haha, you ps3 owners have to pay to get your systems fixed? man that sucks.

sounds like it's a defective laser maybe? if you're able to switch from channel to channel then i bet it's probably something like that, or could be just a bum video chip....

what did you get fixed originally?

Posted by spc on Jun-17-2008 21:24:

update: I went to the local gamestop a half hour ago and they let me exchange mgs4 cds without a problem since they don't even have a ps3 there to test out my copy. I reinstalled MGS4 again and tried the new disc... same exact fucking problem. I am sick and fucking tired of this bullshit I have to go through with Sony. I'm going to call them in a few and demand they fix my ps3 (again), and perhaps get it right the 2nd fucking time around.

Yea, unfortunately ps3 comes with a 1-year warranty which is shit compared to 360's 3-year warranty. They never stated exactly what they fixed when I received my (supposedly) fixed ps3... I assumed it was either the power supply or the motherboard because my system would not turn on at all (the red light on the ps3 would not even come on when it's powered off).

Posted by BTG on Jun-17-2008 22:22:

ouch man, $150 for a power supply swap.

that's weak.

Posted by spc on Jun-19-2008 02:35:

apparently mgs4 works fine when i disable my internet connection. my console is retarded.

Posted by BTG on Jun-19-2008 03:52:

that's beyond my knowledge because EB doesn't believe in testing internet :|

Now that's fucked up. That doesn't even make sense.

If I remember correctly some people had to do that with GTA4. I don't think it was a bug with the console though - it was a network+software problem.

I see. Definitely something strange nonetheless.

Just bought the 80 gig MGS4 bundle pack. Finally a game worth owning the console for.

Apparently not. A number of people say that after playing the game for a total of 35 hours, they're pretty much done with it and regret purchasing the PS3 simply for that.

Hopefully this won't be the same with you.

Said it a million times over...the PS3 is an excellent Blu-Ray player!!!

I think thats downright shallow for people to think that. Surely there is something else on the PS3 that is either already available or soon to come that will make the machine a more worthy purchase.

Not that this is aimed at you of course , I just think the PS3 has plenty going for it beyond the ridiculous 2 and half year MGS4 hype that has now come and gone.

I think I'll be okay. No need to pray for me, lol.

I downloaded the demo from the PS Store and enjoyed. I'll definitely give it a whirl from Gamefly.

Right now I seem to stuck in cycle of Warhawk, GRID, Bad Company, and RSV2.

Bad Company worth it?

hahahaha. welcome to the world of complicated technology my megadrive never had a problem in its entire lifespan. my various PCs have had innumerable. nice to have you aboard

edit: oh, and wipeout? really? those abstract racing games have never appealed much to me. the physics just dont excite me.

Posted by Capitalizt on Jul-07-2008 13:58:

PK, haven't you played Wipeout XL on the PS1? If not, zomg go get it now! It's one of the best racers of all time. Once you play it, you'll understand..

As for Wipeout HD, this damn thing is probably gonna make me buy a PS3. 60FPS + 1080P + wild tracks + good music =

Posted by Moongoose on Jul-07-2008 19:59:

I never could get into a racing game where the vehicles were not on solid ground (or at least water...ah wave race 64 my love, the many hours we spent together ). So wipeout didn't excite me at the least.

Also in completely unrelated news, but for some reason i feel i need to share it, i have a brand new lcd tv sitting right here next to me for oh about three weeks now. Its still in the box as i dont have anything to hook it up to. The only thing worth watching on tv is discovery channel and cartoon network, i dont have any new consoles around and i cant find any of the old ones. I need to at least hook it up to my pc to watch some HD video on it or something.

I enjoy it. The multiplayer is a lot of fun. Its pretty faced paced and you can use a variety of vehicles. I've read it described as Warhawk meets COD4 and that makes sense to me.

Whether it is worth it or not is up to you. I use Gamefly so I technically still have it on rent - although I intend to click on "keep it" as soon as something else comes out I want to rent (Civilization). Of course I said the same thing about COD4 and ended up sending it back to get Bad Company. heh.

Btw, I am really happy with Gamefly. I used to get really frustrated with them and just about told them to go pound sand - but then they actually showed some good customer service and opened a closer distribution point. Since then I have been really happy and try to buy most of my games through them (unless I absolutely can't wait - GTAIV). If you get a game from them the day it comes out it ends up being atleast $10 cheaper than retail (even more if you have been a member for a while). I've never seen a used game cheaper at Gamestop unless the game is total crap and they have 20 of them. If anyone wants to try it out hit me up with your email address and I can get you a free trial. Or you can just go to their website yourself and probably get the free trial - I just won't get a coupon from them for that - hehe.

I've been doing some research on the internet and have found several people claiming to have updated their PS3 hard drives with larger drives found in laptops. Having done some laptop hard drive swaps in the past it should be a straight forward and easy job for anyone looking for a 200GB PS3...

I use an LCD TV as my main PC monitor...32 inches. Is your desk big enough? If so, give it a shot...You'll love it.
