Whoosh doesn't even apply anymore, we need something far more specific.

I know I've asked this enough times so that all hope for a coherent response is completely out of the question, but how does something like you survive out there?

ok whats this whole thing about kanye sampling.....all of fuckin hip hop is sampling. Thats the whole point of hip hop! it started with 2 turntables and a mic. thats all hip hop is. the dj and mc. the dj would take an old record with one turntable, make a sample and on the other record have a beat playing, and the mc rapped on top.
the whole point of hip hop is sampling.

That's why some of us listen to styles of music that have a never-ending wealth of new and imaginitive sounds and structures. Like trance.

trance is gay. I enjoy rock. rock has been around for decades, and there is virtually an endless supply of music that most have never heard.

actually i listen to almost everything. The reason i like hip hop is because it encompasses everything into one genre making new ideas out of old.

edit: and i Love lyricism. i dont consider kanye a lyricist but I do consider nas, em, q tip, talib, mos, common, de la, AZ etc.. all lyrcists. they know how to word play and have a certain flow that makes it all come together and make the music very exciting. I am very disappointed with hip hop as it progressess and the dumbing down of lyrics in order to sell and cater to the ignorant.

I wasn't being serious. The transmissive nature of art (music in this case) is one of the best things about it. If you listen to something solely because you think it's "original", it's probably because you just don't know any better. There's nothing new under the sun and that is not a horrible thing, so long as you give credit where credit is due.

7 basic notes and 12 sharped and flatted notes. only certain ones can go together to make it sound melodic and pleasing to the human ear.

usually there is 4 beats to a a measure and there is only so many notes you can fit in a bar. you mean to tell me without small variances here and there and different octives and changing of tempo, you dont think in human history we have yet to make every possible combination?

Posted by Vivid Boy on Sep-17-2009 02:22:

im not saying we have made every song possible or every sound, dont get me confused.

Actually, Eric, contemporary classical music is way beyond that already... just to mention one exception

well im talking about our usual dumb youthful simple popular music. from your house tracks to your rock to your hip hop to your folk song and eveyrthing in between, nothing to complicated. Basically every genre relies heavily on a catchy rift that will sink in someone's head and stay there for days playing over and over. I think, not including minor variances, have most likely hit every combination.

you broke my heart.
you maybe more knowledgeable then I am in music, i dont know. chances are very likely. I've taken some music as a child and know what I know from that. I have a basic understanding of music and can read it. Other then a love for it, that's as far as my knowledge goes. I don't know what you know or where you get your information so anything you say on the contrary I probably won't take your word for it. It's not like you're offering any insight for the rest of people in the discussion anyways.
