I try to be very respectful to all artists and find some way to appreciate the music they play. But I'm sorry, I just couldn't do it on this one. It was just plain bad. I went from the happiest day of my life to the most miserable. The drunker I got, the more painful it became. The dance floor was dead. People were trying to dance but you could see that it just wasn't working.

Maybe that was the plan. Get Pauly D to play outside, forcing everyone to move inside and dance to Armin?? Having a local DJ's mixed CD play for everyone would have been more exciting then the bullshit this guy turning out.

sorry for the rant but c'mon Palms. You guys are better then this.

Dude Markus tweeted that someone asked him to be a witness to a wedding in Vegas and he obliged. Was that you???

Great weekend in Vegas, to think that I almost didn't go...what was I thinking??!? Where else do you get Cirque du Soleil inside a nightclub along with Trance & Progressive?

Markus' set was the highlight of the whole weekend for me, just amazing. I met some people upstairs on the balcony who had never heard him before, and they were all completely stunned with how good his set was. Oakenfold was a good warmup, wish Markus could have come on earlier...lol

Sunday night with Armin was uber uber packed!!! I like a good crowd on the dance floor, to the point where a lot of my friends would say it's too crowded, but damn having sex with a hundred people around you and not knowing it...I had to leave the dance floor and go outside to chill from time to time. Wasn't too into the opening of Armin's set, he was coming off Reza and blending in some House which didn't really get my attention. Got better into the night though until Armin ended his set at 4 a.m. and Gareth seized the decks. Bangin set from him, I can never get enough of Metropolis and Exposure even though they border on being mainstream these days due to their exposure...lol

Excellent turnout by the West Coast TA's too. And for the White Party with Markus, we were ALL wearing white...how did that happen? Everyone was back on Sunday for more. Many thanks to Michelle & Greg for helping the lost find their way (including me...haha)!

I'm sure these events did extremely well and there must be some happy promoters out there! So many Armin & ASOT tshirts too, I know that the music mattered to a lot of the crowd...there were plenty of competing events but this was it! My only two complaints were that sound on the right-side kept cutting out and coming back in on Sunday, and I started smoking (second-hand, that is). The smoke was so intense at points that my eyes were stinging so bad, I didn't realize how good we have it in California now!

OMG, I felt for you, Billy, I really did. Wedding reception to Pauly D. Can you have a do-over? It was beyond awful. People were crying because they were subjected to it as they couldn't get inside. Pauly D would be perfect for torturing people in Guantanamo Bay. Lets get him booked there.

Anyways, it was great seeing all of you. I enjoyed Armin, Gareth and Markus very very much. I had all the energy I needed from them, but the best part was hanging out with my friends and meeting new ones of course. Can't wait to go back! <3 <3

Thank you so much, Blake! My friend and I have been scouring the internet to find out what it was. Fantastic!! Thoroughly enjoyed your set and can't wait to see you out in San Francisco on July 4.

When you have Jersey Shore characters, douche-bags and wannabes you have to write the signs on their level so they can finally get the point.

Kinda like the BIG red STOP signs, they make them that way so stupid people understand that they need to stop.

I wasn't going to hunt this thread down to complain, but since it popped up here on the first page I may as well take the time to echo many others and say that palms was a complete FAIL on memorial weekend.

Satrurday was a cluster fuck but I have had worst nights.

Sunday seriously was a joke of a club night. The pool party was good, but the fact the the entire left side of the sound system would fail each and every time a beat dropped in was unacceptable. Was there even a sound tech on hand all day? It was extremely annoying and continued thru the entire day until it was finally sorted out once Danny T got on around 4PM. By that time the party had thinned out.

The night party was beyond rubbish. The sound in the main room was horrible. There was no high end coming from the system making for a muffled muddy bass all night long. Not to mention that Reza reminded us all why he is the worst DJ ever. You could not go outside to escape the bad music with Steve Castro living up to his infamous train wrecking and 10 year old track selection. However Reza was dethroned by Pauly D.

I cant begin to describe how bad Pauly D is. I have seen thousands of DJs over the past decade. And I could see thousands more for another decade and not see anything near as bad as Pauly D.

