They don't use them anymore because of insurance / bumper / pedestrian safety wank issues that dictate the design of the fronts of cars now.

They are a classic look, and one I love (though no disrespect to your different tastes, not all examples look good I will admit).

For me, it's a "purity of form" thing, but it's what I like. I love old BMW's where the lights just hang in the grille. I love 1st gen VW GTi's with the 4 lamp grille. Lancia Delta HF Integrale and almost everything cool and sporty that came from Japan pre-1985.

I don't really like too many of the new cars on the road now, though after moving to Europe I do appreciate the little hot-hatches that are available from Renault and Peugeot.

If I ever own another car, it will be a toy, and an affordable classic. Probably with round lights lol

Ok I should clarify, I was meaning on modern cars. I love it on a lot of classic and modern classic cars. The Datsun 510, E36 M3, Original 2002, among others, look fucking sick with their lights.

Lots of subtle mods on that car too. The headlights alone are $1700 ( euro spec HID). You really have to take your time to see the details.

yea i really appreciate it when a owner, mods the car in a clean style nothing to freaking exuberant, but still will make you go "wow" when u look at it.

If you arent familiar with these cars you wouldnt notice the stubby euro mirror, shaved side mouldings, R32 skirts/front bumper, lengthened hood, deleted side markers, gold dipped Audi TT antenna. Thats just from the one pic.

Is that the R32 lip also? It looks like it. I mean he has the bumper, so why not get the lip too.

R32s didnt come with a front lip.

Thats a Seat Cupra R front lip (spanish VW)

Its not a common addition (the lip) There are a few similar bumpers that can look like stock.

Im really not sure how strong it is. Safe to assume its a 1.8T (could be a VR6) I dont frequent the MK4 VW forums ( due to lameness) anymore. Im sure hes there somewhere. When these cars are setup like this, these arent always a fast car. Its more of a cruising set up...it may be wicked quick but I really dont know.
