finally, review:
Loafted so much on getting there, and only got to Guv by 10:30, instead of the planned 9:30, then pulled a Pendulum-style move with the guestlist line, except I was the one jumping line to Mahan, and not the other way around. We're even now buddy, lol. Had a bit of a misfortune at the entrance, which started my night off kind of sour, but thanks to a couple of friends (you know who you are) who helped me out, everything once again started looking great.
To be truthful, I didn't notice Mark Oliver's set at all. Part of it was because I was running around meeting all my friends in every corner of KH, and maybe part of that because the set wasn't too exciting to begin with.
Armin's opening with The Wall was certainly well-received by me (and everyone else, lol), but I couldn't help but feel that whover remade it resulted in a poorer product than the original song was. All I remember from the track is the lyrics - you take away those and the track is competely bland, which makes me think the same effect could have been achieved live with The Wall acapella layered over any House track. Hence the lack of production value, imo. Anyhoo, Armin didn't impress me at all. I was there for 1 solid hour (12-1), and the only tunes I liked were Helsinki Scorchin' (which by now has been played to death) and the song right after that (can anyone ID?). The rest was just plain boring. Plus it was hotter than the Devil's asshole and packed to the tits, which didn't make me feel like dancing at all.
Then it was time for Andy C. I was there from 1:30 (damn bouncers blocking off the stairs to the drink and making me miss precious minutes of Andy, grrrr) till 3:30am, and that period of the night for me was hands down the best timeframe of the night. Was it hot - it made KH seem like a fridge. Was it packed - hells yeah. Did it matter - not in the least. Andy threw down a MONSTER of a set and he had that room going off like there's no tomorrow. The vibe in The Drink BY FAR outdid the vibe I've experienced in any other rooms. The crowd itself was actually outdoing the MC in hyping everybody up. That's how off the wall it was. The music was top-notch as well. God how I love his hard, driving basslines. Airplane and the Pendulum tracks that he dropped definitely stood out, but there were soo many tunes that I loved that I (nor anybody around me) could ID. (BTW, DESIDEL and EZEKIEL why the fuck haven't I met you two yet?) Speaking of which, the crowd in the drink was suprisingly friendly. I chatted with at least 4 people around me who I didn't know at all completely out of the blue, and within like minutes it felt like I knew them for years. As I said, fucking awesome vibe, and that was what made Andy's set so particularly memorable.
When Andy C finally finished, I HAD to go down to Gallery because I was afraid if I didn't, I was going to die from either the heat or exhaustion. Gallery was fuking awesome for Breaks. Practically empty, cool, no traffic, and the dark atmoshere set a perfect mood for Atomic Hooligan. Too bad I was dead or I would have danced my ass off. Instead, I had a great time chilling with the regular Breaks crew on TA. After a bit of rest, I decided to get back in the KH and see if things improved in there.
In short, Ferry did not blow me away. Far from it actually. It seemed like he'll play a good track, a couple of shitty tracks, then another good track, and so on. I remember I walked in right on FB - Who's Knocking (feat. Edun) (Ferry remix) which was an awesome way to start off his set, but as I said, he lacked consistency to really get me going non-stop. He played a lot of his popular tunes, which was good, but at the same time it was expected of him to play them, which kind of dampened their effect. Nevertheless, even though I was shit tired, me and Clara took off as soon as I heard the first notes of Punk. I still <3 that track the most. Ok, System F. - Exhale is a close second. Other Ferry tracks I remember hearing are Right Of Way, Galaxia, Cubicated, I Love You, and some others that are slipping my mind now. BTW, what was with Ferry having a Breaks portion in his set? It started with Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night, and he followed that up with a few more nice Breaks tracks. Totally hit me by surprise, and what a good surprise it was! I left just after 8.
