Manchester United have described latest reports claiming that a move by Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid is imminent as 'utter nonsense' and insisted that the Portuguese winger is not for sale.

Ronaldo is expected to undergo surgery on an ankle early next week after he was seen by a specialist today and may miss the start of the new season.

United, meanwhile, have been infuriated by a report today claiming that the 23-year-old will sign for Real within a matter of days.

A club spokesman said: 'It is utter nonsense and totally laughable. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale.'

Apart from the effect on the team's playing style and formation, it would also send a signal that United are in some way a lesser team than Real. The Glazer family bought United because they viewed it as the biggest club in the world so they cannot afford to been seen as weaker than Real Madrid, one of their biggest European rivals, or in thrall to their star player.

so because a team buys a player from another team the selling team is considered the lesser team? if you look at it from beckham's point of view then real madrid would be a bigger club. then he left there to go to the galaxy so the galaxy are the ultimate club.

Especially when there's a lot of talented coaches that could take his place, particularly former players (e.g. Deschamps or Blanc). I read the FFF gave him until the end of the year to prove himself, but I have no idea what that means. He squad selection was horrendous, so an extra six months isn't going to fix that in my opinion. I thought him proposing to his gf after the loss to Italy as a sure sign that he knew he was getting the boot and wanted to deflect media attention.

/minirant

P.S. SCREW YOU DOMENECH!

And I'm still trying to understand the point behind this whole Ronaldo debate. Every controversial comment I've seen was purely based on speculation by the media, so I'm not even going to bother paying attention until the he himself comes out and gives the final word on his plans.

Real Madrid is good. So is Manchester United. One is better using one set of criteria (long history, number of European Cups won, etc.), the other is better using another set (recent history, ownership of the best player in the world, etc.). Not a big deal.

I'm hearing rumours that metzelder could be coming to celtic on a loan deal for the season.

Would like that to be true but I can't see it.

looks like the fat one isn't going to be reunited with the special one after all

you will be happy haha i didn't listen/read anything about this, but Metzelder it's necesary for Real Madrid because Cannavaro is injured and Heinze could go to Olympic Games. Only Pepe, Ramos and Metzelder will be avaible to play on this position.

Van der Vaart goes to Real Madrid

I hope it's true. La Liga needs to keep attracting classy players like him, and try to hold on to some of its own as well. Rumours are the Espanyol's Luis Garcia is heading to Tottenham. One of the most underrated strikers of the past couple of years; hopefully he can follow Torres and make an impact in England at least.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.

Arsenal seal Nasri capture

fowler to blackburn???

Posted by Ian on Jul-11-2008 13:32:

Danny Guthrie of liverpool is on his way to newcastle united for talks over a move. He spent last season at Bolton & was pretty good for us in a bad team. Maybe physically not big enough yet for the central midfield role i think will be his best position but he gave us a good season & would be good for the toon.

Gudjohnsen rejects Aston Villa, wanting to play for a club in either the manchester or london areas (where he's lived before in his spells at Bolton and Chelsea)

Posted by Ian on Jul-11-2008 13:34:

Bernard Mendy (PSG) moves to Hull City on a free. He played for us at bolton for a year in 2002-3 as a very raw 20 year old & didn't do bad considering that.

Darren Huckerby to San Jose (MLS) from Norwich City

Peter Crouch signed at Portsmouth, 11m pounds..

Didn't saw if someone mentioned it, but Andrea Dossena also sigend at Liverpool from Udinese...

Steve Sidwell agreed terms with Aston Villa

Mancini signed at Inter for 13m euro. After this transfer Quaresma's move to Inter is in doubt...

Luis Garcia, Espanyol striker signed with Tottenham for 12m euro...

P.S.G. want Dudo Aouate from Deportivo

Inter wants quaresma? He was good but not great and i think his time as a good striker has passed..... Just my opinion. We will see how he does this season coming up.
