How come you chose the samsung? screen, or is it a bit faster?? I think it's the samsung OS they added over android, sense seems a lot nicer all personal opinion though |

| Originally posted by gehzumteufel Sense is all a bunch of easy shit anyway. There is a guy that made a copy of it so that you can have it without having to get an HTC branded device. It is an app in the market called Beautiful Widgets. As for the interface overlay, I will dump it anyway. In fact, I will dump the whole rom. Going to load a CyanogenMod rom on it. So no worries there. Reason for the Samsung, as opposed to say, the Desire, is that the Desire isn't available on my carrier and I refuse to switch. Not because of phone availability, but I have an expensive enough bill as it is. US$90 is enough. If I move to any other carrier, I will get shafted. ps: My plan is unlimited everything. Voice, sms/mms and data. |
Egos, check this. It convinced me to choose a Galaxy S over the Desire.
^Samsung definitely has the advantage, making most of the insides hey! They make ram, the amoleds that were in the HTCs as well until recently, AND the processors!? :O
the specs look great
but yeah I'm not going the desire, i'm waiting for cash to get the dell streak outright, ready for a drastic change in phone style hehe
btw: FINALLY managed to root my HTC Magic 32B, been trying since i got it, and i thought it was a perfect SPL model which would mean i'd have to make some fucking goldcard which i have no idea about, but they've got a nice simple thing happening now, and finally got it!
porting cyanogenmod onto there now to have a test
been stuck on 1.6 for wayyyyy too long!
looks like the streak is finally getting 2.1 too if anyone else cares, which is most likely why the held off the release in the US: I think they've been tryna get 2.2 to make everyone happy since they launched it in the UK on 1.6, but they'll probly just do 2.1 for now, then when they manage to get 2.2 happening upgrade...

I just do a few calls here and there, listen to spotify (mostly I just offline sync it as well), surf some, check facebook, chat some on irc, perhaps sometimes some video streaming from the swedish TV networks. I don't need more. |

| Originally posted by EgosXII ahhh carrier, fair enough then I know it's all modable these days, was wondering if the galaxy had anything exceptional though, since i think the desire looks better, though again, entirely personal preference.. they have the same guts though don't they? It is the great thing about android though: Once you get hardware you like you can just rearrange everything else Gotta love XDA |

| Originally posted by EgosXII go outright like me, and stick on your current contract bloody expensive, but gonna be so worth it!! You're lucky you can order off the site, i have to either wait for it's release in aus (probably not too far off since they seem to have sent it to every aus reviewer, and ausandroid just got one), or get a shady deal from ebay or something... I'm hoping the US release will drop the prices some, since atm it's about a 1000 from the UK a guy has already rooted it too, though who knows if/when cyanogen will get a rom ready for it (the guy who rooted it posted he was attempting to hack some roms to work on it already anyway)... the update to 2.1 should happen within a month anyway, if it's not shipped with it in the US |

So, I think the next phone I get will be the HTC Ace. Some shit was leaked about it in the last day or so, and it seems like it will be roughly the AUS equivalent of the HTC Incredible.

Ok, so I've had my Incredible for a week or so now and I'll go ahead and review it a bit for the fuck of it.
I'm giving it a 4/5.
First, the bad:
Battery life - my blackberry lasted almost two days without needing charged even after two years and heavy usage. This phone struggles to make it through the day at times. I know it's to be expected with these new-fangled contraptions with amoled screens and shit. Get a task manager because shit going on in the background will DRAIN it. Also get a car charger or backup battery.
Accelerometer - not sure if this is an issue with my phone alone or what, but the accelerometer is fucking annoyingly laggy at times. Not sure why.
the joystick - why is it there? I never use it. It's severely limited, and using it as the camera shutter button is dodgy at best.
Other than that this phone's awesome. Very snappy processor, clear screen, and everything other than a few small gripes works near perfectly. I'm able to look past all these things easily. It's far easier to type on the device than I thought it'd be (although I still miss my blackberry keyboard).

first impressions of the samsung vibrant (galaxy s)
i love this phone! battery life was supposedly a concern (according to cnet's review), i gave the phone a full overnight charge when i got it, and it's consistently lasting 2 days on one charge for me. my use is primarily text/email (both work and personal) and fb browsing (probably 3-4 times a day) with very occasional phone calls.
probably going to take me a bit to get used to all the things that this phone can do, my old phone was the samsung trace, which served me well, but as you can imagine didn't do nearly what this thing does.
i got a screen protector to make sure that i don't run into any issues with the phone and that kinda dulled the brightness and gave the phone a slight pixelated look - will possibly change this out to a different one in the future.

Well I did it finally. Posting from my Galaxy S. Still getting used to the keyboard but otherwise love it. Android ftw.
