too many Gay guys
- Lot 332 and Mink are too poshy and mainstream
- CoZo is too scary and sketchy
- Money, Republik and any other clubs that don't play your style of music are no good to you

- SONIC, on grand opening night no less, had a huge line-up, was a little disorganized and too many gay guys

If I was a club owner I would be pulling my hair out right now. This city is full of nothing but whiners and little kids that have too many toys to play with but yet still want more. What more do you people want? I always here people saying "why can't we have clubs like Ibiza, Miami, New York, Montreal...."....guess what people???

DAVID MORALES IS BRINGING US THAT CLUB!!!

I guess the real question is, is Toronto ready or even want that kind of club? I know I do, and I know about 2000 people last Saturday night do. It seems everyone wants everything to be there way, all the time and the minute something goes against what they want, they bitch and complain...but yet still go back to the same club week in and week out??? If you seem to find yourself constantly picking apart a club instead of enjoying the music...maybe you're better off staying at home in your basement and listening to mixed CD's you've made.

Is it any wonder that Danny Tenaglia vowed he would never play in Toronto again after Industry closed? Maybe because that was the last time Toronto has seen a true afterhours club. And does it not make sence that the man behind Boa, which got Danny T back to Toronto, is also now the talent coordinator at Sonic? Makes you think that someone actually might know what they're doing and are damn good at it.

Sonic is bringing us the afterhours experience, amazing international talent, the best Toronto local resident and doing it all in a slick as hell atmosphere with an unparalelled sound system. There is going to be gay guys, straight guys, shirtless guys,...it,s gonna be packed, there will be lines at times....but for god's sake people...it's gonna be the best club in the city....that is if you truly understand the music and everything that comes with it.

Here is a picture Victor at Crobar Miami - March 26, 2006

where did you get these pictures?

i was at this party. didn't really notice it that much.

only one point was bad.

Well, the complainers who left early are well - complaining, and that was the first round of reviews I saw.

Now, I guess the people who stuck it out and liked it are finnaly posting reviews now that they have recovered, as I've read quite a few good ones

I loved the old boa, and the old space. And by the sounds of it - Sonic is even better than that now, cant wait to check it out for C&C and making this my 2nd home for the upcomming summer months if they continue to bring in DJs I want to see.

In the front, it wasn't too bad but if you walked straight back through the crowd, it was shirtless mafia night. Hence, thinking RJ was a smart wabbit for taking us up front via the sidebar.

Carwash or no carwash, it's tunes! How many dudes out there would go apeshit if they saw a chick dancing in her bra at a club? It's not like the guys are grinding up against you on purpose to slather you in sweat. Just give a polite tap on the shoulder and you can get by easily.

I don't think this is homophobic issue - there are straight guys aplenty who wander shirtless. But being doused in sweat by an accidentally stumbly person I don't know - makes it feel like the sweat is an alien lifeform gluing itself to my body. Friendly sweat is so much less invasive because we know where that sweat has been, you dig?

sounds like you need to avoid not only nightclubs, but the general public all together. get a grip.

Wow, been really interesting reading this review thread. I think a lot of people that went and had something to complain about may not know what an afterhours place is really like. I dunno. I'm sorry I couldn't have made it out, but anyone who is expecting perfection on opening night may be pushing it a little. I can't wait 'till C&C. Will there be enough tix at the door?

As most people know, I was very, very excited about this party for a long time. Clubbing has just not been the same to me since Carey left Boa. I think things are about to pick up again.

The night started off with a very annoying 2.5 hour wait in line. The line was pandemonium. There was one time when the crowd started chanting/screaming "BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT!". Everyone was very upset. Looking back on things now, it was stupid of me to neglect to buy a ticket considering it was the opening night. If I had bought one, I don't think I would have waited as long as I did.

There was some bribery of the bouncers and some shady selling of "VIP tickets" by bouncers outside of the club. It will be interesting to see if this continues.

Upon finally entering the club, I was dissapointed to see yet another line waiting for me - the line to get searched. This is the one things about the club that must be changed ASAP. There was a big huddle of people waiting to get searched on the platform and on the stairs. Given how upset people were about the line outside, there was yelling and even some pushing and shoving. If someone fell, it would have created quite the nasty domino effect. It's a wonder nothing happened.

I entered the club at 3.30am and was pleasently surprised to see that it wasn't shoulder-to-shoulder packed like I thought it would be. I was annoyed by the line, but when I looked around me and saw smiles on everyone's faces, I quickly forgot the whole ordeal.

