he's done nothing wrong. One MVP year, and two above average years. The expectations were way too high. I have a bad feeling that his early season success is going to back fire. Right now he is acting like the best player to ever play the game, hitting game winning hrs like its his job. When he goes to being normal A-Rod, which is still way above the rest, i think many of the dumb ass yankees fans will go back to being ridiculous and booing him.

I agree. We'll see how the season turns out for him but I won't surprised when Yankees fans get on his ass again once he comes back down to earth. He's got off to a hot start and playing like an MVP thus far.

This is the kind of attitude that gets people in trouble. I LOVE the Red Sox , but I am a knowledgeable enough fan to know that one does not underestimate the Yankees. I also think that its awfully early to count any pitcher healthy or unhealthy for the season.
As for wondering why Yankee fans are happy; who wouldn't be happy their highly paid hitter is showing signs of clutch hitting ability. (Ortiz wrote the book, A-rod finally read it)
I also think criticizing someone's grammar as a first point a discussion on a message board is foolish. People tend to write as they speak here. In my husband's case a mix of London and Brooklyn.
I'm looking forward to this weekend's series, even if it does mean I have to put line across the center of the couch!

The trouble with Red Sox fans is that they spend too much time worrying about what the Yankees are doing...I bet every single Sox fan wishes that they were born 200 miles further south...

As for fairweather fan,,i got my Yankees tattoo at the end of 04...

yeah...no problem, it was nice to read.

but anyway...i just watched the encore. Man, was that an amazing 9th inning. I was truly happy when i saw how elated A-Rod was after that blast. He's been getting way too much shit for way too long, he deserves to have a good time. For years I've been defending him against the mindless complaints of all my friends who call themselves yankees fans.

I just hope he doesn't opt out of his contract at the end of the season. And that is said knowing he is going to have some down stretches this season. He's definitely going to break the all time HR record, which will probably be held by Bonds. I'd like to see that in NY and get to root for him when it occurs.

I could never really figure out why people could boo him the way they do..As you said before,,MVP one year and then two average seasons..However A Rods average seasons are far better than most peoples good seasons...People quote stats about his poor post season play ""AT LEAST WE FUCKING MAKE THE POST SEASON"...

yeah, i totally agree. How do you judge someone's entire yankees career based on less than twenty games played? In any event, i felt really good for the guy. If fans start booing him again i will be ashamed to consider myself in the same group with them.

seriously, I won't even begin to point out the number of grammatical errors in this post.

When will you realize that strictly OFFENSE will not win you a championship. The Yankees have had majority of the guys in that line-up for the past 3 years and it really hasn't helped them reach the ultimate goal. I understand you're a die-hard Yankees fan but it doesn't take a genius to realize that your staff is decent at best. With all the injuries and question marks, it's almost naive to think your offense will bail you out each time. Any real knowledgeable baseball fan knows this.

Now how about you put some thought into your next post and let's have a real debate...not your typical "YANKEES HAVE WON 26 CHAMPIONSHIPS, REDSOX SUCK" argument and have a little insight.

i totally missed this post....but since boston boy wants to get smart with people, here are a few little comments.

Sure the yankees have a shaky staff, but are you willing to admit your staff is pretty questionable??

How long do you think it will take for beckets 1.50 era to inflate back to reality? lets say in the 5.01 range where he landed last year. I am certain he will get shelled by the yankees on saturday.

How about Wakefield, who has a career 4.something era? His era will surely expand. Didn't he have an injury riddled season last year??

Julien Tavarez. I don't even have to say anything about this guy.

Curt shilling. How old is he?? 40. While schil was the man in the season you guys won, he's not the same pitcher, and he certainly isn't roger clemens. Seriously, this guy is due for a precipitous decline. It defies logic for him to improve or stay the same given he is greying and that he had that horrible injury. I'd be surprised if he is sub 4.00.

Lastly, 'Dice-K'. I don't really know what to think, and neither should you. While he lost his last two games, he didn't get any run support. Sure he had great numbers in Japan, but japan isn't america. I think he'll be good, but not 100 million good. I think you'll be unpleasantly surprised after the game on sunday.

I shouldn't even need to talk about how the yankees offense is ridiculously better than the red sox offense. How many guys are batting over .300?? Sure manny and ortiz will light it up eventually, but that still leaves 5 soft spots in the lineup. You can't even argue with that. Lugo, Pedroia, Crisp, Varitek, and Youk aren't exactly scary batters. And if you decide to argue that, take into account that i didn't consider lowell a soft spot. Post that against the yankees lineup where there are 3 soft spots (1b, C, LF). When matsui gets back your looking at 2 soft spots (1b and C). And posada is a quality player, im just putting him in there to give you the benefit of the doubt in case you want to argue about varitek or youk.

The Yankees are off to a very good start. The rest of the team will catch up. This season will be good, you'll see...

the funny thing about the mets is that yankees fans don't hate the mets nearly as much as mets fans hate the yankees. you're a jealous bunch.

btw...wright's 25 (i think) game hitting streak isn't getting nearly enough attention. I wonder when the media will pick up on his streak.

i think mets fans who chant "yankees suck" are idiots.

i was at the mets game last thursday and out of nowhere in the middle of the 7th inning, a 'yankees suck' chant started. I wasn't sure where the hell it came from because the yankees weren't even playing so there was no score on the board. I can kinda understand the boston sucks chant at yankees games, but only if a boston score is updated and they are losing. Otherwise i think its ridiculous.

ditto, for the sillies game. bored fans heh. i've seen a lot of shit already in 3 games at shea, not all of it pretty.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Apr-20-2007 18:50:

I usually just chalk that up to the only reason people have to hate the yankees (or chant that for that matter) is because they are such a prominent team thats always in the papers and always making headlines. So be it that all eyes on yankees is the general consensus, some of that just fuels more of the reason to show hatred toward'em.

It's like being in first place, everyone is gunning for you thus most will do anything to bring you down. It's part of being at the top, so take it and roll lol...

Then we get those who try to take the 'i'm smarter then you mr yankee fan i know more about baseball' approach and try to argue points (SAL!) about why this why that...yankee life is all yankee life, that's how i see it. I'm not out to debate points about players or stats, I'm out to see my boys putting numbers up and chalking marks in the W column that's what i pay my season tix for...

and i say this because the other yankee fans on the board for the most part actually engage in interesting baseball conversation.

Posted by EarnYourKeep on Apr-20-2007 19:27:

im not like every other yankee fan, i wish to not engage in conversation i wish to just root for my team and not care about any other teams...am i not allowed that? does that discredit me in any way? lol i dont hold that over your head mr burton lover...a snicker comment here n there but that doesn't mean i think you dont know anything about snowboarding =P

the funny thing is that most people like baseball because of the things you don't like.

SHUSH you are blowing up my spot, i'm just trying to give sally a hard time with this 'debate' or aka conversation about baseball lol

i played it for too many years of my life, i don't like talking about the game and stats and players anymore, its too much of an argument each and every time so i say, ah forget debating and making points, just root for your team and have fun...

I don't care about wright's streak because it's being over shadowed by ARod's thunder stick atm...but to tell you the truth, I knew about it a few games ago but didn't care to pay attention to whether he kept it moving or not...i just watch my yankees and i'm happy about that...

can we let a nigga be happy about his team and not take anything away from it....

go make a mets and boston thread for me to run in and have a 'debate' but no more debating for me in a yankees thread...

swinging the bats tonight boys....lets do this