In the grand scheme of things, except for Andy C, LOL '06, musically did not impress me at all. The Trance I heard was more or less meh. Musically-wise, LOL '05 blew LOL '06 out of the water. Just remembering the sets that Schulz, B&J, and Armin had makes my skin tingle. Can't say the same about any of the trance sets this time around. What did make my night just as awesome as last year, was in a nutshell, the people I was with. Everywhere I went there were either highschool friends, university friends, coworkers (well, ok, just one of those), and TAs. I don't mind being alone when the music's awesome, but when it's not, who you're with can make or break a night. And you guys certainly made mine. From the convos in the Drink to the chilling in The Gallery and on those couches in the Kool Haus, I was always feeling in a very positive and friendly atmosphere. If I was to try and go through all the people I met, talked to, and everything in between, it'd be a long list, and I'm sure I'd still miss some of you. So I won't. The people who I had a great time being with and meeting know who they are.
P.S. I love how everybody judges Benassi based on the one hit (Satisfaction) song he produced. Hypnotica, although had a very set Benassi-style sound throughout the album, was actually packed with good songs. His Phobia album was weaker, and hence never found its way on the charts, but 'Rocket in the Sky' and 'Blackbird' are awesome songs and stood out a lot from the rest. And then there's the Benny Benassi remix of Fischerspooner's 'Never Win', which is absolutely mint.
P.P.S. There's a bunch of comments in the review thread that I want to reply to - I'll leave that for another monster post of mine.
P.P.P.S. Pics and vids coming soon.
Overall amazing night... kinda wasn't in the mood for it at the start of the night, but once the tunes came... god damn, it was too much fun.
Luke Fair: stuck around for about 45min of this set, and holy shit was it boring... at first i thought he'd build it up, but it just kept drooning on, so I left and took a little tour of Guv. Complex and check out all the rooms.
DJ Hype: Holy shit... I was actually not intending to stay for his set bc some of the recorded sets i've heard from him hadn't impressed me... but when I was passing through drink from skybar to go to KH for Armin, he was killing it! So i had to stick around for a while, and the energy in that room was insane, everyone was into it. I love it when everyones jammin and having a good time with the music.
Armin: Showed up for only 60min due to DJ Hype, and he was doing a pretty good job. I have stopped listening to a lot of his sets lately bc he plays the same stuff on a weekly basis, so since I hadn't heard him for a while, there were a lot of massive tunes I hadn't heard yet. (I'll have to DL some ASOT soon
)
ANDY C: I bow down to this super power... Andy C's set was the only set of the night which i was present for from start to finish. But god damn, high energy the whole way through, holy fuck. There was more bass pumpin out of the Drink during his set than the entire complex combined. And he was totally into the set, jumpin around, pumpin the crowd... Andy C NEVER dissappoints... his set was definitely the highlight of my night.
Atomic Hooligan: Unfortunately I only caught the last 45min of their/his set.. but I wish I had been around for longer, but I just couldnt leave in the middle of Andy C. Dropped a lot of massive tunes, including Chem. Bros. - Block Rockin Beat!
John Digweed: Stayed for only about 30-45min... pretty good. he was pumpin out some sick progressive tunes, but god damn... no head bobbing, no hand clapping/pumping, no expression on his face, nothing. It looked like he was contemplating suicide up there lol
Ferry Corsten: Got there around 6-6:30am, and i was totally not feeling it... at that late in the night i needed to hear some pumpin trance, not progressive dreamy poppy trance. so I went and sat down till around 7am till i was about to leave since I was tired and not feelin it. Then he dropped Punk, so I thought I'd dance to Punk then head out... after Punk came Direct Dizko and the next thing I know its 10am and im there for at the front for the end of his set.
He totally picked it up at 7am... this is the second time that Direct Dizko has kept me at a party and has turned it around to a delightful end. Love that tune.
Of course, it was great seeing all the TAs again; always a pleasure partying with you guys.
Armin: GOOD.. was hoping to hear "Louder", and it was the 2nd or 3rd track.