Frankie was good, but not as good as I was expecting him to be. He played some good tunes, but I would say that I only enjoyed about 1/3 of the songs I heard him play.

Once David hit the decks, it only took the build-up of his first song to kick the party into high gear. After the first track, I knew it would be a night to remember.

David played completely different than I expected him to play. I thought he was going to play lots of diva "lullaby" house, but how wrong I was. His first 2 hours were hard and banging and tribal tunes. My favourite part of his set was (I think) around 10.30-11.30am when he started playing what I like to call scary/bojangled tunes . I've been searching for this one song that he played that I know is burried somewhere in my database of music.

From about 11.30am-12.30pm, he played the slower, dreamy diva house that I expected him to play all night. At this point in the morning, it was actually nice to hear that. I spent that time sitting down and chatting, enjoying the more relaxing tunes (harder tunes would have been better though. ).

It was nice to hear Danny Tenaglia - D'Ibiza a few times, and that one song that keeps repeating "yes he is!". It almost sounds like a Gospel song. Can anyone ID it for me? Morales played it twice and Nevio played it once after Morales played.

I now know why so many people think highly of this DJ. That was an AMAZING set.

The crowd was awesome. Gays, straights, shirt, or no shirt - EVERYONE was having a great time.

Thank you to everyone responsible to this club. It is great to be home.

I can see myself spending the majority of my club nights at this club.

what's the difference between getting slimed by a shirtless guy or a guy who has sweat right through his shirt?

Personally, I don't want clubs like Ibiza, New York, or Miami. I want clubs like Toronto....we have our own scene here and the clubs should reflect our scene and not the scene in other places.

there you go, one less person in line for Sonic - have fun in the other clubs budy.

So as far as I can see, after reading some much, it is true what they are saying "Sonic is Stereo on Steroids". Take care of it guys, everyone knows how much we love Stereo in Montreal, and I really hope Sonic becomes your new home in Toronto.

and don't worry about the people that don't like to sweat in the dance floor ... oh who cares, those people will stop going to Sonic, and I'm sure they will not be missed.

...Welcome home Toronto...

For sure...I'll be the first one to admit that there has been times when I should be including myself with the complainers. But I also know that if I do leave a club pissed off, I also try to see if there was something I could've done to prevent it from happening. Saturday night for example, maybe I should've gotten there earlier, or, maybe I should've boughten an advance ticket. But on the other hand, after the line up and confusion I experienced at TiL for Deepdish, I kinda was ready for what I was walking into that night. And to be totally honest with you, the clubs that I have bitched about in the past I simply don't go to anymore unless they are bringing in a DJ I really wanna see or I am going for friends...either way I know what I'm getting myself and accept the club for what it is now.

Then I Guess you would have more fun at the rest of the clubs and shouldn't attend Sonic.

oh I think you miss understand me. I will be in line for Sonic....I just want the clubs in Toronto to have a Toronto feel to them....we don't need to try and be a Miami or Ibiza....I would like to see places like Miami and New York say they want their clubs to be like Toronto.

Toronto has a unique party atmosphere and that should be shown within the clubs. Just like montreal has a very unique party atmosphere....whenever I'm in Montreal I can tell I'm in montreal and not Toronto because of the atmosphere that is in the club....it is a completely different type of party...not any better and not any worse just different.

EDIT: I'm not saying anything bad about Sonic here people. I think Sonic will go far in helping develop a true Afterhours Club Scene in Toronto....but we put too much emphasis on trying to be something that is already there and not being Toronto. I'm not saying you shouldn't use some of the ideas that other great clubbing cities have but we need to make them work for Toronto and the Toronto clubbing scene.

the debate going on in this thread is beyond pointless.

Soooo...I guess you've never put your hand on an escalator railing, touched a door handle in a public place, put your mouth on a pop can before, sat in a taxi, handled money....gimme a break buddy, i think this is the last thing you should worry about.

Hold up now, I have to disagree with you here Scott. It's not a matter of trying to make the club feel like it belongs somewhere else. The vibe of the party comes from the people not the venue. As long as it's Toronto partiers at a club in Toronto it will have a Toronto vibe. Just because a club emulates the decore, set up, attention to detail that exists in other locations doesn't mean they are trying to change the Toronto scene.... they're just adding a new element, enriching what we already have.
