can we maybe petition this?

Posted by DiskoBiskit on Jun-07-2009 17:59:

Even if this event is re-scheduled, I dont know if I can play now. I delayed surgery to play at this event. My surgery is tomorrow... I wouldnt be recovered by next weekend anyway. grrrrr. I might be ok by the following weekend though!!!

So we all have early Halloween Cop costumes... We can surely do something with them, either for halloween or before then!

I say we wear them and walk down the Gardiner and protest against the chick who blocked our party!

Wow.....

I was in Montreal this weekend thinking about how great this party would have been. Got in today expecting to see amazing reviews and photos. To my dismay, I read this thread.....

Evil Evil Raves! Awful decadence!!! Now lets throw a nice corporate dinner party at $150 a plate and maybe an art gallery show.

That'll show those evil decadent ravers!

I guess the only crackheads allowed in toronto are those with no teeth giving handjobs for crack! LOL

nono..they're returning dough...i dunno about stores...i'm mailing my tix back tomorrow (just cos its gonna be simpler than coordinating a meet time)

it sounds like there's gonna be no don jail "rave" so might as well just get a refund and if something comes up, can just get tix again. no biggie

from an email she sent to someone at torontoist.com"

I'm assuming the "Rave" site in question was torontoraves.com. Should be noted as well that event was listed next to a Jimmy Swift Band show @ The Horseshoe tavern, a magazine launch party in Hamilton, a Radiohead concert, some concerts at The Mod Club, Revival,= and an abundance of night club and bar events... none of which are raves. The listing on the site also clearly stated the capacity was 300 people, not 350.

Also none of those involved want anything to do with raves. Though there may be some cross over in terms of music, the same can be said for virtually all top 40 nightclubs these days.

As for the address, i hardly think anyone with half a brain would walk up the current jail looking for the party. It's ridiculous to even think that.

some other points of note:

This was to be a 19+ event serving alcohol. The average age of those in attendance would have been well into their late 20s. A third of the people there probably would have been into their 30's, and mostly working professionals.

We had obtained a special occasion permit from the city in order to serve alcohol legally

The Fire Marshall had inspected the space and approved a capacity of approximately 300 people. 300 was the capacity that we advertised.

We were under the impression that the space had also been sound tested to make sure volume levels outside weren't excessive or offensive.

We purchased a $2 million liability insurance policy

We were hiring 1 bonded and licensed security guard for every 35 or so patrons. It was also offered to hire additional security for outside of the space to ensure people didn't loiter upon entering or leaving the event.

We were planning on shutting down a mere hour after most top 40 nightclubs and bars close.

so not a rave.

would have been nice if this woman hadn't jumped the gun and had at least called us to ask some questions. Someone should let her know that just because it's on the internet, doesn't make it fact. Lets hope she doesn't get her news from theonion.com

almost 10 years after iDance and it seems like nothing has changed around here.. good job Toronto

has anyone from your side managed to get in touch with Ms. Paula McColgan or Mr. Chris MacKechnie?

I'd be interested in hearing how the legal proceedings go over this whole debacle..

the old Beastie Boys adage still stands true: you gotta fight for your right to party

anyone get a "wantickets.com" refund yet?

Posted by FunkyCrew on Jun-12-2009 16:44:

question to promoters - are the ticket outlets supposed to only refund the price of the ticket ($40) not the whole amount they charged, i.e. with "service charges"? I was told that I won't be refunded the full $50 I paid for the ticket.

Play De Record and Unicus are paying the entire amount back - I haven't had a chance to speak to the outlet on Spadina but I would assume that if they want customers to ever come back to their store they would be doing the same...

OS

actually the store on Spadina told me that only $40 will be given back

thanks for the heads up about PDR and Unicus - I'm going in prepared tonight!

thanks to both Evan and Jesse for prompt replies as well

Yes I work at Remix AV on spadina and queen and my boss told me that because he is providing a "service" (whatever that is) he does not have to give back the 10$. If Unicus and play de record are giving FULL refunds back then my boss should do the same.

yeah I left you a voice mail yesterday
your boss is full of shit because he's saying that PDR is playing it "by ear" and refunding the fee based on how many tickets the person is returning - which is a load of crap
anyhow, looks like he won't be selling tickets ever again

Bahahaha, what "service" is he providing? Paying some clerk $10/hr (so about $0.17 for the minute you'll use up) to refund tickets that HE SOLD?

If they don't want to participate in the ticket reselling, then don't, but when you sell something you are responsible for refunding the money if it's recalled/defective/whatever. Refunds are not a separate service, they are part of the retail business.

he's selling the tickets himself lol

when I walked in and heard all that, I obviously got agitated, since I already made a trip there on Sunday and got told that he has not heard anything about refunds yet (another load of bs since Activate posted the letter on Thursday June 4th, saying refunds start as of June 5th)

I then called one of the promoters to speak with this guy, and he proceeded with telling them that I'm "causing a scene" in front of his customers (2 school kids taking pictures of the equipment in the store, lol) and if I asked nicely (!?) he would have given me a benefit of the doubt and would MAYBE return the full amount - I don't know how I refrained from punching his face in when I heard all that

he had a fucking nerve to tell me it's all over ONLY $5 - he obviously failed math in high school, since this was over $10, and I'm sorry - that's my daily lunch + Starbucks money!

anyhow, kudos to the promoters for trying to resolve this!