Junkie XL: "take the blue pill... take the red pill". that's all that needs to be said
Ferry: gotta love this guy!! unstoppable... but there was this one part towards the end when he was dropping all the goodies with the crowd going crazy, and for some reason, he decided to drop some wacko track, and there was absolutely no reaction from the crowd. He knew he faked up... i felt sorry, shitty sich!!!
should've dropped "solstice"!!!
or kyoto as it was suggested before. but then again these are never dropped.
Overall, not sure if it's just me or it's due to the "party enhancers"
but last night was amazing. met some great new people.

All my friends were in the kool house but i jus couldnt leave that mainroom it was perfect... At one point some women was saying that digweed needs to play harder... Not even he was absolutly amazing..... Finally decided to check out the kool house at 5 am, and i jus couldnt get into Trance after such a sick time in the mainroom... Ferry wasnt very good in the begining, but after i thnk 8:30 - 10 am WOW he was dropping amazing trance classics with massive breakdowns... i was way overdue and needed rest but ferry jus kept me there in suspence waiting to see wat tune will be NExt... John Digweed!
John Digweed was amazing. Best set of the night all the way. Armin kinda dissapointed with his track selection. I've heard better ASOTs.
What a night it was...you know how you get a chance to reflect on things as more time passes by? Well as I think more and more about it, I realize how memorable LOL 2006 was for me...amazing time ppl

Ok...i just came back to DC and wow...i'm speechless. This was my second labour of love and I owuld have to say it was so much better than last year's. Armin's set was money. Digweed's was good. Ferry was good although it seems like whenever he plays a lenghty set, he plays the same shit over and over. Great meeting a lot of TOTA's and hangin with the NYTA crew. More to come later after I get some much needed sleep.
Holy Fack what a night!!
Been a while since I have been to the Guv(or to any party).. and what a return it was.
Spent the entire night in the K/H since I will never understand how anyone could actaully stand being the in Guv Main Room. Its always rammed full at an all access event and more hotter then a gym locker room.
Great seeing all the TA's and dancing my ass off with all of you once again.
Also nice meeting and partying with the polish TA community. You ladies rock!
Till the next big event I guess.

Got to the club around 11:30, where I was given a reduced pass instead of a comp. Having arrived with only $35 in my pocket, this was a problem. John Tang was in constant contact w/me via text messaging, & Patricia had gone inside in search of a loan for me, since all cash machines were out of service (WTF?!?!) and I didn't have my bank card w/me anyways. Luckily Talal spotted me outside and asked if I was ok, and I said no, and he just waived me in. Thanks so much Talal! Got into a super-crowded & humid KH. Hung out on the couches w/folks til I was ready to mobilize, I was still pretty wiped out from the BBQ.
I thought Armin played a good set. THE WORST place to be is behind the DJ booth when Armin was leaving- holy rush of people! Literally had to climb and claw my way out of there. That's when I met mazzin finally, and we went off to check out Digweed, but detoured into the tent for a while. Turns out this guy Boyz Noise was on and he was rippin shit up!!!!! Dropped "Beat It" mixed w/ "Vogue"
So good! Finally made our way into the Guv, hung out in the Acid Lounge on the couches. Music wasn't really grabbing me, made our way back to the KH for Ferry, who was 25 mins into his set. Nice to see Ferry's friend (?) Brian there with him again- met him w/Ferry once about 5 yrs ago in the Guv, he's such a sweetie. If Ferry really played "Leaving London", I'm so pissed. Musta been the time I went over to the Guv patio to hang out and catch some Benny Benassi.
Went back for more Ferry, he was seriously on fire, but left at 9:30am.
My body is still so 'off' today, I wish I could go home and just sleep. Had a rude awakening this morning when I went to my car and found that someone had been in it and stole my Sirius satellite radio. Dumbass ripped out the antennae & I've blocked service on it so its useless to them.

Hey Nat, great to see you as always!!!! And congrads again!