The best I can do to describe it (since it cant be considered any genre) is a sound of Top 40 mashups (top 40 from the mid 90's) smashed into cookie cutter electro beats. Not only could he not beat match (he was using his laptop too), but he would simply cut a track out completely and just start up another one at a completely different BPM and of a completely different genre. I seriously sat there and watched him attempt to mix out of a latin house track mashed up with a nirvana track, into the original version of around the world by daft punk. Not to mention his las vegas updates on the mic every other track

The promoters should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such nonsense on such a crucial weekend. I didnt have high hopes for the weekend musically, and just wanted to hang out with all of my friends. But that was just beyond bad. And to hear Pauly D is getting something like 30K for a gig is just unbelievable.

Hey Josh...

Can you show us something that you have done in the past or have planned for the future that is better so that for my future endeavors I can ensure that we make sure people like you are comepletely happy.

Its funny how people just hate and have nothing good to say when there were actually thousands of others that had a great time and say it was one of the best weekends ever.

You know when people are hating you are doing something right...

Posted by Nerologic on Jun-15-2010 07:00:

^^^

But is anything he saying a lie?

Nope.

So is it hating?

I don't think so...

I think a lot of people had a great time overall. This is just venting. People need to get it out of there systems. I'm not one to bash an event, but I did feel the need to express my opinions on Pauly D. Hell, I was hoping that someone would pop in demo CD instead.

Some of us know the effort that you put in to the event, much respect to you for that. But these are just opinions from the customers side of things. If you really wanna see haters, look at the EDC thread.

Im not hating on the event. I am in vegas at least 3-4 times per year, and go to rain just about every time. Its my favorite club in vegas. The event was promoted very well, and I understand the vegas scene is difficult and unique. I understand you want to come on here and defend your event, but we both know that Reza brings the Love Festival brand thus he gets to choose who is playing. I understand the politics. You are up against it if you want to try and defend the horrible music of sunday night.

However, how does such a top notch event allow the sound to cut out of a $100 pool party all day long? Everything else about that pool party was set to make for an epic day. The music was good, crowd was great, but the sound cutting out for 5 hrs straight is unacceptable.

And why was there no high end sound inside the club sunday until about 430am? It sounded fine on saturday night....

Sunday night I think was REZA's fault. He is so bad. If you just listen to people walking around the club you would hear how amazed they were at how bad he was. And I am sure he had a hand in booking Steve Castro outside.

The Pauly D situation is beyond me. I am not sure what would inspire a promoter to pay him to show up. I knew he would be bad, but i figured maybe he was worth the $$$ as he would have a big guido crowd supporting him or something. But there was not a big crowd out there that was into him. His music was so unprofessional. I understand a difference in music selection, but no matter how bad your choice in tracks is, on a stage at such a large event you should at least be able to mix 1 out every 4 or 5 tracks. He was wrecking nearly ever single mix.

I havent attempted an event as big as this one, primarily because I don't possess the resources to do so. I assure you that If I did have the resources to pull it off, that I would most definitely provide my patrons with much higher quality of music for $100. And I would rid of the cheesy mushroom design. You spent all the $$$ for Armin, which is legit. Of course Jordan Stevens played well as he always does. I think its just the politics that you gave into that forced the bookings of Reza, Castro, and Pauly D...which ruined the night really.

Past-
Carl Cox last year at the pool was more than enough. Last years weekend was epic. This year one of the best DJ's all time was replaced by Pauly D.

Future-
I will be back at rain no doubt, Id like to be back for a party at the palms pool this summer. However I think that booking trance acts for pool parties is not the best idea. Of course this is just my opinion. I think they are somewhat out of their element and for the $$$ you can get DJ's that are much more inclined to rock a pool party during the day. I still like some trance, but not during the day at a las vegas pool party.

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jun-15-2010 17:44:

We're all pretty big supporters of Rain, the events you put on and DJ's you book. Its just a simple observation and opinion. I don't think anyone was trying to "hate".

A simple "I'm sorry you had a bad experience, I hope the next one is better for you" is a better response. In the end, most of us WILL be back... that is unless, you book Pauly D again

edit* bored at work.

I am not even going into the details as I refuse to share the reaosns why I do things but I can assure you everyhting had a reason. I can aslo assure you that half of the things you have speculated are completley wrong.

Lastly I will say that thigns do go wrong, we are not perfect in any way, we put a massive amount of effrot into this weekend/ everything we do and anyone that wants to hate can go right ahead with foinally stating that until you have shown me that you can do something better I will politely pull out a chair and ask you to be seated.

Thanks...
